paul gibson When I was in debt I did not have money to buy things. Now that I'm debt free I have money to buy things. Please explain how debt is good? Unless you're joking...in which case I lol'ed
I'm an automotive tech and looked up the labor time to r&r an engine in a 2014 Enclave (took a stab on this guy's car's year), and it's 15hrs to replace a complete engine. A long block is 19.5hrs, and many reman engines come only as long blocks. That means with an average labor time of $100 an hour he's looking at as much as $1,950 in labor plus the engine and any other incidentals (fluids/filters/etc). Jasper probably does want around $5000 for that 3.6L engine, particularly with the installation kit, and that brings the total to $7000. Without knowing the shop labor rate $8000 is completely possible. Go find a junkyard engine with 100k miles on it, or less, pay $1500-$2000 for it and have new chains/guides/tensioners installed and let 'er rip. Most junkyard engine will come with 30-60 days warranty, sometimes 90 days. Could easily save $3000-$4000.
I have a 2004 Buick Regal LS that was not taken good care of by previous owner. I bought it in cash at 135,000 miles at auction. I believe it had a problem with the engine when I bought it because of the gas mileage. Finally, at 177,500 miles, I had to have the engine replaced. I bought a used one with 80 something thousand miles from Sharper Edge Engines (A+ Better Business Bureau rating and reviews are high on Internet for used engines) and it runs great and getting the best gas mileage I ever got on the car. I think it is the engine that is causing me to get this gas mileage. The engine was $975.00. Would have been $925.00 if I had it delivered to a business. If you shop around, you can have someone put it in cheaply, just make sure they are certified and good.
Dave I'm confused on your views of having credit. You say a credit score doesn't matter and we shouldn't have a credit score but you worry about this guy ruining his credit by having the vehicle repoed. Even if they don't sue him what does it matter if his credit gets hurt over this?
Not having a credit score is a VERY different situation from having a bad/low credit score. If someone pulls your credit and it returns an error because there is not enough info to pull a score, then all that shows is you don't take out credit. However, if someone pulls your credit and returns a 400 credit score, then not only is there enough to pull info, but the info shows that you don't handle credit well at all and to stay away from you.
This is a really confusing video. Dave Ramsey advises against something because "you're going to destroy your credit" and on most of his videos he says "you don't need credit" or "you don't need a credit score". What am I missing?
Literally depends on the engine. There’s is engines that cost twice as much it varies. Unless your a auto expert working in the field then you have no business claiming what it should or shouldn’t cost.
Chris Speer Yeah the dude didn't read the manual which I'm sure requires the timing chain to be replaced every 60k miles or something .. he drove it to 100k .... priceless....and now blames everyone for his troubles
Chris Speer This can happen with a timing chain by not changing the oil, having it too low, and not having the right weight oil at startup to properly lubricate the chain.
timing chains usually last the lifetime of the engine...when they are loose you can hear the rattling ..this guy said he can install an engine?? i doubt it any shadetree mechanic would know that slapping chain noise and take care of it right away...he probably said no big deal and kept driving it.
I have had a 350 chevy that jumped a couple of teeth on the timing gear and the motor had a 120 thousand miles I replaced the timing chain and gears and ran great for another 88.000 before it spun a bearing lol chain or belt it doesn't matter they all wear out sooner or later
It will just have the same issue down the road?? NO! You check the maintenance schedule for the car and have the timing belt changed on schedule every time!
I got a box truck 3 years ago for $44,700 was only worth $37,000 but purchased extra insurance plus taxes. Anyways no one would give me a loan other then a lending bank they gave me a horrible interest rate and basically added up to $110,000 dollars so my monthly payment was $2,000 but it didn’t matter to me since my business was making $10,14,000 a month but I had my employee wreck my truck and my insurance refused to pay for damages until 4 months after the accident so I had run out of all my cash didn’t have enough for bills or to fix the truck until I hired 3rd party company’s to prove to my insurance that the damages where due to accident so they pay the mechanic and for parts. So I try getting back to work but by this time I lost my contract with a furniture company so I have to find a new job took me 2 weeks and I was working at a new place they told me I had to wait 45 days for my first check so I did ending up making very little money I wasn’t even breaking even basically paying for fuel & so now the bank has run out of patience for me I’m only 2 months late on payments and they said they’re gonna repo my truck or I have to pay $7,000 to get back into my monthly payments of $2,000 a month and if I can’t do that I have to pay the remaining balance of $90,000 ... I have no choice but to repo ... I’ve been drowning and tried my best to save it but ultimately I feel as if my insurance let me down.
my friends I have a question.. my 2014 Jeep Patriot will be the last thing on my snowball, I owe $12,111 on it. I am about $2,000 underwater on it. minimum payments are $323 a month. if you make a salary of $41,000 a year gross , factoring in whatever expenses you have.. how fast do you think you could pay the car off?
He either wants a zero credit score or a good credit score so you can get a 15 year mortgage at some point. If your credit is trash, you'll never get approved. Obviously Dave would want you to pay cash for a house over a mortgage any day.
Bad items on a credit report, like a repo, can cause problems for you even if you don't care about taking out loans. It could cost you a job, for example. Employers don't like risk factors like that which indicate you might be irresponsible and/or susceptible to bribery.
Here's my question...why does he care about destroyed credit? He preaches a credit-free lifestyle, so what difference does it ACTUALLY make whether its bad, non-existent, or good? Unless you want to go into debt, your credit is not a question worth asking. Also, this guys plan WOULD work, based off of previous advice given by Dave Ramsey to people who have already had their car repossessed. He says to offer a settlement. Although...this guy is willing to spend his $13,000 to get out of buying a $4,000 engine? That makes little to no sense.
I actually am in the same situation I bought a 2015 Chrysler 200 and still owe about 14000 on it. I don't have collision on the car and it was in a accident and it's 8,000 to fix I have no clue what to do
Captain Quirk- I used to sell insurance and what may have happened is that the agent didn't update the lien holder information, therefore when the policy renewed the lien holder wasn't informed that the collision coverage was dropped.
I need to know why or what I can do to keep my car from going to auction. I made arrangements with the creditor. To pay 646.47. And when I go to the repo place, I or the towing people call the creditor to release my car. Now, the creditor gave me a number that was wrong to the towing company. The company will not pickup or text me or call me back, on where they are. Also, my car is to go Monday Well, 1/13. Help
I really need your advice. I have 2014 Dodge avenger. I was told the engine went out but I don`t know if it that or a head gasket. I hit a piece of wood in the road and it started overheating. A mechanic told me the water pump was damaged and thats was blew the rad hose and cause the engine to blow. The insurance wont do nothing. They keep saying it was a mechanical failure. I hope it not the engine. I was quoted $6300 to replace it. I still owe over 5000 on the car. I don`t know what to do. The car was 8000 when financed it. Even with a new engine I will be 11,000 in a hole and the car it not worth that. What do I do. I really need a car and don`t want to be paying on another loan to fix the car. Should I try to trade it in and see if they will let me or roll it over on another car Tto keep from ruining my credit. I have to have a dependable vehicle to go to appointments and work so I can`t buy a junk car. I really would like to get something else because i think theres more wrong with the car than there telling me because my friend seen water coming out the tank by the tail pipe and it had a hole in it to. I`m just worried if the car get fixed and something else goes wrong they did not find I will be more under water on a loan. Please help thanks Dave
At the time of purchase you sign all these contracts - no cool off period - dealer has the right to take the car back for whatever reason - An interest rate not in your favor blah blah blah. The dealer feels eased because they just sold you a car and it's all profit from there because it has full collision - gap insurance and an interest rate. If something goes wrong i think the very smartest thing to do if left without hope is to crash the car. Insurance will pay the value of the vehicle to the lien holder and gap insurance ($7 a month in my case) will pay the rest of the interest rate. And you're worried free. Instead of getting sued by the finance company and a credit destroyed the only thing you will be harming in this case will be your insurance rate. But if you ask me thats alot more worth it.
As soon as You miss payment or The Bank Knows your In Financial Problem They will look Out for any Fraud , So later when you crash your Car and you file a claim Your insuramce Agency will contact the bank to see if you Behind on payment and close to a Repossesion and so on they will investigate you for Insurance Fraud To get out of car loan next thibg you know you got Police at your door step
The car already has over 100k miles on it, in this case I would be looking for a good low mileage used engine first, reman second. Why waste money buying new or reman on a 100k mile car he probably wont keep much longer anyway?
Getting Repoed is not a good idea. If you don't pay your car payment and you have not sent the tittle pawner or the dealership or bank their money in 90 days they call the DMV and cancel your tags and the cop places a car note on your car and if you don't get it refinanced with the DMV in two weeks the cops call the Triple A, they send Scrappy with the Wrecker, and your car goes to the Junkyard. If you don't want that pay your car payment or sell it.
Especially if you took care of it to manufacturers maintenance schedule...I just had to replace my well cared-for engine in my Cobalt at 101k...I was NOT happy about that. It kind of makes me wonder why I bothered maintaining it.
After watching more and more Dave videos, it seems like leases, car loans, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, etc. are all traps for stupid people (which even smart people are being conditioned to do). Weird.
most new engines today are zero clearance so if timing chain/ belt breaks takes out piston and valves lifters some times it messes up the block/ heads IF you look in the back of you OM it will tell you how often you need to change the chain/ belt most are around 75,000 miles or you can just do a web search on you engine Dave was wrong in saying he was running it hard maybe he was but not the only reason it broke AGE IS THE BIGGEST FACTOR
Guy should have done basic maintence and chained his tensioner and chain way before 120k. Tensioner is a maintence item EVERY car should have chained just like brakes tires and oil.
FF Animal there's no service intervals for timing chains or tensions when they start making noise, you replace them, now he could've put the updated timing chain kit on there it would've saved him the headache. Yours truly Kaptin hindsight.
There's no way in hell a rebuild Buick engine cost $8,000 dollars to replace, you can buy a 2jz engine and do a rebuild the hole engine with a single garret turbo for $8,000 including with the engine
Buick sux. The older 90's and 80's model were sweet, but now? I wouldnt buy a newer car if they were $10,000 cheaper than invoice. My dad bought a brand new dodge durango and its in the shop constantly. Absolutely ridiculous that ppl put up with that kinda bs after paying $30,000. I had a 95' toyota corolla from 2009 to 2016 and paid $1000 for it. I replaced fuel lines, brakes and tires, oil changes and just general maintaince. I would still have that car if some dope head didnt pass out at the wheel and smash it. These newer cars and trucks are pitiful.
I bet he has been listening to those Debt Management Programs 😂😂😂. Stop making payments so they can repo and try to negotiate a settlement in full. Just get a engine in that stupid Buick and sell it. It will work out way easier that way and way less crap to go through.
Modern GM vehicles = one of the biggest POS vehicles on earth. Stop buying junk! That's why they keep making them. And on top of that, they are OVERPRICED. Brilliant.
2/25/20....He doesn't need to b/c he has $55 million & can buy a dozen Ferraris at a time---or 1 in every color they make! 🌈 of colors then in his garage just like Jay Leno!
Honest question, if Dave always talks about not needing credit and being able to live good with a zero credit score why he mentions his credit will be destroyed?
You need a good credit score to get a mortgage on a house. So keeping your credit score good is for that not for getting car loans or credit cards. Hope that makes sense.
why do americans spend so much on their cars!!!! its insane!!! they cant live with out their cars, not just that but they spend fortunes on ...metal on wheels.
I can't believe the caller was actually considering the plan to stop paying on the car. It's amazing what people can justify in their minds to get what they want, which in this case was a new car. Ka-ra-zeee!
I don't think he was trying to get a new car, he just didn't like the idea of paying another $17,000 on a car that crapped out on him and left him with a worthless 4,000 lb. paperweight in his driveway.
if you don't pay your car payment you know what happens? Scrappy shows up with The Wrecker and your car goes to the Junkyard. If you don't want that PAY YOUR CAR PAYMENT!
Dave R getting money for the big corps for poor workin ppl?! F- Buick aka GM. As a mechanic they, GM makes some of the worst cars in the world! So Pay them say good Christian Dave Ramsey?1 Dude file bankruptcy! it's not as bad as you think! Its your protection under the law, if they threaten to sue you! WOW! Your credit is already bad AKA skewed! GM DID IT so did Chrysler! Big corps do it F-ing daily but hard workin putting food on the table cant?! File chapter 7 or 13 walk away from a bad debt! Just like they did from evil sinful men in bible times! As a mechanic lookin out for a friend who watched this video by modern day Pharisee! Dave R has lost all cred with me!
Typical of someone that does zero research on a vehicle and then is shocked when it fails to perform. I bought a used car when I was 23, Black 2 door leather seats and then a blown engine at 70K miles. I drove it for 6 months and then paid for it for the next three years. The mechanic told me it was a lousy engine and GM stopped making it the following year. But I had no way of researching that in 1981. This guy has every available resource and still owes 17K with 100 thousand miles? He bought an expensive crappy car he couldn't afford. Enclaves start at 40 thousand! How do you justify buying a car that costs more than half of what you earn in a year?

Thank you Dave. I've paid off $42,000 so far following your methods. Got 15K left on my car and I'm pace to be debt free by December 2017.
Enough With Debt .....way to go. Keep it up.
Thank You!
Nicely done!
idiot...debt is good. don't listen to god preaching ramsey....he is evil

Mine has been charged off and Chrysler is not even trying to find the car. I owe 24k on it still. Still waiting on them to come get it.

Circumstances.
A lawsuit by the bank they can demand a deduction from your paycheck to pay what you owe, you'll have no choice but to go bankrupt.
No, he advises against it because they would have sued this guy and pinned him to the wall. You don't pay attention
8k for an engine replacement...that is crazy..3-4k max for entire job. this guy is not to smart.
not only that he got repoed
Literally depends on the engine. There’s is engines that cost twice as much it varies. Unless your a auto expert working in the field then you have no business claiming what it should or shouldn’t cost.
its a zero clearance motor. the timing chain stretched then it jump a few teeth which caused a valve to hit a piston and trashed the motor
Chris Speer Yeah the dude didn't read the manual which I'm sure requires the timing chain to be replaced every 60k miles or something .. he drove it to 100k .... priceless....and now blames everyone for his troubles
no lol a different chris how ever I have had a motor blow the same way .but I was able to fix it my self for 1300.00 it sucks
Why did that guy even bother calling, he had it all figured out on his own.
It will just have the same issue down the road?? NO! You check the maintenance schedule for the car and have the timing belt changed on schedule every time!
Im in the exact same situation 😢 2018 camaro motor failing internally. Owe like 13k and have no cash to offer. Not late yet but idk what to do.
People Never use their Tax returns to offset the Cost of a High Dollar vehicle
$8,000 for an engine! Thats crazy on steroids!
so glad i don't have a car at all sometimes unless i need to get somewhere of course.

R u stupid? You just said u bought a truck for 110,000 that’s worth 37,000? Are you a troll or are you stupid to the 100th power?
It's easy to be judgmental Dave Ramsey when you have money. Plus how many times have you filed for bankruptcy??
my friends I have a question..
my 2014 Jeep Patriot will be the last thing on my snowball, I owe $12,111 on it. I am about $2,000 underwater on it. minimum payments are $323 a month. if you make a salary of $41,000 a year gross , factoring in whatever expenses you have.. how fast do you think you could pay the car off?
with beans and rice, no cable and no fun, and reasonably affordable rent: a year. Maybe a year and a half if your other expenses are high.
That is what I was figuring, the length of time. I appreciate you taking the time to comment
Since when does DR ever worry about a credit score??
He either wants a zero credit score or a good credit score so you can get a 15 year mortgage at some point. If your credit is trash, you'll never get approved. Obviously Dave would want you to pay cash for a house over a mortgage any day.

Captain Quirk- I used to sell insurance and what may have happened is that the agent didn't update the lien holder information, therefore when the policy renewed the lien holder wasn't informed that the collision coverage was dropped.
I paid 8000 for a new engine for my f150 (jaspers) dealer wanted 15k did all the labor myself

Yep.
Get outa Dodge, or in this case, Buick! Well said!
great advice. buy a honda.
or sell it like it is and the new owner can put in the motor

@Justin S. then it will land up at a parts auction and nothing will be left.
The Buick engine is an interference engine.
File chapter 7 and its all gone!
DJ Shawn W so is your credit
@Justin S. yeah but I would prefer to avoid it if at all possible
Wondering how long the process would take from getting repoed to filing for bankruptcy?
Yes 🙌
@@idg693 about 45 to 60 days
Car company doesn't owe you squat if you have over 100,000 miles
Especially if you took care of it to manufacturers maintenance schedule...I just had to replace my well cared-for engine in my Cobalt at 101k...I was NOT happy about that. It kind of makes me wonder why I bothered maintaining it.

Alex Finn the only loan Dave says that is ok is a 15 year mortgage if you can't pay cash.
Do you repo any thing instead of cars
(Boats or bikes)
HOW DO U SELL A CAR WITH NO PINK SLIP?
You don't...or apply for a title.... or if it's old enough, sell to a junkyard
most new engines today are zero clearance so if timing chain/ belt breaks takes out piston and valves lifters some times it messes up the block/ heads IF you look in the back of you OM it will tell you how often you need to change the chain/ belt most are around 75,000 miles or you can just do a web search on you engine Dave was wrong in saying he was running it hard maybe he was but not the only reason it broke AGE IS THE BIGGEST FACTOR
My 2018 Mercedes Benz Engine went out at 50k miles.
There's no way in hell a rebuild Buick engine cost $8,000 dollars to replace, you can buy a 2jz engine and do a rebuild the hole engine with a single garret turbo for $8,000 including with the engine
How's he selling with no pink slip?
Driving my 17 year old Sonata as we speak, and will never buy new !
that engine would be a sob to install .. I don't care if u don't have the correct tools and work area forget it!!!!!
Bro..... go down to pull a part swap the engine.... selling for 9 or 10 pay the difference.
I bet he has been listening to those Debt Management Programs 😂😂😂. Stop making payments so they can repo and try to negotiate a settlement in full. Just get a engine in that stupid Buick and sell it. It will work out way easier that way and way less crap to go through.
Get a chevy. Parts are cheap.
Its the exact same engine as the traverse
Modern GM vehicles = one of the biggest POS vehicles on earth. Stop buying junk! That's why they keep making them. And on top of that, they are OVERPRICED. Brilliant.
this Dave Ramsey guy has obviously never looked into putting a Ferrari engine in his car.
2/25/20....He doesn't need to b/c he has $55 million & can buy a dozen Ferraris at a time---or 1 in every color they make! 🌈 of colors then in his garage just like Jay Leno!
Timing chain every 60k
Lol this dude is silly.
Honest question, if Dave always talks about not needing credit and being able to live good with a zero credit score why he mentions his credit will be destroyed?
You need a good credit score to get a mortgage on a house. So keeping your credit score good is for that not for getting car loans or credit cards. Hope that makes sense.
Use to love Ramsey but he ain't for the people with his ways
why do americans spend so much on their cars!!!! its insane!!! they cant live with out their cars, not just that but they spend fortunes on ...metal on wheels.
Shafir Iqbal for me it's love I love working on my cars and making them fast.
Same reason you spend money on good clothes. Status, comfort and durability.
If you can afford it, sure. You can enjoy whatever luxury if you can afford it.
But taking a loan on one? That's stupid.
8 k come i could see mayne 4k maybe
Jasper is trash on engine rebuilds
From gm
Silly guy lol
