Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer, Spartacus) joins us this week to share the lessons learned and different obstacles she faced pursuing a career acting in Hollywood after growing up in the completely different world of apartheid stricken South Africa.
Lesley attributes her upbringing and environment in South Africa for her edge, strong attitude, and self preservation that’s helped her throughout her career on hit shows like Spartacus and Lucifer.
We also talk about how actors get painted as villains for leaving a series, the importance of fitness in her life, and the self indulgence of mental wellness that some cultures aren’t afforded.

Being able to hear the blended South African and New Zealand accents from Leslie-Ann depending on what words she’s pronouncing is absolutely delightful. This interview is great and she’s such an amazing actress on Lucifer. Much love and respect for her

I loved Lesley-Ann as Naevia in Spartacus and was disappointed when she did not return to the role. She is the reason I watched the first episode of Lucifer which introduced me to the wonderful cast that kept me hooked for 6 glorious seasons.
I could listen to Lesley-Ann all day. her accent is phenomenal

Lucifer one of my favorite shows. Mazikeen was such a badass character. She is the anti-hero who becomes a hero and an alley to Lucifer. Her arc the show was so incredible and just brings so many different layers to her performance.

I loved Lesley ever since seeing her in The Librarians. And she was so wonderful as Maze in Lucifer. I keep forgetting she is not American and the way she just slipped in and out of accents is just wow.

I love Lesley-Ann she's incredibly smart, talented and down to earth. I won the Lucifer season 6 merch from the care like a demon initiative, she did and it came with a cute card too.
Lucifer got me through lockdowns and the anxiety I had being isolated and living alone.

The longer I hear her, the more amazing I think she is!!! And I love that she is only 12 years younger than me. She's a breath of fresh air!!!! No wonder she was wonder as Maze. Can't imagine anyone else playing Maze, but her. I miss Lucifer. Was such a great show. And thank you Netflix for picking it up. Ended so well, it made me cry.

I love this interview so much! I am a huge fan of Spartacus, and I've always felt she was the true Naevia. I don't mean any disrespect to the actress who took over, but that's just my opinion. I feel bad knowing that she doesn't get residuals. I actually just bought the full series on DVD very recently to watch it over again. I love when Michael gets guests who I am a big fan of, which he does very often. This one is high up on the list for me. Thank you Michael for always being so awesome and doing amazing interviews with amazing people! I'll keep listening as long as you are doing this.

Very talented lady. Very sad she left season 2 of Spartacus, she and Manu Bennett had great chemistry and it would have been great to see their relationship progress outside when they are freed/ seeing Leslie take on the action and fight side of things.
being australian & hearing here flip accents from south african to new zealand to australian was hysterical, none of which sound like any accent I've heard her use before & I know her from Lucifer & Spartacus (ah, she moved to New Zealand, explains how she ended up in Spartacus, which I think was filmed in NZ, with a spattering of Aussies & the odd english person). I just knew her interview would be fun & interesting, like her (my friend I watched Lucifer with would marvel at how subtle her acting was & her ability to play a character who would project powerfulness & yet show vulnerability underneath & play multiple emotions counter to what her character was saying/projecting, not a lot of actors can do that effectively and make it look effortless). And yes, watch the NZ Rugby Haka, it's worth experiencing.
Another great one! Lesley-Ann Brandt is so bad ass in Lucifer. Also after listening to so many episodes where you mention magicspoon, had to order some, looking forward to that.

This girl was my favorite character in Lucifer, that intense angry demon who grew a soul.
I've always loved this weird mix of kiwi and south african her unintended comfortable speaking voice has.
I caught Lucifer after all the seasons were up on Netflix and slowly made it though the whole series. Shes such a funny and talented actress I hope she keeps getting a chance to shine. 🤙🏾
I started to watch it late to the game because I heard Tom was going to be on. The first season was pretty boring then all of a sudden it got so good and then I was obsessed! It was so good!! I loved her in Spartacus
Lesley and I do have a few things in common we are both fascinated by accents; while I did not prank call I did use my fake American accent which I was learning at time (hired an american tutor and everything) on people who were code calling me.
For example whenever I got a random call from PPI (payment protection insurance who are random people who code call anyone and tell them that there heard they were involved in a car accident and if they would like to buy insurance) or people who would code call and tell you have won x-amount of money and you need to give them your bank details, your first name, address, etc so they can transfer the money into your account; I use to put on an American accent and try to convince them I was American while holding back the laughter, eventually they would get frustrated and hang up because I was not buying what they were selling and I only used that opportunity on the phone to practice my American accent while literally talking nonsense and in circles.
Loved her in Lucifer like to see more of her in other TV or films.

I write fiction on the side and still dream of one day being the next Ann Rice. Even if it doesn't happen,I won't give up on being an artist as well as a scientist!!!
