Actually just got my McNees MAC 2 3.5" in CPM-Magnacut from you guys on Tuesday. Cannot wait to see how long till I got to sharpen, and how that process goes. You guys are definitely my favorite knife dealer right now, cannot wait to see what happens after move/expansion is complete.

Each grade is called something else inside the mill. Except S35VN and M4. We have a chart inside our office what each grade is called once it leaves Crucible.
Yes am a CPM employee at Crucible

I can’t seem to get a definitive answer on what’s tougher and has better edge retention between cru-wear, magnacut, and elmax.

Why don't we see more of Carpenters steels being used for pocket knives?

The story and state of Cruicible is a sad one. With the de-industrialization of America, the center for steel R&D has shifted to countries like China, Japan, Scandinavia and Germany. Crucible, while they still make good specialty steels, no longer has any R&D. Due to a lack of capital re-investment, they are also falling behind in their equipment and processes compared to companies like Sandvik or Energietechnik -- they don't have pressurized electroslag remelting for instance. Magnacut was essentially the brainchild and stroke of luck gifted to Crucible by an independent Metallurgist -- I say stroke of luck because he got it right with the first formulation on the 1st try and there wasn't the money or the will do more melts if he hadn't.

Ya know, now that I think about it... I think the rest of Jamie's knife collection has a lot of steels made by CPM.😉
