  • Class 20's were a regular site during the summer months in BR days. Seen here the Derby - Skegness service passing Hubberts Bridge, Thorpe Culvert and at Skegness in 1992.

    Love it. I filmed most of the trips to Skegvegas in the summer of 1992 as well. I used to go out in the morning before l started work, and afterwards to catch them on the way back too. 🙃 👍

    Brings back memories when I was in my childhood in the 70's and 80's going to Skeggness with my Grandparents on the train being hauled by two class 20's Happy days

    I grew up in the East Midlands and I only ever went Skeggeh once. It was a day trip with a friend and his friend's family when I was a kid. It was in a 1950s Ford Pop which has a top speed of about 40mph. With a following wind. In comparison the train of 1960s coaching stock hauled by a couple of goods engines looks fast, luxurious and comfortable. We didn't arrive until mid afternoon and I just cannot remember when we got back. I don't think it was even on the same day!

      Of all the places we got to in the 90s Skeg wasn't one of them alongside Crewe.

    I imagine shutting gates before clearing signals and vice versa keeps you fit

    The funny thing is, the 20s still run on the Jolly Fisherman Tour which goes to Skegness from Tyseley. These tours happen once during the summer holidays so you best catch them on camera!

      I think it must have been the Sony V5000 - Hi8 at that time.

    Apart from the signalman not wearing a hi-viz jacket, nothing has changed to the infrastructure at Hubberts Bridge in 31 years

    Skegness station still looks as depressing as it did in the 90's lol.

    Why are 20s always in pairs? Is it a push pull thing??

    • @royharrison4122
      @royharrison4122  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Terina, Having only one cab, the visibility was restricted running nose first and being only 1000 hourse power engines they were under powered on some jobs, so it became common practice to run them in pairs.
