Absolutely LOVE that this quilt is not the standard random looking Jelly Roll race quilt. This is going on my “To Do” list! I truly appreciate you and your motivating videos. You are amazing!
I absolutely love Jordan Fabrics you tube channel. I watch your videos all the time. Thank you and Matt for all you do. I have only been quilting for about 10 months and have learned alot from you.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have made several tops of quilts, but I am working with my own scraps. I did the first tops with 2.5" strips from my scraps both for guys that are over 6'2" tall so if they got too long it wouldn't be a problem. Then I was into my 2" scrap strips. I needed two tops but didn't have any idea on how to be sure I wasn't making a super king size top when all I want to make are nap quilts for my son and DIL Neither of which are tall. Now I know how to make the quilts the right size. Thank you. These were supposed to be gifts for Christmas and I am already 4 days late!
Donna... You are my hero for doing all that math! I have never done a jelly roll quilt because, as you stated, I couldn't control the size. I THANK YOU yet again for sharing with us. You are a Quilting Rock Star! :-)
One more note, I appreciate the recommendation in the instructions to alternate direction of sewing (top to bottom, bottom to top) unlike in the video. That can make quite a difference in the outcome.
I could watch you make quilts all day. I'm 57 and have just started quilting and your tutorials are so informative. I'm learning so much from you. Thank you from jules from Australia 🇦🇺
I'm working on this quilt right now and hope to have it finished today maybe, well the quilt top, quilting it will take a while, but since I'm making a king size I plan on taking it to a quilter to get it done on a long arm. I love the batiks so much, and I have a lot of fabric and jelly rolls to use up, so I might use this same pattern and do it in batiks for my second one. This is the best jellyroll race pattern I've ever seen , so thank you, Donna Jordan. I'm going to be so pleased when I finish this!!!!!!!!
Hi. I love how your quilt turned out. I set about making one after I printed your directions. I also watched this video and went with your video instructions to keep the basket of strips next to your machine and sew away. I DID note in the written directions that if they staggers were not right, you could cut some off a strip. It wasn't until my staggers started going up (more than halfway through, which would have been okay). I cut big lengths off to try and fix the lay of the fabric, thinking that once I'd made the correction, everything would now self-correct. It wasn't until I finished (and had to rip seams and try and fix the stagger with what I had) that I realized that your directions must have been made AFTER the video and that we were supposed to cut our 71" strips ahead of time and cut the 2" off of the long strip before cutting the next 71". Now I know why your accent pieces are more more-evenly spaced. My quilt top is okay but, now, I know for when I try it again.
Found this video about 3 weeks after learning about JellyRolls. This is my next up for a very special quilt project! Thank you for such amazing quilting ideas. I haven't really quilted for about 20 years and so much has changed! I'm truly excited all over again to be doing this wonderful craft!
I made one jelly roll race quilt and loved it, but this new way you have figured out is way better. I really like the secondary design, just makes the whole quilt pop and the border adds even more being that it took one of the brighter colors to accent from the quilt. Thanks so much for this video. I see many of these in my future, especially for my children hospital and battered women's and children's projects I have in mind. I think they would be thrilled with these cheerful color pallets and designs!
I love this pattern and have made it once following the old instructions. The resulting quilt had descending accents but with uneven, almost random, spacing. Thank you for the updated version. One thing still confused me as I compared the cover picture on the pattern to what you were doing in the video, until I realized the picture is upside down! Once I turned it around, all became clear. I’m now going to make two more of these for nieces who are graduating from high school. Thank you Donna!!
Love, love this idea....you is a smart lady...thanks so much for sharing you great ideas...would never have thought of this in a million years....so glad you are using quieter machine, now is so much easier to hear you while sewing...thanks again
I do love your videos. You are awfully generous with your patterns as well. I've made an order from your store and it came quickly and I am totally happy with it. You have brought back the joy of quilting to me again. I left it for so long, but I'm back into it again. Thank you so much.
This is really an easy way to do the jelly roll race, and with the accent colors it's even better looking and Not as boring .....love the sizing choices too as I usually make all king sizes, with a few queens thrown in.....thanks again Donna
Donna, this is GENIUS! Beautiful! So much better than managing such long strips, and easier to sew because of being able to sew on the edge instead of two wide pieces as in a normal jelly roll race quilt.
I love watching donna making quilts, I’m going to make one of these today. I’m new to sewing but already made alone star quilt which is suppose to be hard but found it easy thanks to Donna’s excellent tutorials
Wow Donna that is a really super quilt. To be able to do the maths and work out the exact accent placements - genius. That’s really made my day. Thank you for sharing your talents and for the free pattern.
I can never say enough about your videos. Each time I think I have found my favorite quilt so my list is HUGE! LOL This is GORGEOUS and I love the fact that you can choose your size. And that fabric? Stunning! I love batiks. You always out do yourself with the giveaways too and, I for one, appreciate you guys so much for doing that! Making quilts can be expensive and hard to come by for some. I am crossing my fingers! Thank you for another great quilting adventure!!
I've been sewing costumes for myself for almost ten years, and I taught myself how to free motion quilt last year for a cape project, but I've never made a quilt before. I've been binge watching these videos over the past couple of weeks, and I'm really inspired to get into quilting! I'm going to try to make this quilt. I'm excited!
Hi Donna, I made my first 'adjustable size' Jelly Roll Race Junior Jelly Quilt last year for my sister-in-law. It turned out so nice, I am now making a queen size for my niece because she loved the design so much. The design as you said all forms itself. I hope I have chosen the right fabric for this project. Wish I was close to where you are. You are such an inspiration and source of encouragement. Thank you!
Hi Donna, I have been trying to figure out how to make a smaller size jelly roll quilt for quite some time, you just showed me how overcome this challenge, thank you, thank you, thank you, Mercy
I really enjoyed this video. Normally, I'd never think of using a jelly roll as all the ones I've seen I've wanted to toss out so many of the strips. The jelly roll you picked by Hoffman is really very pretty all the way through. The addition of the accent squares added just the right touch of design to make an interesting but uncomplicated pattern. Lovely quilt
Hello Donna, I am just sending you a Line to tell you , that I can not get enough of your videos. Can you make a video of All of your pre-cut fabrics that you & your husband makes up & sell in your store?? I finally got approved of my Disability & now i can afford to order some pre-cut fabrics. Also, add the prices. The only reason why i ask , is i like to see them in a video & maybe if you guys has different fabric cut up in those pre-cuts. If all of that makes sense?? I love , love watching you more so than (( Man sewing & or Missouri star quilt company )) you make videos more in detail. Thanks for all of the help that you give!!!
Love the flexibility of sizing and the ease of assembly. You have a good eye when choosing quilting patterns ~ it does look like water & compliments the vertical design! My favorite batiks are the ones like your quilt backing, like washed water colors. I hope you continue explaining your decision making thought processes with the tutorials because it imparts helpful insight into why a choice or technique is done. Visiting your shop is on my bucket list ~ thank you for another fun tutorial!
Sorry of course after I go back into the website and try again it works. I don’t know what happened but I tried for quite some time to download the pattern unless perhaps there were too many people all trying at the same time. Thank you anyways and I have to tell you this quilt is really nice. I was struggling on what kind of quilt to make my Grandson who goes away for university every year and I believe he would enjoy this quilt to cuddle up with and think of home!!
Donna, your tutorials are exciting, you explain the cutting and sewing of the project wonderfully. My list of projects I want to create gets longer with each new video, but I must say, I think the adjustable jelly roll quilt just jumped to the top! The secondary pattern in this quilt makes it special, thank you for creating such amazing patterns. I appreciate your enthusiasm in each video, you are a natural teacher and appear comfortable in front of the camera, and I enjoy seeing what color nail polish you have on in each video.
I only came on this tutorial today. I liked the idea of jelly roll race quilts but not the sizes they turn out to be. Your quilt looks so amazing Donna !!!!!! This is THE BEST idea for doing them. I like that the strips are vertical too. I have just the jelly roll and accent fabric to make one. Thank you so much for coming up with such a brilliant idea. Quilting hugs from Alison in Australia 😊🥰😎 xxx
Loved the video went to the website unfortunately you do not carry flannel fabrics. A while back I Purchased romantic afternoon flannel by Lisa audit and it’s jelly roll. 100% cotton 40-2 1/2 x44 strips. Didn’t know it was going to be so hard to find the backing and accents and borders. Thank you for the video I will do it once I find the rest of what I need.
I so enjoy your videos! You definitely make quilting fun! Your instructions are so very easy to follow - you don't rush at all! I'm a new quilter, so I am watching your videos over and over again! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm! I certainly entered the contest! A beginner should be able to do this one with no problem!
I love it. What a great way to get the size quilt you really want. Looks like you did a lot of work, yet it is simply sewing strips together. Thank you again for the great free pattern and very well explained video.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I have a couple jellyrolls waiting to become a quilt. Your project is just what they were waiting for. I really appreciate the time you put into creating such wonderful videos for the quilting world.
As others have indicated, this is a terrific version of the Jelly Roll Race. I have exactly one jelly roll that I have been wanting to use but have been looking for that very special pattern to use it with. Well, this is it! Now to pick out three fabrics for the accent squares. Your videos are always so clear and well done. Thanks for all you do. Wish I lived closer to your shop.
I love this, Donna. Thank you so much for showing us how to create wonderful quilts and for the time you devote to doing it. I will definitely be sewing one of these quilts. Thanks again!
I love this quilt. I am making one for my grandson right now and it is coming out very nice. I can see all kinds of possibilities. Thank you Donna your videos are the best.
I made a jelly roll quilt several years ago and measured the length I wanted, but I love the 3 accent fabrics in it. I will have to make another one just for me. Thanks for the idea. :) I love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to do them.
I like this quilt even better than the last one racer jelly roll. Because it's very simple, and the size can be varied in length. Thank You Donna for this video. I'm going to make a few of these.starting with a bunch of flannel with warm and natural batting. backed with flannel. Christmas prints but make the size of strips about 4 -1/2" each so more of the Christmas print can be seen.
Oh, I loved this Jelly Roll Race quilt. I love the vertical look and the accents just adds the right punch! Now to pick out the perfect Jelly Rolls in my colors. Thank you for the free pattern! Love your videos!
This is really proof you are a sewing genius! Thank you for this great update on the racing quilt design, including how to make it any size, details of how you get the design to repeat so symmetrically, the batik you chose, the accent colors too. Easy on the eyes and the back of your throw is lovely too!
Ah! I like that so much more than the other Jelly Roll Race Quilt patterns. I looks organized. I find without your accents it really looks unorganized - a "leftovers quilt" tossed together. I love this so much! Your quilt is full of life. Thank you for sharing again. Darlene Nova Scotia
Thanks!! I’m new at quilting. I tried to do it the other way but something went wrong. I think this seems much easier....hopefully it will be when I sit down and start trying to make it. Yours is BEAUTIFUL!!! You always make such wonderful quilts and you make it look so easy! Maybe I’ll get there before I’m 60....that gives me 9yrs.😜 STAY SAFE!!
I really like this quilt. I love jelly rolls and was looking for something a bit different to do with them. This hits the mark. I also like your idea of folding the strip back against itself to get a more even cut. I tried it and boy does it work!!! Thank you Donna.
Love the idea of adjustable length..I'm thinking using your 70" and a roll and a half should make a double/ queen , what I need. Thank you for the pattern. Love your videos, you explain how to sew very well.
What a great idea you had, Donna! I have a jelly roll here and was waiting for something to catch my eye, this fills the bill. Thank you for your time and talent. 💖
Wow! I have liked the idea of the jelly roll quilts but wasn't wild about sewing that first long, long seam and the whole process. Your drag race version upped my interest a bit. But, today when you said that you preferred vertical quilts, it touched of a connection in my brain and I realized that I much prefer them also. which explains why I love your hanging garden tutorial quilt and the bargello ones. Also the addition of accent fabrics help tie the variety of fabrics together much better and make the quilt more harmonious. Thanks for helping to clarify my choices and for making another excellent video.
I love this pop pattern! I chose this as my first project. I used 5 strips for the accents. I used black based watermark batiks. It turned out beautiful. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I used 40 jelly roll strips, and instead of 3 blocks, I used 5. Turning out beautifully so far, getting ready to sandwich n quilt
This was my first quilt, came out well, even mitered the corners with 3 borders. Had to re-do two of the corners, came out great. Thank you. Love your tutorials. This one and the quilt as you go placemats.
Donna, I have always loved the jelly roll race quilt, but you have made it even better!!! Thank you for taking the time to provide this pattern. I love it!!!
I'm making this one, the strips all need to be the same length to get the diagonal squares to align up. I'm using fabrics from different manufactures, there lengths varied and the diagionals are really winky. My son says he likes it, so it will be okay for now.....Love the idea and the look.
I loved this tutorial. I just finished my second quilt (top) ever using this tutorial and the free pattern from your website. I am delighted with how it turned out. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the tutorial and free pattern! This is exactly what my son was envisioning for his quilt and all I could find were the horizontal rows....maybe it's the Pandemic, but my brain just didn't want to work out how to make them vertical--or rather how to figure out how much extra fabric would be needed. Thanks again!
Thanks. I truly love the speed you achieve with it. But most important to me. Is that I didn't see you have to move threads to the back of the machine between ending one seam and starting another. I find this is what aggravates me the most on my machine. Thanks again for such a speedy response to my question.
I love your videos! Your workspace is so light and airy and I love all the batik prints you use! I find the race quilting fascinating and I might do one at some point. I probably would start with a wall hanging one just to start since I have never quilted before. Thanks for your tutorials since they give so much info. And I am visual and love how you draw stuff on paper for the planning of the quilt and when you figure how much material is required for what size quilt. My queen size bed would probably require 100 by 100 king size quilt due to my extra deep mattress (16 inches) so I have to be serious to even think of a quilt project for that bed! But for now, I like learning from these videos.
I admire your work. Thanks for the video tutorials.💯🙏🔥
Absolutely LOVE that this quilt is not the standard random looking Jelly Roll race quilt. This is going on my “To Do” list! I truly appreciate you and your motivating videos. You are amazing!
Mine also.

I really enjoy your videos in part because you use batiks. I love to hear the Juki letting loose! No other machine sounds as good as a Juki. ❤

Another super way to use up & showcase a jelly roll. You’re a super teacher . Thank you Donna 🤗
I love watching donna making quilts, I’m going to make one of these today. I’m new to sewing but already made alone star quilt which is suppose to be hard but found it easy thanks to Donna’s excellent tutorials
I love your "teaching." You make things logical and easy to follow. Please keep it up.
Wow Donna that is a really super quilt. To be able to do the maths and work out the exact accent placements - genius. That’s really made my day. Thank you for sharing your talents and for the free pattern.
I know you did this pattern 4 yrs ago but I love this vertical design. Looking forward to making this. Thank you for doing the math. 😅
Boy i bet this is s new beginning of an idea for you. Will watch what else comes up for you
Finally! One I think I can actually make! Thanks so much.
Every morning I start with my coffee and watch your videos ! Thank you very much Donna for this beautiful and so easy tutorial.
I've been sewing costumes for myself for almost ten years, and I taught myself how to free motion quilt last year for a cape project, but I've never made a quilt before. There’s nothing more satisfying than to open a brand new Jelly Roll from Jordan Fabrics!
Hi Donna, I have been trying to figure out how to make a smaller size jelly roll quilt for quite some time, you just showed me how overcome this challenge, thank you, thank you, thank you, Mercy
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Very clear steps. Love the ACCENT squares!
I've never been a big fan of jelly roll race quilts, but I love this one. Thank you for coming up with one that is so interesting.
Yes, we will do another store tour and show all the precuts.
Love the flexibility of sizing and the ease of assembly. You have a good eye when choosing quilting patterns ~ it does look like water & compliments the vertical design! I made this quilt today! I was very pleased!!
Nice!
Finally jelly roll race quilt with size options! I love it.. Thank you!!
You are an amazing teacher. I love what you do!

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm! I certainly entered the contest! A beginner should be able to do this one with no problem!
I was thinking of doing this but using my leftover jelly strips it sounds like a great way to clean out my scraps
Your nails are beautiful. I watch your videos everyday. They have are very informative but easy to follow
I love it. What a great way to get the size quilt you really want. Looks like you did a lot of work, yet it is simply sewing strips together. Thank you again for the great free pattern and very well explained video.

Oh, I loved this Jelly Roll Race quilt. I love the vertical look and the accents just adds the right punch! Now to pick out the perfect Jelly Rolls in my colors. Thank you for the free pattern! Love your videos!
This is really proof you are a sewing genius! i like your version of the process much better.
This is the only way I would make a Jelly Roll Race Quilt, VERY nice. You explained it very clearly, thanks!
Going to attempt this quilt for my daughter's Christmas present
Thanks for solving what my mom did not like about the original pattern. I can't wait to forward this to her!
Love this! It eliminates the disorder of the jelly roll race. Thanks, Donna. Love your nails, BTW.
I watch her videos as much for her nails as the quilts.
Ah! I like that so much more than the other Jelly Roll Race Quilt patterns. I looks organized. I find without your accents it really looks unorganized - a "leftovers quilt" tossed together.
I love this so much! Your quilt is full of life. Thank you for sharing again.

Thanks!! I’m new at quilting. I tried to do it the other way but something went wrong. I think this seems much easier....hopefully it will be when I sit down and start trying to make it. Your first video on the jelly roll race got me interested in making one, but I think I like how this turned out even better!
I agree, Donna, the vertical pattern looks better. Thanks for providing that option!
I love this pop pattern! I chose this as my first project. I used 5 strips for the accents. I used black based watermark batiks. It turned out beautiful. Thank you so much!
I like your pinned up. Looks great, .
Best Jelly Roll quilt ever! Thank you for sharing, Donna!
Love the pattern and thank you for the pre-pattern
I love how you designed a jelly roll quilt that we can make in different sizes. Your fabric choice is so nice also.
I think I like the vertical jelly roll race more than horizontal but had never thought of doing it that way. Thank you for another option.
The straight edges will make this faster than the angled jelly roll race quilt. Great job Donna❣
I agree. 💐
I'm making this one, the strips all need to be the same length to get the diagonal squares to align up. I'm using fabrics from different manufactures, there lengths varied and the diagionals are really winky. My son says he likes it, so it will be okay for now.....Love the idea and the look.
I love this thank you , and I love your skirt . From Welsh Mary in Yorkshire UK
Love your pattern and quilt.
Love the simplicity with great looking design. You are so easy to follow Donna. I love the Mom and Pop of all of your stuff.
I loved this tutorial. I just finished my second quilt (top) ever using this tutorial and the free pattern from your website. I am delighted with how it turned out. Thank you!
Loved the quilt, I have pre cut rolls I need to use up but the quilts were too small. What a great way to get the size you want.
Огромное спасибо!!! Все ваши работы меня просто зачаровывают. У вас-золотые руки!!!💖👏👏👏
Fantastic tutorial once again. It is great that there can now be some control over the final size. Many thanks again, Jess
Love you tutorials ! Also like your shirt. 😊
Love the pattern and your explanations, thank you!
What a great tutorial! Many thanks!
You are such an inspiration and never disappoint. Your quilts are excellent and perfect! Keep it coming.
I also do move the threads behind the presser foot before starting, but maybe that is not seen well in the videos.
I have made three of your quilts now, jelly roll race quilt, tea time and baby bargello. So much fun and all a little different.
That quilt is amazing! So simple but looks stunning! Thank you for sharing your talent!
That's an interesting quilt.
I’ve made a couple quilts using this pattern and they came out great. ❤️❤️ You’re a brilliant designer and teacher. Thanks a million 👏
Donna you need to do the pattern called “type it” it’s a really fun one
Nice, beautiful jelly roll quilt! Making it so you can make a fixed size quilt is the greatest! Love your ideas!
