    Hello! Just wanted to say I am the great, great, great, great granddaughter of General P. G. T. Beauregard!🙂 I am so excited to see a video on my grandfather. I just recently found out myself that he designed the rebel flag. Thanks for your research and video!!👏🏻😊

      That is awesome! I love the fact that ever so often he comes up in the videos when he is part of the battle and I get to have a little popup saying something about "yes, he is back folks". You have made my day.
      Thank you for watching and for commenting. There has been a couple month lag on new videos but we have several scripted so the channel is still active, now if I could only convince work to slow down :)

      The battle flog was modeled after the Scottish flag as far as I remember. A large percentage of people in the South were Scotch-Irish.

      I own a spider plant named P.G.T. Beauregard. I took it from a Verizon Switch (office building) after offered bc the original owner left and didn’t take the plant with them. I was a janitor, and people were inspired when they saw me caring for the plant since nobody else would. I love educating people about GT and his role at the beginning of the Civil War. I never found out why the original owner named their plant after him. 🤭❤️

      Alas, I found that out after I put up the video years ago. With all the other videos hadn't had time to go back and update... Although maybe I should, I found some new info anyways...
      Either way I appreciate that you noted that. The first few years doing this channel was rough because so many generals had almost the same name.

    Hello experts... sorry for my bad english!... Mr. Beauregard came to Panama at some time in his life??? or someone from his family came to Panama at the time of the construction of the French canal in Panama???... I ask, because my grandmother said that this man was her grandfather and my great-grandmother and her mother were French and they came to Panama in times of the construction of the French canal!

    • @thingsyoushouldknow

      No worries for your english. To my knowledge General Beauregard himself never went down there, he turned down leading the Brazilian army and never lived outside of the USA to my knowledge. Now, he may very well have visited, and it is definitely possible someone in his family, but to my knowledge it wasn't him.

      Beauregard's father was originally from France. Unlike many French in Louisiana, he was not an Acadien/Cajun. His father's family moved from France to Louisiana. General Beauregard has no connection to Panama, and none of his male children went to Panama. The Beauregards from Panama originally came from Haiti and the Dominican Republic and then came to Panama and became military officers there. That's what I could find. The first Beauregard I could find from Haiti was from 1888 -Thomas Aristide Beauregard, and his father came from Haiti/Dominican Republic area. I am not sure why your relative decided to tell that story instead of telling that the relatives came from Haiti/Dominican Republic and were the children Thomas Aristide Beauregard. Aristide is a common name in Haiti, by the way.

      @@thingsyoushouldknow There were some Beauregards apparently in Panama before the Panama Canal, so it would have been some distant relatives. I found a Edmond Aristide Beauregard d'Ambroise who was in Panama around 1863, so it wouldn't have been from the general's immediate family, but rather some distant relations, perhaps.

      @@QUINTUSMAXIMUS mmm how strange is that!, my grandmother used to say that my "great-grandmother", and her family, had come from France to Panama, at the time when the Panama Canal was being built by the French... even my great-grandmother was buried in the French cemetery here in Panama... but never mind, these are things that time erases...Thanks!!!

    This is completely almost opposite of what I read about him.
    I read he basically pushed forward the secede of Mississippi and other states.
    Basically Campaigning for it.
    But then again this might be different than possibly another Beauregard.
    Who self appointed himself a general
    And I think he had problems with Jefferson Davis is because he felt he should be the president not Davis Being he rallied more for states to secede than Davis

      You could be right. I only go off of my sources, however I have found for civil war sources can be very wrong depending on whose agenda they are following BFF
      I list my sources in the lower description. However these are quick videos and I could have selected bad sources or misinterpreted it. I might have to go back and check if I get some free time.
      I really appreciate feedback, it helps me with figure videos and to look out for things.

      Que triste es olvidar... Tabasco fué una provincia hermana de tu región y no solo se intercambiaban chiles .. si no también familias ... que por cierto en Tabasco abundan los Beauregard

    • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS
      @QUINTUSMAXIMUS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, he served in the war not because he was a slave supporter, like some. He did it for Louisiana kind of like Robert E. Lee. Robert E. Lee also wasn't behind the strident slave owning ideas. Yes, he did promote black people, and he was cherished by Creole, black French speakers who mourned his death.

      Yeah, Real shame they took them down and what is happening in the USA now. And Beauregard was a civil rights activist, so he didn't even stand for slavery.

    • @QUINTUSMAXIMUS
      @QUINTUSMAXIMUS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sethtwose8804 I don't think Beauregard wanted a statue. He wanted to move forward. He was a humble man fighting for Louisiana. Robert E. Lee expressly stated he didn't want any statues, but they ignored his wishes and built them anyway. Of course, Beauregard was respected by black Creole, French speakers and had a very dear black friend during the war, but the fact that he fought for the Confederacy, trying to protect slavery, some knee jerk people use that against him. I don't like the statues, but people should have a balance. And maybe allow for statues in certain areas instead of alienating people.

    Was G.T. short?

    • @thingsyoushouldknow
      @thingsyoushouldknow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny enough, nothing I have read ever talked about how tall he was. My assumption the way they talk about him was he was on the taller side, but I am sure part of that is just about all the big stories influencing my perception.

    • @ggfd02
      @ggfd02 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turns out he was. I knew that the called him the little cajun and the little Frenchman but could never find anything that specifically said he was short until the other day. If I can find the pade that I read it on, I'll post a link.

      The reason I asked is that i am helping my son complete a report on the movie The Hulely. Beauregard was in command of Charelston at the time and was played in the movie by Donald Sutherland who is quite tall. It is a great movie by the way and is fairly accurate.
