Except that isn't "a little snow" the whole region has been dealing with, that's a few centimeters of ice everywhere because we got the snow in batches, and after the first batch, it warmed up before drastically dropping to freezing temps literally overnight. And this is part of a cold front hitting about 85% of the continental US. Even California and Florida are hitting record lows.
And this doesn’t happen every year? Why not get out their with a small drilling rig and do what I said …! It only takes a couple of degrees of heating to melt snow as it compacts by people walking on it ..! Even a shallow geothermal well will provide 4deg C temperature difference …! And if boosted by by a refrigerant the temperature of your circulating water can be raised to near boiling point … so get a grip America 🇺🇸 ( sorry for the pathetic pun on grip lol 😂) !!!
My wife informed me that they property owners don't want to take responsibility for clearing the ice as they might be held responsible if somebody gets hurt and they could get sued. The city doesn't want to push but they don't have the resources to salt or otherwise clear the ice themselves. You add to that the seven steep hills of Seattle (which reminds my wife if San Francisco) and a climate that usually doesn't see ice storms like this, and what you are seeing in the video isn't that surprising.
I use to visit a Starbucks in Portland that sat at the bottom of a hill . In 2008 we had a front row seat at the calamity of the intersection . Absolutely hilarious .
Doesn't anyone know that's or I'm the exception ?🤨 "Wearing socks over shoes appears to be an effective and inexpensive method to reduce the likelihood of slipping on icy footpaths." If you didn't know you're welcome 👍
If you search for "Caught on video: Seattle firefighters & pedestrians slide down slippery streets after ice storm" and check at time 8:16, you can see this same incident but from a different perspective.
It's so not funny it was literally 25f outside and RAINING. Not snow, raining. It turned to ice as it hit my windshield. I got stuck on a hill right as it started to get bad. The uber delivery I was doing the guy couldn't even walk up the hill he got 3/4th of the way then slid back down. I didn't want to get out of the car. He told me to slide the bag down to him, ironically the bag didn't move. I ended up getting it to him and the whole hill was ice at that point, an ambulance had stopped in the middle of the hill because it couldn't make it up. So I ended up sliding down the hill I couldn't stop I hit the ambulance. It was awful, snow is one thing, but a literal 1/2 inch of solid ice on the road is a whole other story, especially in a city like Seattle.
I'm trying to figure out which street that is, but really, the downtown area of Seattle has some very steep grade of hills! The streets 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th run parallel to the waterfront, so alot of the grid streets between Jackson and Union are quite steep. Most folks when they need to get from, say, 3rd and Seneca to 5th and Columbia, they just walk. Yeah its a workout, its great for your rearend, but hell when its icy. That's when you either catch a bus or a taxi. Injured my knee coming down such a hill years ago, I still walk with a limp.
The bus would have worked but public transit in King, Pierce, Snohomish, and a few other counties completely shut down the 23rd because of these very conditions.
Strap on cleets would be great for situations like this. Someone should open a shop and sell strap on cleets. That person would corner the market and make a fortune.
I cant avoid to laugh - 😂Sorry🙏( I know its not funny and felt sorry for the people sliding here and there) - I Lived there for 8 years and experienced driving on slippery ice🥶, now in Ca and enjoying the cool sunny weather here🥰- hope they are ok and didn’t get hurt🙏
In Portland (and probably regionally nearby Seattle), we don’t salt roads or pavement (sidewalks). Government leaders consider salt to be too damaging to the aquafir (underground water table). Fortunately we don’t get a lot of snow and ice each year.
why, oh why does everyone just have to go out and try to walk anywhere on that ice? I think some people do it because they think it's fun. Yeah, till you crack your skull or break a hip. Maybe they'll have fun in the ER too. Sad.
my luck I'd be wearing my heels/stilettos. sometimes I had one pair of heels grip better then mens boots or shoes. but if a sheet of ice. id be stuck at the bottom. least I would look cute lol.
Born in Seattle raised in this state. It's not the hill that's the issue. It's how u approach walking up this hill. Its not a problem I've walked the hill hundreds of times no problem. Yes on the snow and ice. These are transplants. And it's funny as f*ck to watch them try. 🤣
Things keep changing in Seattle. Just a few years ago Seattle was considered the most educated metropolitan population. Now they struggle crossing the street.

@@paulstebbings9481 what are you on about? A geothermal well to de-ice a sidewalk? Feels like crampons might be a better solution. 😊

If I slipped and fell, I would just cancel my whole day. Try again tomorrow.

Relaxing 😎 over coffee ☕ laughing at them all. Jesus 🤣🤡👍
had fun capturing this from my livingroom window
It’s an ice storm. Sheet ice is impossible to walk on especially on a hill unless you want to slide down the hill.
god bless the people with crampons trying to help the slipping passers-by

Non of them having appropriate shoes for winter..
Anyone know the background music?
It's not the snow that got them

I wish smart phones would include a feature that forces people to record horizontally when they're making a video...
When we were kids we would run hoses at night on sidewalks and watch people slip and slide.
We found it to be hilarious at the time
Love how the 1 guy slid for 200 feet on hands and knees, gets up, thinking he can accomplish it this time ..... lol

It's about a block from Pike Place Market area. The bottom of the hill is the intersection of "Western Ave and Lenora Street"

This is the first tube something like this has happened. I am sure people would take your advice but getting to REI would have been impossible.
But you have to do is just pretend like you're skating! It works for me.

I slipped on an icy Seattle street and got a concussion so it wasn't all that funny.
I'm assuming you're a vital worker like EMS, fire, doctor?
Just salt the pavement, but great clip

People out there aren't very smart. LMAO If you can't walk you can't drive, just go home and chill out for the day and stay warm.
People recording video with the camera 90 degrees out of correct orientation shows a complete lack of common sense.
It's pretty funny but I kept worrying if a car started sliding too, they wouldn't be able to get out of the way.
