I have a 1992 model Daytona 1000. I just came back from a 1,700 mile ride. The bike performed flawlessly and easily reached 200km/h. The engine is a jewel at all times and is a real thrill above 6,000rpm. It cruised effortlessly at 5,000rpm in 4th gear at 120km/h. There was a bit of lash at 4,000rpm in 5th at 120km/h, so she really liked to be pushed hard and not babied. 5th gear was for 130km/h and above. The handling was superb but requires a lot of rider input to make it turn. Hanging off the side of the bike GP style was the best way to make it possible to pull it into line if a mid-corner correction was needed. The rear shock was very stiff on bumpy roads. It handled rain, dirt roads, high speed touring and serious sport riding like a champion. Many of the other riders were in awe of it's good looks. Moto Guzzis are high quality bikes and the Daytona 1000 rides every bit as good as it looks.
I'm from Switzerland and I had a Daytona two-seater from 1996-2005 and made around 25000km with her. Never had a single problem! After that I was looking for a true two-seater bike, which the daytona is definitely not. So I sold it. The problem of the bike was its price, which was way above Ducati 851/888 without their performance. For a sports bike the bike was too heavy and didn't have enough power. For a cruiser the seat position was too uncomfortable. For myself, the topend power was enough but I wished to have more midrange torque. There are very, very few on the market and the prices are insane.
These Daytona’s are more of a collectible and unicorn bikes. They are super cool but so unconventional and that’s what makes them cool. I have a Ducati 888SP4 and that is also I would say temperamental in todays terms. Technology has come so far that these bikes no longer work as practical bikes but have moved into category of collectors bikes to use more for vantage meets…..

È un'opera d'arte la Daytona. Tienila è non venderla, in Italia ne sono rimaste pochissime
