I feel like Dutch being able to actually STOP her is kind of a character moment for him tho. Shows he isn't just releasing her like an attack dog and that he actually DOES care about civilian casualties, which makes him a saint in Roanapur
if I remember correctly, they specifically state they're just staff for the boat being rented with zero affiliation with the Neo-Nazi's but because Revi's pissed off at the status quo shift in her life with Rook making her question herself, she kills them for essentially being in a bad mood and Dutch is more mad at her unprofessionalism for taking it out on others rather than chewing her out for being a psycho
2:35 is a reference to one of the first mass shooter incidents on a college campus. Where in August 1966, former US Marine Charles Whitman climbed to the top of the University of Texas Clock Tower. Then started shooting at students, faculty, and civilians below from the Clock Tower’s Observation Deck. Long story short, almost 20 people where killed in the span of an hour and a half. This event in particular is what laid the foundation for the formation of the SWAT teams.
It was particularly tragic because Whitman's journals were read after he was shot and killed, and it was learned that he was experiencing some extreme personality changes and aggressive violent compulsions that he attempted to fight back against, but it just got stronger and stronger until he felt compelled to commit the mass shooting. And to make matters worse, during the autopsy, it was discovered that he had a brain tumor that was causing changes in his brain chemistry that took the form of severe mental illness. If he had more thorough medical appointments and examinations, all this death could've been avoided.
I read about that shooting and read that another issue that arose is that none of the firearms (probably .38s) carried by the responding officers on the ground had the range to reach Whitman. He held the 'high ground' since he was firing from the top of a tower.
As much as Revy hates being introspective, reflecting on emotions and feelings, this show seems to love exploring them. Her attitude is…most of the time it’s hyper-violent, sadistically cheerful and loudly aggressive. The rest of the time, she’s withdrawn and bitter almost appearing lifeless. The Lagoon Company has saved her physically, given her opportunity to indulge her violent nature and a living to support herself alongside Lagoon Company. And yet, she’s still a bitter, volatile mess of a human being who treats everyone around like s*** to varying degrees with only Rock being stupid and or nice enough to question her misanthropy and vitriol. Putting it bluntly, Revy is incredibly damn lucky to have been recruited by Lagoon Company, as other outfits like Hotel Moscow would probably be too regulated and professional to tolerate her frequent nastiness. Those three really saved her ass just as she, Dutch and Benny saved Rock, and without them she’d probably be just like Dutch predicted, a psychotic killer shooting college kids like Charles Whitman. And knowing her unrepentant bitchiness, Revy is almost certainly going to die painfully without ever acknowledging it.
This is a pretty cool analysis. It never occured to me to watch her face or analyze her in detail, because the entire concept of being able to gun dozens of people down is deeply in the unrealistic for me, so I never took her character seriously - but what you say makes a certain sense. Certainly, the outro of the episodes implies she'll have a tragic end.

Like for example “shooting badguys” has become such a cartoonish trope in media that has no consequences for actions yet you are literally taking life in such a visceral way that will take a huge toll in morality and emotions. Like I find it so cringe when there are fictional characters (not counting cartoonish settings like Fortnite, etc) that are capable of taking out a bunch of people in combat lethally (I tend to see this among OCs and other more indie stuff) without acknowledging the edgy atmosphere that would give someone ptsd. Revy’s character is just so spot on in the consistency of the narrative

No fancy moves or super speed is needed when your enemies are that useless.

In past and present they’re the protagonist but they’re very bad at playing victim. Even with noble intentions, the villain aesthetic appeals to young men because in films the villains look cooler; Vader looks cooler than Luke, Michael Myers looks cooler than Laurie Strode etc. You have to play to your strengths. The “globalists” have controlled the western world for the past 70 years and have invested tens of billions into conditioning people into thinking that they’re evil for not wanting to be controlled, utilising misinformed guilt and misplaced empathy. The only way to reverse that propaganda would be with 70+ years of work and tens of billions of dollars so it’s not a realistic strategy.
Even at the end of the episode, when Dutch was on the phone with a very racist nazi old man, the latter was saying things like "it's a shame you're black", sincerely wished that Dutch's kind will be one day wiped off the face of the planet and things like that, but n-word was not used. That is a really dumb change. I can't comprehend why they'd chicken out given the subject matter. Maybe they thought it made her unlikable or was too edgy, if so they wiffed the point. It weakens the impact of Dutch's words and the whole arc is building on Revi's bloodlust so when Rock confronts her later it has serious weight. Great adaptation otherwise.
You should watch the show. It is by no means violence porn. I'd call Black Lagoon a deep character study wearing a tee shirt that says "I LOVE GUNS" in impact font. It's a character driven show, and extremely well written. Like how Gundam's giant fighting robots are a backdrop for character moments, so is the violence in Black Lagoon. There isn't a purposeless scene in the show.
This isn't your typical anime, this is seinen for adults so you don't need the hyper flashy stuff. Also this is a love letter to 80s and 90s action movies and supposed to be our actual world with all its limitations. Shounen is what you were expecting and those back then were what they are now, super flashy and hyper manic but with worse cgi.

I’m no expert on the subject, but they certainly put a lot of effort into animating firearms correctly in the show. So maybe there is a shotgun or a shotgun cartridge that would allow him to do that. 🤷🏻♂️
That's not plot armour, that's mediocre directing. This is probably one of the weaker action scenes in the show, the manga version is way more brutal and fast paced.
She had every right to be this mad. But yeah the entire arc is more or less about Revy realizing she's too mad and can't solve everything with guns as Rock says when he confronts her.

You should watch the show. It is by no means violence porn. I'd call Black Lagoon a deep character study wearing a tee shirt that says "I LOVE GUNS" in impact font. It's a character driven show, and extremely well written. Like how Gundam's giant fighting robots are a backdrop for character moments, so is the violence in Black Lagoon. There isn't a purposeless scene in the show.

I’m no expert on the subject, but they certainly put a lot of effort into animating firearms correctly in the show. So maybe there is a shotgun or a shotgun cartridge that would allow him to do that. 🤷🏻♂️
The Plot Armour is strong with revy, they don't even attempt to shoot back properly.
That's not plot armour, that's mediocre directing. This is probably one of the weaker action scenes in the show, the manga version is way more brutal and fast paced.
