T. B. That’s because the judicial system is jacked up towards everyone, regardless of race; it’s like it’s based on how that person of authority is feeling that day. Fairness is based on emotions of those in authority, and not what’s right or wrong. And that in itself is not right.

I agree. Because she kept placing emphasis on if what he did was wrong then there should be consequences. She even agreed with what Amanda was saying. I understand what Amanda was saying but at the end of the day wrong is wrong and could never be noble. But the justice system is messed up because all who do wrong should be treated accordingly across the board; regardless of race, etc... On another note, I just think people need to learn to disagree respectfully. They are still on a professional forum.

Lonnie was stating that Amanda is well rounded and studied specifically about African Americans as well as her experience with being black. That is important because unfortunately often individuals dismiss what others say about their experiences with controversial topics and try to state that they are not facts unfortunately. With her her thoughts are stemmed from her education and focus on black history. That makes what she says even the more credible. It should also point out out that they should not dismiss her knowledge or at least listen. Knowledge means something. Degrees means something... dont you want your doctor to have a degree. He may not know everything but hmm he should know something with that amount of time in school. A surgeon, teacher ... shouldnt they have degrees.Facts of inequality are important especially to those who are ignorant of black history or want to deny others experience.
If Amanda doesnt leave, I feel like someone else will end up leaving soon in all honesty. Tamera isnt vibing with the group anymore either.

I agree with Jeannie. I think Amanda’s argument was valid, but it seemed like she was trying to rope in her feelings about a different subject (racism). I also found it strange that she wanted to perpetuate an issue that she was so strongly against. I didn’t see a power-struggle; just two people with differing opinions. No big deal.

Yes, the term does have a shock factor to it, until you realize the unsurmountable history of the Black experience in America that she is privy to due to her choice in a major. She’s not just speaking from an elementary school Black history month education that begins and ends with slavery. She’s packing a wealth of knowledge of Black history spanning all over the world, graduate level, where nothing in its studies is off limits and what we learn in grade school is only 2% of the discussion.
For example, she brought up the Emmett Till case, which is a stain (to say the least) in American history, where justice was never served. That same disparity in justice continues today. And suddenly Jussie Smollett’s case seems far less and less of an issue compared. Suddenly we start to understand why he did what he did (hints her use of the term “noble”). Smollett is a byproduct of America’s history and today’s society, just as Till’s experience was a byproduct of the society he lived in during his time. She sees Smollett’s actions from a different angle, and perhaps the angle that it should be studied. He is a gay black male in America, thus an individual fighting as part of two largely targeted groups. He may have went about things wrong, but his actions were intended to expose a clan of people and force them to start paying for their actions. Smollett was in all accounts simply fed up.
I think she meant is as his intentions weren’t to harm anyone and to maybe garner sympathy for himself and other gay people

Jeanie was sooo respectful and managed to lighten the mood after and be very professional. Amanda let her anger and her emotional come through too much and her point was missed. I actually very much agree with Amanda in a way but I see where Jeanie was coming from. But Amanda's attitude made it difficult for me to listen to her. She is very very smart and that is clear. I feel like Tamera is afraid to speak out of fear of being corrected by Amanda. I think Adrian handles it the best tbh. She always keeps it light without pissing anyone off. I like how educated Amanda is but sometimes I feel like she really zooms in on the race aspect, how oppressive and unjust it is, but i feel like it would be better if she came from a problem solving stance rather than the finger pointing stance because while it is good to know who is the cause after a little it becomes abrasive. sometimes problems don’t need to be zoomed in so much and sometimes they do but i feel like what she has to say is good it’s just how she says it that can turn people off from really understanding the point she is making.
I think it is important for problems to be zoomed in because they are the same issues that have not gone away for centuries. When they are not talked about people tend to began believing they don't exist until something major happens again. It will be abrasive for everyone. To the person it's being done to it triggers and the people that are uncomfortable. But until a change is made that is how things have to be.
People want black people to say things in a certain way and not zoom in on things. So basically people want to control the depth and tone of the conversation to make themselves feel comfortable.

I dont think that Jeannie was defending gay people specifically, i think she was speaking on Jessie's actions! Staging a hate crime. And i agree, he needs to be punished if that is what happened. I agree with Adrienne as well, how are they not knowing anything about if it was staged or not. Its all bs. But i was vibing with Jeannie because she is correct. He is wrong. Doesn't matter the race, or if they're straight or gay. The point was he most likely staged a hate crime. He should be convinced! Period.
He should get the same punishment as white men and women for similar crimes...a slap on the back! I agree with Amanda, this is why we are protesting, racism and unfair treatment.

Well, if that’s what the show has turned into, then it has finally become representative of the nation we live in. We may not want to talk about racism, but not doing so leaves room for it to continue to grow and fester like it is. Unfortunately, America was FOUNDED on the black and white issue, so those speeches are not going away any time soon. The more people hear about it, the more we can change things, begin the process of not having to bring up the unbearable truths surrounding it, leave things in the past. But that’s not happening today, because we’re being told not to talk about it while atrocities (far worse than what Smollett did) are still being committed daily. I was shocked she brought up the Emmett Till case. That’s a stain (to say the least) in American history, where justice was never served. That same disparity in justice continues today. Suddenly Jussie Smollett’s case seems far less and less of an issue compared. Suddenly we start to understand why he did what he did (hints her use of the term “noble”). Smollett is a byproduct of America’s history and today’s society, just as Till’s experience was a byproduct of the society he lived in during his time. Justice for Till first, then we can discuss Smollett’s case and begin to unpack the years of hurt he’s no doubt reacting to as a gay black male in America.

I love Amanda. Strong black women don't back down and seem intimidating but it's nothing on these Karen's with fake police calling and playing victim after the deed is done. Amanda is just speaking what she know to be true. Ignorance is blissful when this doesn't happen to you and that is what she is talking about. I completely agree, the girls were looking at this situation through 2 different perspectives and, if we're being honest, it is hard to have this conversation when you know you live in a country that has a HIGHLY unfair justice system yet you still have to rely on it to punish people.
