LEGO SPIKE Prime Scorpion, a hexapod walking robot

- Meet my LEGO Education Spike Prime Scorpion robot. It's a six-legged walking robot with a vicious spiky tail. Fun with mechanics and coding!
This hexapod walker can be built with a LEGO Spike Prime set, a Spike Prime expansion set and some extra bricks you can borrow from another Spike set (in my case from the remaining pieces of my SwirlBot).
The leg design is based on the EV3 walker from Audiultra Robotics and apparently I was also subconsciously inspired by the Mindstorms NXT scorpion who was even called SPIKE. I never had or made this one but when I looked up LEGO Scorpions afterwards I guess I must have seen a movie of that robot once. In any case it is a nice tribute to the ancestor of the SPIKE robot.

Note: the LEGO SPIKE Prime 45678 set is the educational version of the new LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor 51515 set.

I wish these extra pieces could be in the spike prime kit or expansion set, because it’s a pain to buy the pieces individually
All the pices are in the Spike prime or the expansion set. But you might need multiple sets to get enough pieces.

I really like the look of these LEGO Spike Prime models, the vibrant colors almost remind me of how the LEGO Mindstorms RCX models looked. Excellent video!

Do you have instructions for the little grasshopper robot?
It is in the teacher instructions for the hopper race lesson in the Spike app. (Open the teacher resources in that module, there you can go online to the teacher resources)

Expansion set has 1 large motor and 1 color sensor. No extra hub

i think the retell includes 4 motors, distance senor, and color sensor.

You need a SPIKE Prime set and a SPIKE expansion set + some extra bricks. All needed parts and free buildinginstructions are in the "how to build Spike Scorpion" Video. Pdf instructions are in tbe description of that video.

? Link to BI is in video description. Or do you mean the bug in the beginning of the video? That one is from LEGO, instructions for that one can be found in the online lesson plan (hopper race) for teachers.
