One of my best winter cars was a little fwd hatch back with manual trans. and winter tires; very confidence inspiring. My 4x4 tacoma with all terrain tires can get through the heaviest stuff but requires greater concentration to drive properly.
I can't say enough how helpful discussion points in this Trunk Talk episode are for both new car owners or those who've just started driving in wintery places like Canada. And yes-- it's Gabi's Winter Tire advocacy that convinced me finally change my tires this winter season. PS. So glad my podcast topic suggestion got thru! Woohoo! 🎉🎉🎉
Winter Tires vs AWD - you are spot on. Winter tires (or all weather like I have - sold my factories), then like an extra inch of ground clearnance I would take over AWD any day by a long shot in winter snow. AWD is SO over marketed for domestic use - but I wish everyone still drove sedans and wagon right - so they tend to be FWD.
Agree. I live in the US Northeast and have a RWD sedan with snow tires. This works for except when the snow is deep and the car doesn’t have the ground clearance. So we also have a SUV which has higher ground clearance.
yeah - sadly the -50 washer fluid here - wax/polish I just "laddle" it on as close to the time (late September) when it is getting too cool to wax properly.
Forgive my naivety but when switching Tyres I assume the Tyres that are not in use have to be kept and stored until the season changes back to Spring. But where & how does everyone store them? Especially if they live in a small Apartment for example? And it must be expensive too! In the UK switching Tyres for the Winter isn't done, I find this practice curiously fascinating.
That’s actually a great question! A lot of customers will either store them in their garage or even in their basement if they have the room for it. Our dealership does give the option to customers to store their winter tires with us. We have about 7 sea cans full of tires!
Say what you want but people with awd aren't restricted from getting snow tires. An awd with 4 snow tires will plow through better than a 2wd with snow tires.
Yes! And we talked about that a couple times :) however, the purpose of AWD is to get you going - not to stop you - that’s where snow tires make an impact. But yes, of course AWD is gonna get you going more than FWD

Meh, just drive of of those old Military Hummers through the winter seasons. Hard to get stuck with those.😂
Good tips, but I live in Florida.
