Some questions & comments: 1) Will you be doing a series on strategic elements? 2) 44:55 | after dxc6, is there an open line (file) to Q? 3) (How) Is this similar to Chuzhakin's system?
I've subscribed! Love your chess.com videos and that got me to check this video out. You're very good at wording complex ideas(in my opinion) into very simplified words which make it easy to understand. It's a shame you don't have more views and subscribers because this is premium content.
Wow, I really enjoyed this video. I bought a book on Chessable similar to what you say here. 'Tune your tactics antenna' by Emmanuel Neiman and I haven't finished it yet partly because I'm a first responder and Covid-19 hasn't been kind to 2020. Very informative video, hope you continue with this series on tactics and hopefully one day you'll do a strategic series as well. Keep up the good work you're a great teacher.
Hi Elroy, it’s been a while; I hope you’ve been well. I have just done a four-part introductory series on strategy. You can find the first one here: th-cam.com/video/QoGRljI6ImI/w-d-xo.html
Great videos.(You have slight resemblance to Grischuk IMO)What I find most interesting about tactics is the way great players use their tactical vision. For example Tal and Kasparov in contrast to Karpov and Petrosian. Karpov-Spassky 1975 is a great example of this. Karpov saw blacks most active continuations and played against them before they materialized on the board! Karpov made Spassky look like a novice in that game.
I have a question. How do we know future schedule for these videos? Can you give some context to this series? Do you have a main website? Why are you making this series? Is this a video series for a beginner? Is this meant to be live training or a TH-cam series? Do you do private coaching? Are these meant for a subset of your students? Where are you headed with these videos?
I'm recording these live during my twitch streams, in between other segments. then i clip the video and export it to my youtube channel. goal is to get all my training exercises up here over time, but i can't say exactly on what schedule. they are not for any particular students, but for anyone who wants to improve.
undefended piece immovable piece hidden attack overworked piece connection w key square barely defended piece open line to valuable piece geometric arrangement of the pieces 1. play through moves of a game keep track of tactical elements as they appear and disappear
In your very first example where you took on f7 with the rook (claiming it would lead to winning a pawn), however I believe black can still save his game (and win a piece!) with g5 (with check). the endgame would be drawn because black is only left with a bishop and will lose all his pawns, but the example tactic just doesn't work. I really like the effort you put into these streams though, so don't get me wrong! Keep up the good work!
yeah! you are absolutely right! g5+ refutes the tactic and draws. that was a tactic taken from a blitz game played 10 seconds before this segment. i thought using an example that the people watching the stream had just seen in an actual game would make a stronger impression, so i decided to use it instead of the position i had prepared. but alas, the tactics we find "brilliant" when we have 10 seconds v 10 seconds on the clock don't tend to hold up. hehe.
How many of these tactics videos are there? Is there a way to access them on you-tube? I see tactics 1 & 2, and tactical elements Bonus video. Are there others?
i doubt a barley defeted piece is a piece that is threatened by two pieces and defended by two pieces in my mind a barely defend is a piece that is threatened by two pieces or one and it is defend by a single piece
But though you doubt it, that is what a barely defended piece is. It's my own system and my own nomenclature, so that's just how it is. The situation you describe where a piece is threatened by two and defended by one would be called either an insufficiently defended piece or a hanging piece.
@@chesscomdpruess sure i didn't mean to be rude or anything by the way it is weird that you said that is what a what a defened piece is and its your system and said so that is what it is, it could be thought of as you meaning as a result it is what you say which makes no sense to why a defended piece is only what you say because of it being your system
Best tactics lesson i ever saw! Thanks David!
you're welcome :)

Hi! Thanks for the kind comment. If a first responder asks, I should deliver. I'll make some more videos for you.

there will be a 3 and 4, but you've found all the ones i've published so far.
Looking forward to them. Glad I found your channel.
maybe its better to say that not all pins are good....you need to have the tactical advantage from an overworked pinned piece in order to exploit it
I think you've drawn a correct conclusion that not all pins are good.
great insight!
David, What chess software you use to do lessons like this?
Chess.com (just in a web browser) live chess server.
Great lesson!
thanks :)
Brilliant!
Great video!
thanks :)
