I don't think you understand the singing nature of this episode. This type of singing is traditional Japanese music singing known as Joruri. It is used to narrate important events and I think it is the best fitting ending to Wano
Yeah, it's a bit weird for him to be mocking traditional Japanese music in a country completely centered around traditional Japan,, but I guess since it "isn't music he likes" he's allowed to? But, then again, Ruff has a habit complaining about 'this or that' and then realizing later he was kind of being an asshole about it, so I think he just refuses to think before he speaks.
I'd agree with you general sentiment but that is not joruri at all. It is Roukyoku (浪曲), as the shamisen player is separate and a woman (Roukyoku is the few Japanese performance styles that women were allowed on stage), the set up with the table and fan, the singing style and instrumentation, and the historical context behind Roukyoku.
Roukyoku is even the much more fitting performance style in the story, as the Chusingura story which the Akazaya Nine is based off is it's standalone genre in the Roukyoku, and is closely associated. Roukyoku was made popular at the end of Edo era and after WW2, and is a symbol of a new era ushering in. Roukyoku even has a history of not being accepted by other traditional arts because it was thought as low class but eventually turned the tide.

Episode 1084: I'm so glad we got this filler episode. It wrapped up a lot of stuff that was completely skipped in the manga. The biggest one for me was that Kiku actually acknowledged her brother dying and mourned her brother. I kind of wish that Zoro had learned he was related to Ryuma and was a member of the Shimotsuki clan because Zoro's family tree is something we found out in the SBS of volume 105.
Episode 1085: I loved this episode so much. This along with the previous episode made the end of Wano so much better. I loved the Momonosuke eyecatcher and I loved the use of Over the Top. Also, this is Example 1057 of Luffy trying to kill his crew.

The _traditional_ music at the end was the perfect cap for the story, it fit how we started this arc.
Yeah as a Japanese person that shit was crazy exciting, especially considering the historical context.
The type of performance is called Roukyoku, which became popular at near the end of Edo era, which is what Wano is based off in setting. So it fits that it was also put in at the end of Wano, especially considering that Roukyoku flourished because of the drastic shift in society that occured.
What's more interesting in my opinion is that Roukyoku has very tight ties with the inspiration behind the Akazaya Nine. Roukyoku topics cover anything from a sob story to war to comedy, but there's a specific categorization for performance that are based on the story of Chusingura, which is based on a historical incident called the Ako Incident (written as 赤穂). Chusingura's story is basically about a group of lord-less samurai on a mission to avenge the death of their lord, which is pretty much what the Akazaya (赤鞘) Nine is, and a clear reference to that.
Essentially, they ended Wano with a performance that symbolizes a new era AND something that has pretty much been associated with the source material of the Akazaya Nine (and by extension, the whole plot of Wano). In my opinion it's the perfect way to end it. I do understand a lot of casual watchers like Ruff who may not really look into context may find it unpleasant and foreign, especially if they don't care about the culture that builds to the creation of the fictional work and thus are oblivious to symbols. But I think for a Japanese anime arc based on Japan made for Japanese audiences the absolutely hit the nail.

The Japanese traditional music to close out Wano was the cherry on top of this arc. Perfect ending.

FYI Franky and Brook running over Big Mom was in the manga as well. It's one of my favorite moments of all of Wano cause Franky and Brook are my 1 and 2 of the Strawhat crew. The anime made it SO MUCH better with the song they sing lol.
This 1084 episode actually fits in well because it really showed what they didn't show in the manga at the time, it basically just told us they spoke to everyone but not enough content which is great, I don't consider this a filler

Wano isn't so bad when you binge it, actually a lot of arcs aren't so bad if you binge watch it. But then again, I stopped watching One Piece 8 years ago still in Dressrosa, so I had the opportunity to binge almost 300 episodes this month. And I'm a patient person since I could wait years for episodes to pile up then just binge watch every 2-3 years.

Time to Say Sayonara To Wano & Hello To The Next Arc (Air on Jan. 7, 2024)
- Now with the curtain fall means that the Kabuki play is over with the Wano Arc (being 149 Chapters / 191 Episodes = about 5 Years), but Oda also finishes off with Rakugo a traditional Japanese storytelling (he loves the even basing the man telling off of Toradora Hiroawa) which you may have not notice but Oda made a few references to various Rakugo stories like Kaido’s final attack = Kean Daiko (means “Flaming Drum”)
- Now with Hiyori saying “Kurozumi (means “black charcoal”) were born to burn” (a play on Oden was born to boil) & that Tama was revealed to be a Kurozumi on her parent’s graves people reacted negatively which Oda mentions in a SBS that she only means Orochi should burn (I honestly thought that Hiyori was referring to the Kurozumi’s grudge will burn), but also just to note while they both come from the same clan Orochi did not help any relatives
- I am sad that neither Momo, Kie’mon, Yamato, Carrot, & / or Tama are not going to join
Episode 1084 is maybe filler but I like that it lets us get to see the Straw Hat Pirates goodbyes to some of the habitants of Wano which during the manga we wanted to see something similar to Zoro going the Ryuma’s grave but this personally also good to see Zoro giving his respect to Yasu & Pedro along with Luffy’s goodbye to Tama

I finally caught up after having a break for a while and I managed to catch up today on the final episode of wano. This arc has been emotional as hell and amazing and I still don't get why people hate on slower episodes when we are getting character growth.
I'm so sad that wano Arc ended. It was an amazing story with great topics, awesome battles and an amazing bactory of the legendary Oden. And I'm gonna miss Momo, Yamato , Carrot, Tama and Kin'emon.
But the anime hasn't end yet and I'm so excite to the next arc.
I'm so glad that they changed what Hoyori proclaimed before Orochi. In the manga was so dark and the anime was more better. It does make more sense.
Black charcoal isn't Kutozumi if it's not burned is the same of Oden isn't Oden if it's not boiled
1085 was directed by toshinori fukuzawa previous series director of late dressrosa and wci saga and he is one of the best directors when it comes to arc climaxes best know of directing an episode 877 wci climax

I think the issue is that you don't realize that writing Rakugo is so rare these days. It's like Brodway making an actual shakespearian play and nt some musical.
If you haven't see the anime called "Rakugo" (2 seasons) it's an art form that started in the middle ages and was pretty much on the verge of extinctin after ww2.
Yeah, to us, it sounds a bit ridiculous. But it's a pretty big deal.
Also, watch Rakugo. You will bawl your eyes out.

Not at all. Rakugo does not have an accompanying instrumentalist, and is rare for a table to be placed in front of the performer. Rakugo will also not sing.

Oh nice! I thought you guys were going back to reading arc by arc for Manga Bros but that's way more exciting to hear you guys talk about the latest chapters! I'd throw you guys into my rotation of weekly chapter reviews if you made a podcast each week about it for sure. I wish I could check out your guys manga reactions but I can't afford patreon cause it's been a real bad year for me.
Wano is great (best moments in series 100%) but there are too many things that disappointed me:
-Kaido being ultimate evil guy for over 500 ep and he didnt killed anyone in final battle
-kaido backstory and the end of the fight and it's super fast
-Too many Oden subordinates that dont do shit + plus fake kin death make me mad
-Nothing about Wano vassal in present
-Yamato feels like he was create on a wimp ( basically 3 lines, I am Kozuki Oden, I hate my father, I will join straw hats, he kinda feeled not like important character with this shit)
-zoro not visiting ryuma grave that he wanted to visit, his family explained in sbs and death reaper (i not that he will be in future probably, but still on even one dialog about it)
-to many times story jump in act 3 (g5 ep when they jump to hiyori like cmon)
-milion episodes with fucking ice onis,
-lastly end of wano feels rushed, we didn't even have a jinbei celebration party
I love at the same time and hate it, cant make up my mind to be fair.

Wano was an ambitious and intense arc. I would have love to put it my top 3, unfortunately there're a lot of little facepalm moments which make it lose some points.
I wish I could be like you and ignore them to focus on the positives, but I just can't : the many characters introduced who didn't get to shine or do much (Carrot, Usopp, Kappa, Hyogoro, Hiyori), Big Mom convenient amnesia, the many ridiculous fakeout deaths, Sanji using his invisible suit to perv on Nami in the bath right after his development back on Whole Cake and of course Yamato claiming to join the crew again and again and again and AGAIN, just to change their mind at the last second offscreen (I think this one annoys me the most).

Wano was great overall, tho a few plotpoints weren't entirely satisfying, keeping it around my 6th fav arc and not top 2 or 3. Also who the hell told u Franky riding over Big Moms face was anime-only? That was clearly in the manga lol
I feel like a good way for Zoro to show that he cared without saying it would have been to ask her to take him back to the ship so he doesn't get lost.
Edit: Kidd is a walking L but there's no way he's getting knocked out by Luffys CoC Haki.
the music was an ode to the era and culture wano was designed and based off of, i get the dislike but its a fan service to the story telling type Oda based wano off of.

The Big Mom amnesia and the fake deaths was the biggest flaws in this arc. And there is some other flaws too, Wano is not a perfect arc but it is an amazing arc
Kinemon and Kiku should have died. I can accept if Kinemon survive but Kiku, no. Kiku surviving doesn't make sense to me
This channel used to be one of my favorites but I just feel like the effort I subscribed to this channel for has fallen to the wayside. I get youre doing sorta stupid but its a bit saddening that it feels like the "One Piece only" channel you had been planning has died. I wish you did more theory content or manga content like you had originally planned but I also get that people change and if your love for one piece has lessened you should let us know in a community post or video so we can be aware rather than feeling hopeless as you fall further and further behind in even the anime

I didn’t enjoy the theory content because the community was just super negative all the time and the manga content was resulting in claims that I didn’t want to deal with. I read the manga every week as soon as the scans release. I just only post them to patreon so I don’t have to deal with the copyright on TH-cam

The "HUPF" between lines was very common in edo japan, while storytelling, it was something related to letting the audience know the end of and start of a new part (i am not entirely sure so if any1 Japanese plz correct me).

Wano was A tier for me. It would have been S tier if there was more focus on the strawhats. Usopp did not get love at all this arc, Tama did more than he did. We expected more from Kaido's backstory as well as Yamato's origins and purpose in the story. Most of the attention were on the Akazaiya 9, hyori and momo in which hyori got her moment taken away by Denjiro, Kinemon and Kiku should have been dead after the damage they took and how much it was built up to end up being a gag and meanwhile Asura Doji and Izo's deaths were so quick and off-screened that made you doubt that they died and made it less impactful. The Hawkins 1% man turned out to be him in which no one cares. We barely see Tsuru and Kinemon's reunion, if you blinked, you would have missed it. Yamato all of a sudden says he's not gonna join and meanwhile he was affirming that he's gonna join the whole arc since he was introduced and doesn't get explained why in this arc. This should have been Zoro's arc but we got nothing and no Tashigi either. Instead, we get it in SBS. Same thing with Kidd, he looked really bad compared to Law who got a full arc and backstory and Kidd's backstory is in an SBS, his powers were not impressive compared to Law. He has conqueror's haki in which we never got to see him used. He seems like he doesn't even know what Haki is. He see's Luffy's red roc and was like, "he can hurt kaido?" Kidd had more reason than Luffy did to take down Kaido because of what he did to Killer but I don't think he even got a hit in. There's just too many disappointments to list. Not Chopper nor Law even tried to cure the people who ate smiles. Chopper isn't really a fighter but can Oda at least give him a doctor's feat? Lots of cutting away from exciting fights just to go check in to see Momo struggling making flame clouds for like 10 episodes or being reminded of Wano citizens starving for 5 episodes or Raizo v. Fukurokuju holding the same pose for the 15th time, or the lanterns that took like 10 chapters to reach the sky or Yamato going to the basement to freeze the bombs. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of great stuff too but I'm just saying that there were equally the same amount or more of the negatives that just brings this arc down a tier or 2. There were no real stakes for the strawhats, they did not have to go to Wano. Wholecake arc had more stakes cuz Sanji was involved and Fishman Island too was pretty much Jinbei's arc. They weren't strong arcs either but at least they had personal stakes. In the manga, its worse because we don't even get 1084 filler episode where they get to say goodbye. The anime did it better but the pacing was god awful with the adapting 1 episode per a chapter where nothing really happens but camera angles of unimportant characters just standing there and staring like dragon ball Z side characters.

I didn't expect myself to during Momo and Luffy's goodbye. 😢❤️ It was bittersweet but also it's an end in more then just Wano. It is the allience with Law too. So much have happened... It was for sure a rollercoaster. 💔❤️

Carrot already has such a great bond with the crew that its too bad she didn't join. I think Yamato might still join later on because she knows Luffy's dream just like the rest of the strawhats and no other honorary strawhat has that. Maybe Yamato joining now would be spoilers for the rest of the crew so if she does join, it will need to be towards the very end.
