If I ogle Michelangelo's Night, it's simply "appreciating art" but if I ogle some polygons in the shape of a women in a video game it's "creepy". It's long overdue that we gamers rise up.
Feel like it needs to be said that Suda was EXECUTIVE director on this game, not the director. He was still burned out from Shadow of the Damned while this game was being made so, much of the game wasn't necessarily his vision, be it good or bad.
I don't really like the new editor, it just feels more clunky and has swapped out the classic channel memes for either irrelevant mma memes or super generic clips with full audio which is a bit jarring and breaks the flow,

For real. Like 80% of edit inserts is MMA references. I love MMA but come on. If the editor is obsessed about a sport he doesn't need to use memes spesific to that sport.
At this point I'm pretty much convinced that Suda 51 just makes games intentionally weird because he knows that's what's expected of him. As a result he will go to whatever whacky extreme he can manage (within reason given he doesn't go beyond an M rating) in order to preemptively give fans what they want. I don't blame him for that, but I do feel some of his work comes out that way for the sake of it, not because it's 100% something he would want to do otherwise. If this is at all the case, I suppose it can't be helped when you're a game creator who is pretty much trademarked as, "The guy with the enjoyably weird, off-the-wall game ideas." My point is that when you're known for a niche form of creativity (be it books, movies, video games, etc.) then it's really hard to break away from that, especially when people expect that kind of work from you and you're successful doing it. That kind of thing isn't always the fault of any one creator or creative team, something that sometimes can be easily forgotten. I'm rambling too much here, but I just wanted to note that while I haven't played all of his games and I don't like every single one of them that come out, I can still respect Suda's creativity and overall talents, but I guess I'm not quite as taken by his work as I was at one time. That's not meant to reflect badly on him and of the games he has made that I've played I do actually like or at least like parts of. I suppose what I'm getting at is that his formula feels a little more old hat than it did back when he was just gaining a reputation. Side-Note: Another couple of game creators that tend to make whacky content that I also enjoy are Yoko Taro (Drakengard and Nier game series.) and SWERY65 (of Deadly Premonition fame/infamy.) I'm sure most people know these two examples by name and for their work by now, but just in case some haven't, I recommend giving at least some of their work a shot if you like games that have unique and/or strange aspects to them.
