Prior to the intro, Erlang and Wukong used to hang out and drink the night away and fight each other for fun because they are equals in combat prowess. Erlang knows 72 transformations just like Sun Wukong. Goku and Vegeta / Naruto and Sasuke are all based on this Wukong and Erlang rivalry dynamic. If you watch carefully after Destined One punched Erlang in the face, focus on his expression, he smiled. Because he knows Destined One is indeed Sun Wukong reincarnated and that his friend is finally back.
