Miles Histand I don’t cause while the positive is still connected the negative touches anything metal on the truck or car it will spark. That can cause problems.
It is a very (!) good idea to FIRST unhook the minus both posts! Because if to make a short with your tool between positive and ground - you´ll get why ;-)

Thanks that was helpful to see how the batteries were installed. Bought a used truck with only one battery!
It is from my experience that you remove the negative leads first, not the positive leads. Upon re-installation, start with positive, then negative.
