    If anyone is having issues getting the wireless set up, connect the printer via USB to a laptop or PC and follow the CD software setup and it will prompt you through getting it in the network and to the point where you won't need the USB cable once finished.

    The printer was a bit complicated to hook up th-cam.com/users/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 but it does the job very efficiently. I like the ink wells versus the ink cartages that cost an arm and a leg. It prints quickly and the quality is excellent. It shuts off when not in use, so you have to remember to turn it on. Overall, it exceeds my expectations. I'll update my review in a couple of months.

      CanonUSA still have question. What is a paraphrase?... I've tried several suggested ways. Also how to get numbers on keyboard. I have wifi now wifi password on but paraphrase eludes me.

      Hi Cindi! The passphrase mentioned in our Cableless Setup is the password you have on your wireless network. This will be something either you set or it will be posted on your router.

      To connect your PIXMA MX490 without a router, go to Google Play to get the free Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app. With your printer turned on, run the app, tell it to perform the printer setup, and let the app connect to the printer directly. The app will walk you through the process from there.

    Does this printer need to be in a wireless network to print from a phone? Can I print from directly from my phone directly, with no wi-fi?

      Hi! If using a wireless router isn't an option, your PIXMA MX490 can communicate with your smartphone directly when you put the printer in access point mode. The printer's manual explains how to do this. Hope this helps!

    Please help me Canon, I connected my android LGK20 with printer but the printer only print blank papers, the document does not show. Ink and everything is working ok.

      Can't believe, Canon technical support couldn't help me resolving this issue, they sent me to my wireless phone provider ( of course they couldn't either) , I have not much understanding about how to resolve these issues but I found out that my printer needed a software update and that's what I did, problem solved by myself! Just using my mind.

      It sure can, Chris! You can follow the same steps shown in this video to get your PIXMA MX490 onto your network. You'll want to install the computer software on the CD that came with the printer, and if you're unable to use the CD, you can visit canon.us/kyg2 to download everything for free. Once you've got everything installed, your computer should be able to see the printer on your network.

    I installed the MX 490 printer with the CD and the USB cable. I also installed the Canon Print app so I could print from my tablet and phone, but it won't print. I don't understand why the option of installing the printer through the CD and setting up wireless printing all at once isn't an option?

    Attempting to reconnect my printer over a new Router. I get to the last step with my phone and the Printer throws an error "failed to connect" and does not come up on my phone. When I click the button at the bottom the MX490 is not listed on the webpage

      Hello, EBG Jex! You have reached CanonUSA and the MX886 is a model offered outside the US market. It was originally released in the Hong Kong and Indonesian markets in 2011, but has been retired from support. In the US, we had a similar model, the MX882 but it has also been retired from support, so no updates to drivers or software have been developed since 2016. Thanks for reaching out!

    I get to the point of selecting the wireless network, which my phone is already connected to, and it says printer not found. What then??

      When it tries to connect, there is a popup message saying "Canceled the process." and a message saying "You're connected to the unsecure Wi-Fi network, "Canon_ij_Setup". Do you want to disconnect? This does not make sense.

    This worked but the app is not at all the same anymore so the steps for that are no longer super valid. Only now it only prints from the App and not my computer which is the goal. Turns out I just had to restart my gateway/modem and then restart the computer. Figures.

    how to change the scan dpi, i want 300dpi, but now the result is just 72dpi

      Hi Andi. Our PIXMA MX490 ink cartridges are not refillable. We recommend using only genuine Canon inks.

    Thank you for your clearly instruction. That is my Canon MX 490 Printer. I never use it to Fax, I didn't take time to try. Now I knew beside from printing on the line, computer, or Microsoft words/note pad. I will try from my Android.

      @@CanonUSA it started printing but made strips of color, I knew something was wrong with it cause I bought if off someone. I decided to buy a brand new one at Walmart, now everything works just fine👍 I learnt not to buy used electronics of someone I don't know

      Hi! If you follow the steps shown in the video, you'll be entering your Wi-Fi password via your smartphone or tablet. The device's on-screen keyboard will let you type uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

      That's a really good question, Racheal! The Mac version of the manual for the PIXMA MX490 is 776 pages long. The Windows version is 1,004 pages long! That would make for two really thick, heavy books if we were to print them out. Instead, we included them as PDF files on the CD packaged with the printer. This saves paper, saves weight, and allows for more compact packaging.

    I so wish I had someone to call to cry to everytime I need to print since this thing just never does anything like it says it will and its so sad. Just would like information to leave the computer into the printer and print it on paper and i thought thats what printers were for. What do I know
