I assume you didn't build much of custom creations or your part collection is huge and badly organized. Most of the time takes design, especially when you are recreating something based on actual source material. I have my parts sorted and what's most important I know my part selection very well so it's way easier to think about useful part, so yeah, finding parts can take a bit of time but definitely it's one of the less time consuming part of the building process, at least for me :)
