Thanks for the info guys. Here in the uk I ordered the brown base/gold style mirrors. You make a great point! These are not for everyone, and at times times the mirror can make it harder for others to see your eyes even indoors in the 'clear' phase. They sure do make for a stylish look though for those who like the light fashion indoor tints, and they make great sunglasses while spending time outdoors.
Great video! Question for you experts. I usually get regular glasses with anti glare (AR). This is the first time I’m looking into transition glasses and want the silver shadow. If I choose transition with silver mirror, I cannot get AR, correct? Or does it have some AR features?
Thank you Saul! To answer your question about AR with Transitions Mirrors you are on the right track. It does have some AR features. More specifically, you can not put AR on the front of the lens because that’s where the mirror coating is, however Transitions Style Mirrors include an AR coating on the back of the lens. This backside AR coating prevents reflections in the backside of the the lenses.

Yes, it is possible to add Prevencia to Transitions lenses, and that is the only kind of blue filter you can add to a Transitions lens. Prevencia is a lens coating, which is different than most blue filters that are being used today such a Blue Zero and BlueTech.

Some folks seem to do fine with them as their primary pair though, so it depends on the person.

@HicksBrunson. I can only go one pair of glasses at a time. Other than the time it takes to clear up inside, could Xtra Active Mirrors be worn as a primary pair of glasses?

The lamp is a great start. The Style colors lenses may still be available to order from the Transitions Pro website. As for the Style Mirrors, we had to work directly with our lab to get these samples. It's nice to have them to show our clients.
Hey guys great video! My question is, do the mirrored colored lenses act a a filter? Meaning, will the brown or pink or blue bring out more highlights than gray? Thx!
In my experience all of these flash mirrors used in the Transitions Style Mirrors portfolio do not cause any noticeable unwanted color shift. I made another video about Style Mirrors and Anti-Reflective coatings in which I talk a little bit about how solid mirrors will cause an unwanted color to show up when placed on an XTRActive lens. I also show an example of what this looks like. Check out the video here: th-cam.com/video/Ag29dB3G8vM/w-d-xo.html -Daniel B.
Hello Seth. The mirror on the front will still cause some noticeable reflections on the back. This is the case even though there should be an anti-reflective coating on the back as there is on all of the ones we make. There is no way around the physics of this. Mirrors cause reflections on both sides. I have made a separate video where I explain all of this in detail. See here: th-cam.com/video/Ag29dB3G8vM/w-d-xo.html

Is there any polycarbonate material for this Xtractive Style Mirrors lenses? It does look more stylish than regular Transitions Signature, but if it doesn't support polycarbonate, I guess that's one of the cons, right?
I can say that I personally wear it and I love the clarity in all types of driving conditions. I don't yet have a TH-cam video on it, but I have posted a few on my personal IG. See here: instagram.com/reel/CzjesjUxaAm/
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear Thank you very much for your insights on the Transitions Drivewear. As you described, it's an underrated lens with very rare reviews in TH-cam. I will consider this in my future Rx sunglass requirements.
You recommend certain tint and mirror combinations. Any arguments against brown tint with a blue mirror? I look good in blue, but I like seeing a yellow tint. Otherwise, great video, the still frames outside help.
Hello Cody. I have nothing against Blue mirrors on brown tints. The only thing to consider is that the mirror color and appearance will be affected somewhat by the base tint color you use. The cool thing with these lenses is that you get to customize them how you like it. -Daniel Brunson
I have mirrored style (red) lenses in Transitional Xtractive and they are awesome! my other backup pair of glasses, they are not mirrored and only transitional Xtractive. Which one is supposed to be darker? I feel like my non mirrored lenses are darker than my mirrored ones despite both having Xtractive..
The mirror does block a little more light so it should feel darker, but I had a guess as to why your non-mirrored on feels darker. The red mirror is typically made with the XTRActive Brown Base color. If your non-mirrored XTRActive is Grey, that could possibly be a reason why they seem darker. -Daniel B.
Hello I’m looking into new lenses for my club masters I really want sunglasses but I need prescription and I don’t wanna be changing from presc sunglasses and eyeglasses what’s the best way to do it for darkest look using transitions I like the original ray ban polarized green
Transitions XTRActive Grey or Graphite Green would be great for what you are wanting. You might also consider XTRActive Polarized Grey. All of those options are the darkest that Transitions offers. Enhancing any one of them with a mirror will block more light, but some people do not like the mirror at night or indoors while the lenses are clear. Feel free to send me an email to daniel@hicksbrunson.com if I can help you with lenses.
I think all colors are equal in this case, because the mirror will provide some cover indoors. Adding a light tint to the lens so that there is always a little tint color present would provide more cover.
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear so you can tint it more in addition to the xtractive slight tint ? How much tint can you add so that it would still be acceptable for night time driving ?
Congratulations on your recent purchase! First let me say I think you’re going to love them. They can work just fine as a primary pair. I just wouldn’t recommend them as you’re only pair until you’ve worn them in different situations such as events at night where there are a lot of lights. Some will do fine all day long with them, and some will prefer non-mirrored lenses some of the time either for the esthetics or because of the added reflections you might see from the back of the mirror. Which color did you choose? - Daniel Brunson
Funny thing these (grey base blue mirror) are my go to daily wear but I have multiple pairs that are non Activewear clear (poly, UV, AR, blue light filter) prescriptions I wear when I’m not working my desk job and out with my friends! Personally I would recommend as daily wear for desk jobs/ students and a secondary non transition for evenings off/ out on the weekend. Either way agreed with this type you do need more than one pair and if you’re like me even w just Plano you need mult pairs cause I leave em and everywhere
I love my Style Mirrors when I'm working at my desk. They provide great blue light protection for this, and they are also good to go on weekends! It's a win-win! -Daniel Brunson
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear I agree for some transitions activewear is an all around pair, but for myself I do contacts and sunglasses with different tints dependent on my activities during my “off” time! Either way I do recommend them, but for some specialized lenses for specific activities or clear eyewear as alternatives might be something they may need based on their specific needs or recreational activities! My specific eyes like the activewear when I am working, clear only on weekends, and contacts w non prescriptions for my active activities such as shooting, hiking, snow sports, water sports! :)
Is it typical for a Style Mirror Gold lens to appear mirrored on both sides when clear? The backside mirror is so prominent that it is near unusable indoors.
It may appear mirrored on back side depending on the angle that light is reflecting off of the backside of the lens. You can move the lenses around at different angles, and you may see the mirror coating and the AR coating at the same time. It all depends on where the light is coming from. Anytime you have a mirror on a clear lens there will be more noticeable reflections than there would be on a lens that has a full anti-reflective coating. In my experience fitting and wearing these lenses I have found that some folks are bothered by these reflections and some are not. Sometimes the frame can be adjusted closer to the face, and possibly have some wrap added that will reduce the visible reflections.
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear Thanks for the info! I had not considered frame wrap to reduce backside reflections. I've been in the optical industry for 10 years and have never encountered a lens so challenging to adapt to. When the lens is dark, I do not notice the mirror on the back. But when clear, it is so bad that I simply cannot wear it. It is not only reflections that I see, but very noticeable abberations around the edge of the lens when I use my peripheral vision. It is like I am looking through a smoky haze and must take my glasses off to see clearly. I've worn poly all my life but have never seen that before.
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear Thank you very much for your response. I enjoy your videos. I was thinking gold or green also...leaning more towards green. But silver is interesting! The frame is a very faint tortoise..with more brown tones.
A good rule of thumb is to clean them the same way you would clean any prescription lenses. Soap and water is works well. Chemical free lens cleaners work well and are safer to use. Always use liquid and always dry gently with a soft cloth such as a micro fiber cloth.
If i get a brown base xtra active and add the red mirror would the color i see through them be the red, or would i see the brown base and the red only be on the outside as a style finish?

I got a couple pair of titanium rimmed glasses I'm going to put some lenses in. One I am going to add clear lenses and an Optician recommended I add Crizal Sapphire coating to it. For the second, I'm thinking I would like to make into a transition sunglass and now I'm really thinking about this mirror coating. If I were to a brown tint with, perhaps, a gold mirror, what sort of (Crizal or otherwise) coating should I add? I'm thinking I don't need to go so far as to add the expensive Sapphire given that there will be this tint. What is your suggestion? Also, as a side note, I was also thinking about adding Drivewear Transition to yet another set of frames I have... I know... a big bill is on its way. Just wondering what sort of coating (Crizal or otherwise) I should add to this. Thank you for your great videos! I've subscribed as of today. Thank you!
Hello Brian. Thank you for subscribing to our channel! As for your first question, if you add the Gold mirror to create a Transitions Style Mirrors lens, then there will automatically be an anti-reflective coating on the back side of the lens. The mirror will be on the front side. No other form of coating including Sapphire is needed or possible with the mirror coating on the front. I do recommend adding Crizal Sapphire to Transitions Drivewear as it will sharpen your image clarity and reduce reflections on the lenses.

For Transition Xtractive lenses, without the Style Mirror coating, do they get a little darker indoors, if the lighting is bright? I know they already have a slight tint, but would they still get even a little darker under bright, indoor light. And would they get a little darker inside of a car, in the driver's seat?
They will darken slightly indoors only in the presence of UV, so if you are near large windows with UV light directly coming in then they will darken slightly. Yes, they will also darken slightly behind a car windshield.

If a person takes a selfie while wearing Style Mirrors, will the reflection of his hand and phone show up in the photo...esp. if the photo is taken outdoors?
If the photo is taken outdoors while the lenses are dark, then yes the hand and phone will show. If the photo is taken inside while the lenses are clear, then probably not. The reflection is 'barely there' indoors when the lenses are clear.

I am a very hard person to please generally. After seeing this video, I shopped around making many phone calls here in Michigan trying to find place to get a pair. I called the Kellogg Eye Institute in Ann Arbor where they do some of the finest surgery imaginable. Their sales staff, not so much. I asked for their "most knowledgeable person" regarding Transitions lenses. Long and short of it all is the guy tried telling me - what i am describing is 2nd generation Transitions (Not). I went to the Transitions website to their list of shops that sell their product. After finding nothing but cluelessness or price gougers 'Americas Best' I figured i would take a chance calling down to Oklahoma and see what kind of price they would give me if i ordered and had mailed her to Michigan. Again, in short, but not to be overlooked is the fact they let me order frames that they do not sell, had them sent and for NO EXTRA charge, fitted them up with just what I wanted for UNDER $350 ... Mailed. I am SO happy. Thanks Guys

I live in Florida and I am a Sherriff service officer and I am out in the sun a lot and want to know if I send you my current prescription could you do progressive lenses with transitions XtrActive and the silver shadow mirror. I like RayBan black Aviator frames. So please let me know if this is possible and the costs involved. Thank You!
Hello Andy, We would love to help you. Please send an email to daniel@hicksbrunson.com with a description of what you want and a copy of your Rx and we will get this taken care of for you.
So mad. Essilor sent my practice the UV lamp that you have there but no demo lenses to show mirror or the new Gen8 colors.
Check out the video here: th-cam.com/video/Ag29dB3G8vM/w-d-xo.html
-Daniel B.
Can you tell the difference from the front? My lenses look like the backside also has the mirror on it. Its quite distracting to wear as well.
Great video! Your other videos are also really good. Sad to see so less subscribers due to youtube's money making policies. Ive ordered ray ban's original wayfarer tortoise frame. Plan on putting xtra active gold in them. You think its a good match?
Thank you! Gold will look great in the RB Wayfarer. For your next Wayfarer you might want to consider the AO Saratoga.
Is there any polycarbonate material for this Xtractive Style Mirrors lenses? It does look more stylish than regular Transitions Signature, but if it doesn't support polycarbonate, I guess that's one of the cons, right?
It is available in Hi Index 1.67 and Polycarbonate. We can make it in poly on special request.
@HicksBrunsonEyewear. What can you say about the Transitions Drivewear are they good in terms of clarity?
Thanks for this video.
So do you mix the base colour with the mirror colour ?? Or is it one or the other ?
You choose the base color, Grey, Brown, or Green, and then you select a mirror color.
-Daniel B.
I would like a brown base with dark blue mirror
That could be done!
Feel free to send me an email to daniel@hicksbrunson.com if I can help you with lenses.
can you review the transitions gen 8 in saphire + "mirror silver" please
That sounds like a nice combo. If I get an opportunity to do that I will take it!
what is the best color in the transitions xtractive mirror colors to obscure or hide my eyes while indoors or not activated by sunlight ?
I think all colors are equal in this case, because the mirror will provide some cover indoors. Adding a light tint to the lens so that there is always a little tint color present would provide more cover.
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear so you can tint it more in addition to the xtractive slight tint ? How much tint can you add so that it would still be acceptable for night time driving ?
I recently purchased these as a secondary pair which I will intend as a primary. Any reasons as to why you would suggest not to do that ?
Congratulations on your recent purchase! First let me say I think you’re going to love them. They can work just fine as a primary pair. I just wouldn’t recommend them as you’re only pair until you’ve worn them in different situations such as events at night where there are a lot of lights. Some will do fine all day long with them, and some will prefer non-mirrored lenses some of the time either for the esthetics or because of the added reflections you might see from the back of the mirror. Which color did you choose? - Daniel Brunson
Which color transition lense brown or amber would you recommend for a pal gold frame for a women?
I always go for the Amber in gold frames because those two colors look really sharp together.
Do the colors look like colored lenses when you are looking through them or do they still look greyer brown And just have color on top?
They mostly look grey or brown. The mirrors are flash mirrors, meaning low density, so they do not shift color enough to make a big visual difference.
Can these come in varifocals ?
Yes. Single vision and progressive.
Hello what color lens would you suggest with a matte tortoise frame? Thank you in advance.
Hello, Matte tortoise looks good with a lot of colors. I am partial to gold and green, but silver can look nice too.
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear Thank you very much for your response. I enjoy your videos. I was thinking gold or green also...leaning more towards green. But silver is interesting! The frame is a very faint tortoise..with more brown tones.
Would it be possible to share your views for Xtractive Transition with Green Base Lens with Blue Mirror?
I’ve not yet seen that combo, but it sounds interesting. It might not be that different from Grey though, as green and grey are quite similar.
Can Xtractive Style Mirror lenses be cleaned with the usual types of liquid lens cleaners, including the anti-fog types?
A good rule of thumb is to clean them the same way you would clean any prescription lenses. Soap and water is works well. Chemical free lens cleaners work well and are safer to use. Always use liquid and always dry gently with a soft cloth such as a micro fiber cloth.
If i get a brown base xtra active and add the red mirror would the color i see through them be the red, or would i see the brown base and the red only be on the outside as a style finish?
Hello Victor. You will see brown when looking through the lens. The red mirror is what others will see looking at you, and it is quite stylish!
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear thank you. Is the mirror available only on he xtra active or can it be applied to the Gen 8 as well? I only ask because the opticals in my city have no idea about these new transition products
@@victorrangel93 It’s not an official Transitions product if you apply a mirror to Gen 8, but it can be done.
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear Lol. I should have referred back to this comment before making payment on my lens purchase.
They are charging me for a backside AR. Are they doubling the anti-reflectiveness on my lenses or are they charging me for something I shouldn't really have to pay for? They charged 2 x $50 ($100) for the backside AR only.

@@HicksBrunsonEyewear Thank you for your reply.

Yes. We can do Gold, Silver, or Blue flash mirrors on XTRActive Polarized.

Hello Daniel,
Re the XrtraActive, when they are fully dark, do they compar with Lens Category 3?
Thanks
In typical conditions they will achieve category 3 darkness. Temperature will have some affect as to how dark they will become. In colder weather they will become slightly darker.
Is this available for a 1.67 surfaced lens? I've gone to two ECPs in Canada, B.C and they are saying its not possible.
It should be available in Plastic, Poly, and 1.67.
Wich is more dark in the sun, gen 8 or xtractive? Because the UV machine don't copy exactly the sun.
XTRActive will be darker in the sun. It is more sensitive to light including indirect UV light.
could you do video about transitions vantage?
Yes we can and we will! If you haven't already, make sure to subscribe to our channel so you don't miss it when we release it. Variable polarization is cool tech!
Can you pair them with a polarized base transition lens?
I have not done that specific pairing before, but yes you can and that would be cool.
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear wow, that's incredible that you can have polarized mirrored transition lenses! Thanks for the info!
The xtractive is how much darker than gen 8?
It all depends on UV exposure. Both XTRActive and Gen 8 will look similarly dark in direct sunlight. XTRActive will look noticeably darker in indirect sunlight such as outside under a shade covered area or inside a car.
Are the prescription or non prescription?
Good question. They are prescription or non-prescription. The choice is yours.
The cons are pros in my case I love the fun of that
It sounds like you are the lucky one!
@@HicksBrunsonEyewear Thank you for the reply. Let me ask you this: If I have the Style Mirrors coating, on top of the Xtractive feature, then there will still always be a little bit of tint, even indoors, with the Xtractive lenses, correct?
@@dragonfly9143 That is correct, but the little bit of tint that is there is a 'barely there' tint or what we call a hint of tint. It is almost not visible to the eye. The mirror will be somewhat visible indoors, but the tint not so much.

why cant they put mirror on Gen8 :(
We can put a mirror on Gen 8. That would be a custom job. Those are not the new generations right? Are those still the Generation 7th?
The lenses in this video are Transitions XTRActive, which at the time of this video was XTRActive Gen 1. XTRActive is now in Gen 2, which changes faster and gets darker behind the windshield.
Thanks Guys
Oh yeah. And they were in my mailbox in less than one week.
