I'll never forget when a buddy asked me, at LEAST 5 years ago to come to a show he was putting on at his Bilingual, -500 student high school. I asked him who's playing; "Alexisonfire.. They're pretty good man." I shoulda' listened... Welp, I'm an idiot.
I do not leave comments very often but alexisonfire really fucking changed my life. The greatest band I've never seen live. This song has gotten me through a lot of shit. When you listen to it over and over the notes, the patterns, the voices all coincide and have a purpose for the song's overall theme. It's perfect.
I love how powerful AOF music can be... George & Dallas complement each other so nicely with Wade adding himself in. How awesome are they? From Drums to Guitars to Vocals to Lyrics to Performances to Fans they are the best band ever.
It's astounding when you realize how much this band has matured since they began. I love it. George's screams have that perfect roughness without overdoing it, and I can't say anything more about Dallas that hasn't already been said lmao. I'm glad wade has moved into the picture as well. Just awesome, so awesome. One of my favorites bands for the last 8 years.
This album came out during a very dark time in my life with this song being the "main theme" of it all. I think it's healthy to revisit those kinds of feelings every once in a while because it allows you to make peace with them.
Everything about this music video is just so bad ass. The cinematography is phenomenal, and how George descending the hill on the line "He comes, He comes." A lot of people are saying that the song would be better without George's vocals, but I think it adds a lot of contrast to it, and it breaks up the song. Otherwise we'd get 4:38 of Dallas singing the same lines with the same vocal pattern. That'd be boring! The fact that he brings crusty Casualties vocals and his old screaming in this song shows how experimental he was getting with his vocals, and I appreciate that so much more than hearing the same thing over and over. But hey, it's my opinion. Feel free to convince me otherwise.
have you ever hear the acoustic version it's amazing it's just dallas and wade and wade does george's part and he actually has a nice raspy voice...i think they should of had him do george's part in the real version two...still a sick song tho
Deafinantly one of the greatest Canadian bands I have heard & love to listen to. Sad to say they're finished. Never had the pleasure to see them live. Non the less, their music lives on to amaze people who still listen. Best of luck to the band members in their futures.
The song is about slavery and referencing an old slave hymn, called Roll Jordan, Roll. There is a reason why it is called the northern (north = freedom), and the song would basically be from the standpoint of a slave cursing his oppressors (God = judge). The video is a bit strange though, and that could make it a bit more confusing, but it isn't actually about religion at all. It is definitely a theme, but isn't directly about religion. The hymn also has significant importance to the development of jazz (which later lead to rock n roll).
My understanding of it is essentially slaves cursing their (for lack of a better word) masters. So religion is a part of it obviously, but that isn't what the main focus of the song is. Honestly, the music video is very confusing, and the main reason I would say it is more about slaves is because of the roll jordan line (which makes you look at the rest of the song a little differently).
I'm sad to say that the Big albino Boa in this video passed away today at the age of 10. Aneth was a very unique creature, she has taught many people to no longer fear snakes, She has been held by the smallest of Children, and as far as snakes go, touched the heart of many. RIP Aneth xo
You know, always see people bashing religion and all, but here is a point, and read this, and then, re-read it so that you fully grasp and understand my statement before posting an idiotic response. Now, most people claim to be against religion, and don't believe in god.... Etc. etc... Point is, if you are one of thise people, why does it bother you soooo much and drive you sooo insane that other people do believe in something? Hear me out, because the internet is full of trolls, kids, and people wih entirely too much time on their hands. If you truly do not believe in something, or dont want to be involved that is your choice, just like it is mine to believe in something. So please people, why not just move on to something instead of bashing someone or throwing a little 12 year old fit because someone does not believe what you do? Enjoy life how you want, it is your choice. Thanks for reading.
You're missing the point entirely. We don't have a problem with you believing in something. You can believe absolutely whatever you want. What we have a problem with is you forcing it on us, or indoctrinating children or waging wars in your God's name, or throwing your God-logic (lack therof, more aptly) into scientific forums. We don't have problem with you believing in God. We have a problem with you believing God wants you to preach to us, hate homosexuals and disallow women personal freedoms.
LOl @ you bro...just LOL. no one forces anything on you. God gave everyone one a free will. and the simple fact that you wasted your time reading my comment, and posted your own, simply PROVES my statement correct sir. thanks, have a nice day.
LOL...you got draged to church? ok so that doesnt mean someone forced religion on you, that means you were raised in a christian home, and under your parents roof you do as your told, as per the way of living since the beginning, lmmfao. and secondly kiddo, and listen good....if you do not like the christian standards, and you dont want your children fighting for this country...and here it is so pay attention, LEAVE AMERICA. then go cry on the internet. americans have the RIGHT to have FREEDOM! go to another country and you will see what having a religion FORCED on you really is pumpkin. and ....heres the best part...QUOTE ME ON WHAT I JUST SAID! now...think of something else stupid to reply to mke, i know tyou will....you people with no life on the internet ALWAYS have something else tosay. lmmfao. g'day
I don't have time to bullet-point the amount of fail and hypocrisy in that. But in short, I have "no life" because I reply to your rambling, backwards, self-insistent diatribe, yet you seem to have the time to come back and type out a longer reply than mine, needing twice as many words to apparently say nothing. And that last reply of yours pretty much solidified that you have no logical argumentative ground to stand on. You speak with this tone of lofty condescension and enlightenment as if you are thoroughly researched in your conclusions and we're all just idiots, but the reality is your attitude is merely a paper scaffold to prop up and lend faux credibility to talking points that are the same as those possessed by my uneducated relatives. I can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into, so have a good one, chief.
lol, you failed yourself by even attempting to rant on a comment that had nothing to do with you "hard struggle of a life" because someone once told you about GOD, or excuse me, :forced " god into your poor ears. LMMFAO, i am done with you.
born and raised in the northern and then passing out in america i'm still a young cardinal with rough hands that are grey and soaked with dogs blood caused by accidents. but hey this could be anywhere in the world. we will all miss alexisonfire
Searching for the meaning of this song, I came up with my own, I think it's about how religion strikes fear in our hearts of the coming Last Judgment and therefore we praise the Lord because we fear the last judgment. The worship just keeps going and doesn't see an end kinda like the Jordan river... It keeps rolling and rolling.
Serious. This is what I miss most. The shredding guitars... the roughness of George... the haunting echoes of Dallas. Bass and drums are always perfect. Nothing can ever replace Alexis... just... too good.
I have a few friends in th U.S. that really like this kind of music and have never heard of Alexisonfire! i played this song for them and they were blown away. There is so much great Canadian music being written that isnt getting exposure outside of Canada.
1:31 ....those voices together....absolutely amazing. There will never be another band in this genre (or whatever you'd like to call it) that can do it like AOF could.
Really sucks not getting to see them show up to Buffalo, NY during one of the last tours, I wanted to see them very badly and couldnt make the shows in Canada.
Such a badass track. Whether you listen to it as an (new) old field hymn, a song about how faith can help you through hard times, a song about how misplaced faith can cause/worsen hard times, or some combination thereof, it works perfectly...
Yeah they are.. Tickets went on sale in August, I'm pretty sure they're sold out by now. theonlybandeverdotcom is AOF's website, you can get tickets there if there is any left.
There voices, That drum, That guitar, That everything, That perfection yes Dallas, Hallelujah, I'm so glad to say, There from Canada :) . I'm going to miss them though :c But City and Colour is also wonderful :)
The lead vocals, the guy who is not screaming..his name is Dallas Green. He is the only singer in another band called City and Color. He has some great songs, so perhaps you all should check out his band, instead of complaining about this one, both are awesome in my opinion.
This is one of the most powerful videos, ever. Only Alexisonfire could bring up so much emotion about a topic such as this. I sincerly hope they rise form their ashes one day
Dallas: "He comes he comes.."
George arrives, grabs the mic and start delivering!
Exactly!!!!
I'll never forget when a buddy asked me, at LEAST 5 years ago to come to a show he was putting on at his Bilingual, -500 student high school. I asked him who's playing;

I will never understand why alot of people don't like this album. It's my favorite.
I love how powerful AOF music can be...
George & Dallas complement each other so nicely with Wade adding himself in. How awesome are they? From Drums to Guitars to Vocals to Lyrics to Performances to Fans they are the best band ever.
The only comment ever!
How come the highest rated comments aren't about how awesome this song is?!
...this song rocks!
I love the drumming in this song
I love everything in this great song
It's fkn fantastic
I love Hastings' creativity. He was such a perfect addition to the band when Jesse left.

Alexisonfire is the best 🤘 but you just hear “Whispering Wolf” 🐺 by SLT 🔥🎸🎧🎶🥁!!! 💥
i was actullay surprised when i saw them live, they are almost exactly like this live, so amazing to see
and they do 12 years later as well!
100% seen them open for a7x and they honestly stole the show away from them.
if you look into the background of the song, it's an old hymn that the slaves used to sing back in the 1800's in the southern US.
*I miss 2010 so much...*
Alexisonfire is the best 🤘 but you just hear “Whispering Wolf” 🐺 by SLT 🔥🎸🎧🎶🥁!!! 💥
i could listen to dallas green sing " hallelujah, we'll praise the lord
hallelujah, hallelujah" in a church anyday
his voice is amazing
❤️ still listening to this amazing album in 2022
Alexisonfire is the best 🤘 but you just hear “Whispering Wolf” 🐺 by SLT 🔥🎸🎧🎶🥁!!! 💥

This band is so great, but brings back bad memories :P, but still I just wanted to listen to them bc they are too good to forget lol
i agree 100%

I actually like both versions! I agree that George's vocals add the heaviness to it, but Dallas; voice is so amazing. This video is definitely badass.
yup Canadians rock literally. looking forward to the new generation of Canadian artists
i miss these guys so much
+Trucmush Machin It's your lucky day! They're getting back together!
i love everybody, every nation, every race! Peace and love you guys, its not too difficult !
Deafinantly one of the greatest Canadian bands I have heard & love to listen to. Sad to say they're finished. Never had the pleasure to see them live. Non the less, their music lives on to amaze people who still listen. Best of luck to the band members in their futures.
As Canadians we rise as heroes nd keep the rock n roll on top
Btw just discovered this band, not too shabby.
...ok they still have albums....did you want a cookie for that comment or something?
Sealsds I want a cookie! Chocolate chip please.
Gotcha, but how bout macadamia instead?
Never too late!
***** they will play this summer at the heavy montreal :D
Dallas has the voice of an angel. He is the only reason I listen to Alexis.
My favorite from the band
Me too, by far their best song
I’m back 12 years later after seeing they are playing aftershock. And I love it.
Alexisonfire is the best 🤘 but you just hear “Whispering Wolf” 🐺 by SLT 🔥🎸🎧🎶🥁!!! 💥

or it might be both? haha
perhaps he is calling the highly religious slaves..
I think you're right. in 12 Years they sing the very song I think Dallas says they ended up getting inspired to write this song.
ALEXISONFIRE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
Alexisonfire is the best 🤘 but you just hear “Whispering Wolf” 🐺 by SLT 🔥🎸🎧🎶🥁!!! 💥
temazoo videazo
I have always loved this song and the music video, it's so underrated.

I'm from the U.S.A. and Dallas Green makes me wish I was born Canadian.
Serious. This is what I miss most. The shredding guitars... the roughness of George... the haunting echoes of Dallas. Bass and drums are always perfect. Nothing can ever replace Alexis... just... too good.
that echo of "Roll Jordan" is great.
Can't stop listening to this song
Love the way the big fella just rolls on down and starts getting it going...
George is the man!
i respect this band for the music they used to make.
I have a few friends in th U.S. that really like this kind of music and have never heard of Alexisonfire! i played this song for them and they were blown away. There is so much great Canadian music being written that isnt getting exposure outside of Canada.
I'm going to listen to all their albums back to back tonight.
