    Oh so pretty!! The only drawback I see is that once you've poured resin on them you can't reuse the holographic material..... With the molds you can reuse them.
    You can even make or buy insert to go in different molds. I'm currently making several of different shapes and sizes for my own use. ( trays, jewelry, ect.)
    Just remember if you are going to make inserts that you NEED to make them very thin, and also make sure to treat them gently.
    Stay safe, you do you, and stay crafty👍👍🔔🔔🦋🦋

    I make these but i put the film in my coaster rough side up. Pour in my resin and when its set i pull off the film then its permanently on the piece without all the extra steps you just did. Then if you want you can make a mold of that piece then you never need the film again.

      Yes. I’ve seen others do it that way and it seems so simple. I can’t wait to start crafting again (I’m moving so everything is packed up) so I can do this.

      @Dream_Sickle cut your window film to the size of your coaster. Peel off the backing and stick it to the bottom of the mold. Then add resin. After it cures, unmold it. Then peel off the window film if it sticks to the resin. It might stay on the mold which is great. That window film is pretty thick and resin doesn't adhere to it.
      I made a ton of windchimes out of coaster molds and that film. Just drill holes and add those clear crystals. Good luck sweetie!

      Do you mean you put a thin layer of clear resin, cure then add the film, then more resin on top

    QUESTION how do you think this would work in a pyramid or the lage crystal mold if stuck two pieces together back to back and put it in the center of the mold as you poured? New experiment maybe?

    • @dylanharrell503
      @dylanharrell503 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He made a video a few weeks ago about how to make a resin pyramid and save resin. If you use that technique in a clear pyramid and then go back after it cures put the holographic paper on and then fill up the rest of the pyramid it might work.

    You must read my mind, lol. I just ordered a 25 pack of the same holographic sheets to see if this would work. There are 5 different holo prints in the pack. I purchased 1 holo mold, and as much as I love it, I wanted to make different things, but the molds can be pricey. I've been so afraid to try this for fear of wasting resin. Thank you so much bc now I am super excited to try so many different things!!!!!! Steve, you are the best & my favorite crafter hands down. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Probably a comment you have already heard, but I always save my expired gift cards & expired credit cards to use to burnish things like this. Extra bonus, they can be used to do dishes as well and actually have a couple local restaurants using them too to clean counters and cookware. Seems to be my underpaid calling these days with all the inflation hitting world wide.

    Brilliant idea, Steve! They're all so gorgeous! ❤😊 You're so right about holographic molds being very expensive. Ouch! Worth it, if you afford it, but...yikes. 😲 A black background always seems to show off holographic stuff best, for some reason.

    Glad to hear you ordered your 3D printer it’s another obsession …. I swear your like the male crafter version of me jack of all crafts anywho I blame my adhd but what I was gonna say is that keep your eye out on Amazon warehouse for cheap PLA the warehouse staff are extra careless with stock and I get loads of bargains on warehouse don’t think I’ve had a single item that was a return all was broken boxes and so far all my PLA has been warehouse best one was half price cause the exterior box had a rip right through it!

    I wonder if those Holographic Vinyl effect would transfer into the resin if sticked to the mold. Some crafters are using holographic window films to make a mold and the holographic transfers to the silicone mold. Then when you use that mold, it transfer to the resin.

    Those turned out really nice. This video reminded me of another floating around the tube somewhere detailing making holographic molds which were used for making holographic chocolates. Wonder if the same process could be used with resin? I've never actually done any resin projects but find your content very interesting 😊

    • @jennitalbot6785
      @jennitalbot6785 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can. I had never seen anyone leave the holographic vinyl inside of the resin, but I like it, because you can put a clear coat over it, where as when you use the transfer method like on chocolate, you can not cover it or the effect goes away.

    Hi Steve, thanks for the beginner video. I still haven’t moved beyond UV resin. I tried to make a bangle with an insert using a mold and finally did one without air bubbles but it still has a rough edge on top. Thought I poured enough resin but it still had a valley. Can you do a tutorial with bangle molds and inserts?
    Also, what exactly is a “torch?” I thought that was a “flash light” in British terms but you can’t pop bubbles with a flashlight. One other resin tutorial TH-camr advised against using a “lighter”. Is a short lighter more likely to melt the mold than a long neck lighter? Be well! “Enjoy your resin!”

    • @elizabethlaws9128
      @elizabethlaws9128 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't use a short lighter to try to pop bubbles. He uses a long one like is sold for candles or grills. I've seen people use butane torches, but I've also seen them catch things on fire doing so! If you use a shorter lighter there is a very good chance that you will set your thumbnail on fire. That is smelly and if you keep your nails short quite unpleasant. Keep your flame moving and away from your mold, and of course the fewer bubbles you put into your pour the fewer there are to try to remove!

    Can I do that with holographic window film?

  • @niccilefevre
    @niccilefevre 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I thought I knew what you were doing...then you took a strange deviation lol. Dont waste the holo sheets. these work by using a very fine texture to create the holo effect, so you line the bottom with the sheet, rough side up, then pour into it. the sheets peel off and it creates a beautiful holo effect while being able to reuse the sheets.
