How can a person be the fire commissioner without any firefighting experience, knowledge or training? She has no idea of what it takes to be a firefighter or fighting out of control fires. NY politics at its best.
These three Fire Chiefs have a combined service of 35*3=105 years of competence. The budget for FDNY is $2B. None of these people sitting in this couch has ever been in a position of dispensing that sort of money over a period of 105 years. FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh who has never been a firefighter can disburse that type of funding with-out a problem. The belief that she is qualified for the position is true, but i dont understand why she targeted these three gents, maybe it's a good thing maybe it's not, the complaint will give us the basis for a correct ruling.

I find it particularly concerning that the current fire chief lacks clinical experience in the fire department and is appointing individuals to her inner circle that lack the necessary experience as well. The firefighters have made it clear that they have no issue working with a senior officer who happens to be a woman. However, in their interviews, they have pointed out that the problem lies in the fire chief's lack of experience and the lack of experience of those she is trying to appoint to key positions while discriminating against others. Based on their statements and my research, I believe this is a clear case of discrimination.
Losing these men is called ‘brain drain’……and the current FC is conducting an experiment. She is playing with lives of citizens and these professionals, and using house money.

my family has been in the fdny since the 1800's every generation and im a woman and there is no place for a woman in the fire dept.period a woman can not do what those men can do over a hundred pounds up and down on a ladder most woman can not do it!this is politics I hate this city now!!she has no place in fdny!

You CAN'T fix dead firemen or civilians. I'm sure she has no idea what a Stang Gug is, or under what circumstances it is used as opposed to a booster line. Or tell you the rate of flow coming out of a 1" 1/2 as opposed to a 3" 1/2. Older fire fighters with experience know the sounds and movements of buildings when they are on fire. They have a much better chance of pulling men out of a building before it collapses then someone that doesn't have ANY EXPERIENCE. And even they, the ones with experience have fatalities. This politically correct business has to stop. This is unbelievable. One of the biggest and highest profile fire departments in the world, and you put an unexperienced little kid to be the commissioner. Unbelievable. Did you have to give her a booster seat so she could see over the commissioner's desk?

Upstate republicans wanted to rein in Tammany Hall, so in 1865 the then volunteer city controlled fire departments (NYFD) was abolished by state act, which created the paid metropolitan fire district and department. Fifteen years later under the Tweed charter named after Tammanys boss, returned control of the fire department back to city government. That charter created the FDNY rearranging the aconym since the legally could not use NYFD again. Short Story...Political garbage.
