My intension is ALWAYS love. I always want them to be happy. Parenting is so hard. It’s harder when they’re a teen. Sorry young parents haha. Ugh. They’re so beautiful though. Life is incredible

I can’t tell you how much this video means to me right now. I needed to hear all of this. I am a good mom and I’m not perfect. I will not project my childhood trauma onto them. I tend to do that subconsciously and I don’t mean to. I only want them to be happy, healthy and loving human beings. Thanks for this.

As a high school teacher but do not have a good teenage years this helped me understand how to build a relationship with my students. I was raised traditional but my peers weren't and now as an adult I am shutting my parents in order to care for my bruised teen at heart. I needed that to be healthy.

I do all of this, but I can't get my son to stop using his computer and phone, I don't have the support of this father to stop using his electronics. He got physical with me today and he keeps on calling me names and being disrespectful plus saying I don't care.

Love this gentle, slow paced video. Also love the background music , the way it is broken down to a few points and length. This is particularly helpful as I have autism and adhd.
Parenting is stressful, this video made me feel valued for my efforts to improve, understood and motivated because the tips are easy to apply.
Thanks Coach M, you have a new subscriber :-)

To the speaker, we need examples from the 5 points. Such as what is a nonjudgmental question? Give an example 😊

This sure sounds good. I tried so hard to reach out. I’ve asked for brutal honesty and not worry about what they think I might feel. I try to validate my teenage daughters feelings. I try coaching about situations that I have experienced that are similar to theirs and how I approached them even when it was the wrong move. The thing I run across is she’s angry. Angry about her situations, angry about the consequences she’s had because she got suspended for fighting at school. Then comes the blame game. Blame everyone, blame the other person, blame God, blame whoever. She’s been angry for a long time and it’s coming to the point where I’m not sure she remembers a time when she wasn’t angry. That anger has become a place of comfort. I just keep trying and hoping. I see a lot of myself in her cause I was the same way when I was young. Putting these tips into action has been the biggest challenge. I love my daughter and that doesn’t afford me the luxury of no longer trying. Everyone knows however that with life comes decisions and decisions have consequences both good and bad.

I appreciate your comment and your struggle. It definitely sounds like your daughter's anger has become her coping default....and she is getting what we call a "secondary gain" from it. Not sure if she's open to therapy or coaching, either by herself or together with you. Just a suggestion to ask her and see her thoughts, but in the meantime, I can send you some tools that can help with the dialog and communication with her, if you're interested. Just send me an email at coachm@shiftthespace.com.

Please coach can you send me some of those tools too. My son is sinking deep into gaming to the extent he just prefers to stay indoors, stop going to classes and almost at point of crashing out of university. He’s 21 now, but watching your videos , I can see my parenting mistakes. At this point, he’s not doing anything else except food , sleep and gaming .
