1 of only 217 Z code 401s made. This one is a knock out! Stunning looks and real muscle car performance. I love the unique lines. Look at how the front fenders bulge up over the tires. It has a raised cowl hood, sloped roof line and duck tail spoiler. I drove this car home and took it cruising. It runs strong, handled tight and functioned great.
EXTERIOR: Mirror finish on a pristine body! Painted over 20 years ago which really is a testament to how good the quality is. I bought this car from a collector that is a body man by trade, he knows what to look for. He spent 25 hours wet sanding with 3000 grit paper and buffing it to the mirror reflection you see now. This car was born a black car, the original trim tag is in the door jamb. The vinyl top is mint, chrome is real nice, windshield is clear. The door jambs are painted slick. Polished 17 inch Torque Thrust wheels have Nitto Extreme ZR performance tires, fatter in back.
INTERIOR: Very cool, the interior is just as unique as the outside. Thank god it's in mint condition because I'm sure some of these parts would be hard to locate. The dash pad is mint. The instrument panel has a machine turned panel outlined in red and a full set of gauges. It has factory tachometer and quartz movement clock. The cushion grip sport wheel is on a tilt column. The Domino pattern seats are in pristine shape, the cushions feel like new. The carpet looks new. The door panels are all mint. Excellent headliner, interior lights work. The, levers, heater controls, switches are excellent. The center console and floor shifter are in excellent shape.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Rare 401 motor and this one has a performance build that launches thus little car. It has 401 cast right on the block. It has a wild cam, aluminum intake with a dual feed Holley carb and coated headers. It also has an MSD ignition system. Features include power steering and power brakes. It has an external vacuum pump because of the performance cam. Every thing is clean and proper.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Dry clean metal that has been spatter painted. Under the trunk lid and jamb are slick paint, weatherstrip is like new. There is a functional CD changer.
UNDERSIDE: The front end looks like it's been all rebuilt- new bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends etc. In back is air shocks and traction bars. It has a Flowmaster dual exhaust system. Disc brakes in front, e-brake assembly is still hooked up. The bottom of the motor looks spotless, has a high torque starter. Correct 727 Torqueflite automatic has an aluminum pan. The rear end also has an aluminum finned cover. The floors and frame rails are rock solid under this car.
How often have you seen one? Even if you have they aren't like this one. I'm around collector cars every single day and this one stands out. It's not just different, it's very cool too!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
**These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded and you will be given a 1 year membership.

This man has one of the best jobs in the world!👍🏽
Not wrong! 😎👍
I told him the same thing, wouldn't that be the greatest to drive and purchase these beautiful iconic cars.
I had a black 1974 AMX like that when I was 18, boy does that bring back memories. I wish I could’ve bought that to put in the garage and just look at it and take it the car shows. That definitely deserves to be in a museum, I don’t think I’ve seen a more original AMX that’s in perfect condition then this one.
That is a gorgeous car. I wish I'd seen this a few months ago. The interior was probably the best Javelin interior I've seen.
I have driven a '72 Javelin and what struck me about it was how it could look larger in pictures and certain angles but was actually very compact to sit in and drive. Very sporty and was similar in feel to a '74 Corvette that I raced. Very beautiful cars. I have always wanted one.
Just pristine. Rare in the day - rare now. A fine fine example. Thank you for sharing. Guarantee you this would run with anything in '74...
Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
3 years later.... I used to beat my bud's Javelin with my '74 'Cuda and it only had a 360 4 barrel, Javelin 400 c.i. but both had 235 HP, Javelin might've weighed a bit more?. Our other bud's SD 455 Trans Am (290 HP) could beat us both - and it was a '74 too. '74's were hampered by the new pollution rules. Gas was about 35¢ and I got 7MPG in the 'Cuda if I was having fun, 15 MPG on the highway with a wind behind doing no more than 55. The stupid old days. Good looking cars but man they were stupid - couldn't turn or stop for sh*t. Even as a Mopar guy I always liked that wide body Jav though - my bud's was a maroon red and my Cuda was a metallic dark red ....🚗
Stunning car...love the uniqueness of the design yet capturing trends of other cool cars of the period
Very cool stuff wish that I could drive again being a now stroke and cardiac arrest and colon cancer survivor not allowed to drive anymore, which kind of sucks because I actually miss getting behind the wheel of my own car and love the older cars from the 50's-80's.
That was one of my all time favorites.. Just badass 😎 She sold quick .. Congrats to the new owner .
Thanks 👍
That's an Absolute 💯 beauty , stunning AMC Javeline 🖤 🖤 🖤
I don't think I've ever seen one with a vinyl roof, looks fantastic with the roof. I like the 74 better than the 70!
I had a 71 with the split vynil roof, kick myself everyday for selling that car.
Vinyl roofs were very popular in the 70s.
Don’t like them at all. Personal preference but it looks so much straighter and cleaner without.
I think I just found my new favorite Car. WOW! It just screams horsepower and speed.
I had a 1974 AMC Javin( Paid I think $500.00 back in the 80's
With headers & 401 C.I.D. White ..miss that car 😊👍I was fixing it up ..some guy hit it slammed it into the curb.. 😒
I had a friend who had a 1973 Javelin I believe, it was a deep purple color, just a beautiful car, you don't see to many like these puppy's around so we got a lot of look key leu's as we drove by, just a fast wonderful good looking car, haven't since one on the rode since, but your car here brought back some great memories of the 70's, if I could I'd buy yours. Thank You Sir. THE SARGE
ive always loved the 1972 AMC Javelin SST of all the last gen Javelins...tbh
I had a ‘72 Javelin SST in red, Holley carb etc!
Very nice AMC 1974 javelin black beauty thanks jay
My first car was a 73 AMX with the 401 4 speed that I bought in 77. Had black vinyl top over blue metallic paint. Sure wish I still had it.
Of 217 cars made in '74 with the 401 cu. in. motor, I have the feeling this is the ONLY one remaining. Nice car! I just went to check the price and I'm also not surprised it has been sold already. Good move Mr. Customer. Best of luck with it...
Thanks Will! 👍
Actually my friend i have a 74 with a 401 also . There are atleast 2 of them lol
One of the coolest body styles made. The performance could not keep up with the competition at the time. As Jay stated this one is not like most of them. Very nice 👌
I had a 73 with a 401 4 speed. 455 firebirds and 390 Mustangs couldn't stay up with it...yes it was stock.
I agree and disagree. Unlike Pontiac which paid a licensing fee to the SCCA to use the Trans Am name, AMC won three Trans Am Championships. Couldn't keep up? Tell that to Rufus Parnell Jones, he'd tell you differently.
AMC did not have a 427 nor a Hemi, but they had great power and performance in the range of cars most folks bought. Indeed, when Wally Booth was racing for AMC, he used a modified AMC passenger car engine. The great "Dyno Don" Nicholson installed a SOHC 427 Ford engine in a Maverick to race in the same class. Weights were adjusted, of course, and Nicholson was one of the best, but Ford never put that engine in a car let alone a Maverick. Horses for courses.
One of the things that plagued AMC in sales was its success in building a reputation with pink six cylinder Ramblers. After that success, some thought all they made were pink six cylinder cars! 😁
Couldn't disagree more - AMC performance was just fine.
Hi Jay. Well , this was a very popular feature and it' s no surprise ! I 've always had a soft spot for these rare and much sought after cars. And it's sold ! I prefer the first generation model but this still retains the uniqueness of the original and goes like a scolded cat to boot ! Thanks Jay.
The coolest car for a high school senior car, in 1981 I graduated from high school and I had a 1974 amx Javlin with a 401 4 speed, I know that car inside and out, that's perfect, I would love to take that car for a great joy ride, too cool.
Wow she a beautiful that for sure. Thanks for sharing 😎👍
No problem 👍
I had the Same Car, the Amx with White Stripe down the Hood.Had the 304 Automatic.Miss that Car..
Who in their right mind would give this a thumbs down there’s something seriously wrong with that boy
Agreed! 😜
Still AMC haters out there all these years later...sheeeesh. 《🙄》
Two years late to this video (I’ve been binging since I discovered your enterprise!), what an absolute gem. Do you remember what your listing price was? I’m in Ohio and I’m definitely going to travel to see your museum next Spring! Thanks! 👍👍👍
Very nice looks much better than the puky lite blue one i saw
Quick car, nice handling around corners and a good drifter, for only having 255 horse power fast car, fun car
Contemporary small discs in the front and small drums in the rear, or AMC Police Package items? Fun fact: you can buy 400+ hp AMC crate motors. This car has a 727. Get the idea?
I know where one of these are as we speak. The guy used to have 2 or 3 of these back in the day, bit now he has only one that's been sitting behind his house for years now for whatever reason. Cool.car Jay!
Very nice car.
Cool car & rare!
I would go to Keystone classic with black insert. Nice AMC.🤔🦅
Gorgeous car. Then, in 1975, AMC decided to drop the Javelin, the AMX (by then the top Javelin trim), and the Ambassador. That is, they decided to drop three series names which had meaning in the marketplace. Many buyers knew little about AMC cars and what they thought they knew was often wrong. So, the marketing types decided to take three names which people did know, and which had some credibility with buyers, to ask instead "What's a Matador?"
A cosmetically modified Hornet hatchback (see the 77 AMX) would have sold in limited quantities as a Javelin with an AMX package offered. (This at a time when Chrysler bailed on the Barracuda and Challenger and Ford downsized the Mustang to Pinto proportions) The 75 and later Matador sedans and wagons, trimmed as Ambassadors, would have kept that long time "top of the line" nameplate in service. So, what's a Matador? The coupe.
Great cars. Not always marketed cleverly.
Well stated. Thank you.
Would look better with the factory 15" rallies, only year, friend had a black 74 when we went to auto trade school, loved it.
I need to get a quote on this vehicle.
Awesome car 🚗
Yep, one of a kind!👍🏽
I love this car 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
Just curious how much that 74 Javelin sold for?
When you drive 71 thru 74 AMXs in ty rain you get a puddle of water right in the middle of the rear windshield. Should have never sold mine.
Not a Big Block. All AMC V8 engines after 1967 had the same exterior dimensions, 290ci thru 401ci.
It’s probably gone ! How much was it . I bet at least 100 grand . Love it
my dream car!!
Is it sold ?
My first new car was a 1974 AMK, burnt orange.
Very Nice!
Hi Jay. Rare, fantastic car. One request. Please show the underside and engine closeups rather than the tiny inserts. I suspect me and others can't see them but could before. Thanks!
We insert a handful of the undercarriage pictures at the start, more are available on our direct website. As for engine b-roll, we can try to make them a bit slower/longer.
Sold already..... ☹️
That is a bitchen sob of a car!
Congratulations to the lucky new owner.....
Love this car, a shame this add is 2 years ago !!!
there should also be 2 1/4 inch cross brace rods infront of the radiator too
top of AMX rear bumperr has black out strip missing
I have one ., a 73 ,. SST 304 .,.,., had since 94
I watch a bunch of dealer channels and none of them have the quality of cars that you bring to your showroom.
Thanks Jamie, really appreciate that! 👍
My grandfather was a NASH RAMBLER man, and the Javelin was my mother's first love, and mine too as a child before I ever knew what a Camero or Mustang was. Always wanted one, but when I became driving age I could never find one. This was back when you could find nice Cameros and Mustangs and other great cars for under $1000. AMC designers struck gold with that body. If I could have 2 muscle cars, they would be a Javelin, and a Challenger or Charger. It would be nice if Dodge could do a retro AMX based on the Javelin body.
Hard finding these cars in the 80s I only found 2 in decent shape most were beaten to hell by then
Inside looks like a gourgeus english sportscar
Not a big block but a bloody beauty
Yes, not a big block. Big(ish) on the cubic inches, but not a. big block.
Sadly, the AMC Javelin would not make any money for AMC. Only the 68 and 69 Javelin's made some profit, if at all for AMC. The 71 restyle cost AMC money, as sales of the Javelin were only 26,866 for 1971, with a break even of 35,000 in sales. AMC should have stayed with the 1970 Javelin build, and saved precious money. The 1970 Javelin was a very aggressive looking car of the day, and could have been a great platform to stay with. An AMX version of the 70 Javelin for 1971 could have been just what people might have went with, air dams and spoilers. With the 401 engine, in a lighter car, it would have been a killer, sadly we'll never know. The early Javelin had much going for it in SST trim, tac on an AMX option, and one has a beast of a car of the day.
I must have missed something.
How much did it sell for?
For the privacy of the new owner, we do not feel it is our place to share what they paid after its theirs.
Una joya...
those rear bumperettes , big rubber bumper guards are 73 .,., not 74 .,., 74 were bigger .,.,.
Price
Love this car. If I had $40-50K, could I acquire one of these?
I would say definitely. 😉
@@VoloMuseumAutoSales Not trying to pin you down, did this featured car, which was awesome, go over $50K? OK if you don't want to divulge. I want a clean, restored and ready to drive. Not a speed demon so the 401 is nice but too tempting! I just punted a 1961 Impala Conv on BAT. Car was magnificent.
@@Bosstubeman sorry man, he said he wasn’t going to talk about how much it sold for under another comment. If your looking at buying a amc javelin though, you can find them for pretty cheap. I’ve been looking at a 1974 javelin project for 5k that runs and drives and has very little rust. If you want an amx though there a bit more expensive and harder to find
Well,,,,,,that didn’t last long! 😜
Sure didn't!
THE REAR SPOILER RUINS THE CAR. BACK IN THE DAY WHEN MY MON HAD HER 70 BOSS 302, HER CO WORKER WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A 401 JAVELIN. I WAS 12 AT THE TIME WHEN SHE BOUGHT IT IN 74. SHE LIKED THE JAVELIN, AND IT'S DRESSY INTERIOR. THAT AND SHE KNEW FROM EXPERIENCE THAT THE 401 RAN STRONG AS SHE ALMOST BOUGHT A 401 AMBASSADOR BEFORE SHE BOUGHT THE BOSS MUSTANG. SHE TRIED LIKE HELL TO SELL ME ON THE JAVELIN, & I WAS HAVING NON OF IT. BOY I PUT MY FOOT DOWN. WE LL HER AND HER CO WORKER WENT BACK AND FOURTH AS TO WHO HAD THE HOTTER CAR. WELL THEY FINALLY RACED AND MOM GOT HIM, WITH A WITNESS IN MY MOMS CAR AS WELL. SHE TRADED THE BOSS OFF TO A 72 4X4 SCOUT THAT A FRIEND HAD. SHE SOLD THE SCOUT AND MADE ABOUT 40% PROFIT. HE DISCONNECTED THE REV LIMITER AND BLEW IT UP RACING IT. MY MOM, HER FRIEND A PREVIOUS BOSS OWNER AND I SAW THE BOSS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AROUND THE CORNER FROM HANKS BAR NEAR LUKE AFB. WE ROLLED UP ON IT. GOT OUT AND HEAR COMES MIKE, STILL DRUNK FROM THE BAR SOBBING. MY MOM AND HER FRIEND CHEWED HIM OUT. HIS MECHANIC FRIEND FROM LUKE AFB REBUILT IT FOR HIM. HE BUILT IT UP QUITE NICE. MUCH MORE TORQUE.
If you know so much about cars you would know that there is no such thing as a big block amc. They all were small blocks sharing the same dimensions.
😎
My '69 A M X has a 390 4-speed
Right on! 😎👍
Wow wow what a batmobile 🦇 father Mouse drives to church, in this gourgeus car, to wed Bruce Wayne and Selina kyle, thanks Jay grams 🤩,, 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
The Dark Knight would be proud to have this baby in the bat cave, that's for sure.
@@travisbickle3797 indeed absolutly stunning 🦇 🦇 batmobile so awsome 🎶 music from the big v8 motor powerfull 😎 😊
I don't know why they just don't say the price of the car it's of you being forced to call it's so dumb
theres 3 stickers should be in the trunk .,.,
👍🏻💯🇦🇺
Had a 71. Kick myself for selling it everytime I see another one
Rare car, we haven't seen a 71 for a few years!! 😮

Could use some new tires.
This belongs to me, not you. I'm buying it because it looks better in my driveway and not yours. Go find you a corvette
Beautiful car but no a/c
Yeah, no air in Az. Doesn’t work for me. 😢
You can always rely on Bert to comment on a car without a/c....
@@VoloMuseumAutoSales Gearbox Geek found it helpful👍
@@VoloMuseumAutoSales Bert needs a new sentra. Who drives these in 110 deg heat anyways?
Or tell cheap bert to spend a couple grand on vintage ac.
no such thing as 401 big block. all their blocks were the same size
Theoretically yes, all blocks same size-no big block. However, starting in 1970 the blocks were in fact a little taller, don’t recall the measurement right now but it was minimal & not really visually noticeable
Too bad it’s sold
Why too bad?
It comes with a lawyer?
No hablo ingles solo italy or spanish
tenemos a alguien que puede hablar / escribir español

He said 69 Camaro big block.....lol
I didn't find where he said "69 Camaro big block". I corrected when he said the wrong year when referring to another AMC but musta missed this Camaro part? 🤔
He said it's not a 69 comaro big block
..да уж тачка, красота такой фирмы уже нет а продукцыя её стоит не малых денег.
