*Fab little car, same colour and trim as my Mk1 (although mine's in pieces!), ran it for years as my daily and took my test in it late '87. Ref the pre-war Austin 7 numbering, back then the 7hp referred to the RAC horsepower rating for taxation purposes, not brake horsepower as was the case with the postwar A40s etc. Sub'd.*

That looks great. Love the wheels and tyres. Just a week away from acquiring a farina, but not an A40. However you’ve really inspired me to look at an A40 as well for a future addition to the fleet . Thanks

8:58 The shot with the boot lid open faded out before we could see if the registration plate drops down as on the early Mini.
BTW the Countryman version had a lift-up rear window, but Innocenti did a true hatchback version of the A40 called the Giardinetta.

Hi Pashakdescilly, I can confirm that the number plate does not drop down as with the mini. I really love that feature on the early minis. Thanks for watching 🙂

Nice cars the A40 were, so much character.

Hi David, I agree they are very characterful. Generally I think with most classics now they feel so special compared to their modern day equivalents. A sensory overload...fuel smell, noise, vibration...but it all goes to putting a big smile on your face!

Hi, I'm interested in how the car is lowered.
Were negative camber trunnions fitted to overcome the extra positive camber created when the suspension is lowered?
I only ask as when I put lowering blocks on mine it had quite a bad effect on the handling and also the steering at higher speeds.

sorry for the delay in replying, its hard for me to say as the lowering was completed before Oscar was purchased, what i can say is he handles well for an old car he can keep up with Liam's MG in the corners so thats a plus. I cannot however compare the car to how it was before the lowering was done. looking underneath it looks like the rear is lowered via lowering blocks on the springs and longer u bolts, the front looks quite stock so i would say this had the torsion bars moved round in their holes to achieve the lower position. I am afraid this is all guess work on my part but hope it helps you out.

@@rustenutsThe A40 Farinas use coil springs for the front suspension, not torsion bars. The only production car of that era that uses torsion bar springing for front suspension was the Minor.

Hi Tony, they don't seem to crop up very often with mods on but if you search on ebay for "austin classic car" there is one in Carlisle at the moment
