If I were given tree wishes, my first would be for perfect vision. I have been nearly blind my whole life and it sucks. I suppose I should thank God that I am not totally blind and count my blessings.
I can’t drive with mine on. The distance worksks fantastic but everything out of my peripherals and down below is blurry. So the car is on the left me in the right of me aren’t clear. I find I have to pull my glasses all the way down to the tip of my nose to keep the blurry spots away from my eyes.
Thanks, Dr. Teske. I have one query. Why can't we have a Progressive lens as you have shown in the schematic diagram? The top part from one end to another is for distance, a middle part from end to end for computer, and the lower part end to end for reading. Just recently I had bought a Progressive lens, but I have found it very uncomfortable because my vision was getting distorted especially while I am driving. I have again switched over to bifoculs. If it were to divide the glass into 3 parts equally without keeping blank areas, it would be the best.
I got my first pair of progressive lenses and can't see clearly at distance, at all. It's all blurry after about 20 feet. Mid vision is good and reading is worse than with my lined bifocals. What can I do to see better? I got my glasses at Sam's and they said the prescription is correct and I just have to adjust. But I can't read with them at all and can't see distance so the idea of driving is terrifying
I have short legs and use a keyboard holder, my monitors as low as they will go and do NOT sit below my eye level. I am also 32" away from my monitor. any suggestions? My recent visit it was suggested that I tip my head backwards - 8 or 9 hours a day? I think not.
Picked up a pair last night and there are multiple problems. I think problems are compounded by progressive configuration. Like others I was told to "get used to them" however my right eye is blurry. If you like smaller form factor like me, progressives may not be a good choice- too much correction going on in a small space. Also, other errors could appear like I have to tilt my head forward slightly to get the distance part of the lens into full view. There's no way I'd try to drive with the pair I just got either, an accident waiting to happen. Hope the rest of you have better luck, I'm going back to single vision lenses....
hello I have a question that how may I know the area of a progressive lenses because many types of lenses are available in the market example -free-form ,digital normal etc
I just picked up my first pair on Friday coming from single vision. I find them somewhat ok, but they cause my eyes to water. The blurred perifferal vision is quite nauseating at times. For me the distance is too far on top, causing me to bend my head down to benefit from the distance portion of the lenses. It's only been 2 days but as I wear them more I guess, I'll get used to it . Thanks so much for the video, my optometrist did explain to me the same thing . But thanks for the reassurance that it will get better with time .
I have progressives and I love them. At first it was difficult to get used to but once I did I've fallen in love with them and they're indispensable. It's very important to tell your doctor what you use your glasses for and what you use them.the most for... I read alot and work at computers practically most of the day so the areas on the lenses were adjust for such plus additional magnification was added to make reading easier and focusing on computer screen better... Also most important is ability of office & manufacturing of lenses and material used... I had one place create me a pair of lenses that had polarization, antireflective coating on both sides, UV protection, scratch protection and darkest tint available... They could not get vision correctly in the various zones to work, though they swore all measurements and specifications were correct... They changed lense material and manufacture of lenses and used same prescription and it worked perfectly...
I just bought a pair waiting 5 day's for them to arrive. My old ones (4 years old) have a much bigger distortion area but i remember when i first got them they where great once you got use to them. My new pair is the highest level they sold. The distortion area is almost non-existent, much smaller than the area shown in this video. Can't wait... They also have Transition feature which because i always wear sun glasses I'm hoping that helps me not have to change out my glasses when i go in the sun... $700 isn't cheap here in the Philippines.. Not sure what they would cost in the USA.
Just after 0:23 , a misrepresentation is portrayed, showing computer and reading areas going from edge to edge, as opposed to reality at 0:54 that shows glasses area that is not really usable at all.
I'm asking if there is software that help eye glass and hearing aids can see and lissning sound of Jesus and devils or vedio camera software can you make this product
Did you return them and get normal single vision prescription glasses? I already took mine back once and they said they put a 3x magnification on it so that was why I was having problems; now I have 1x magnification and I still think they are scamming me because it doesn’t magnify anything but distorts instead. 😓
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else needs to find out about should i get multifocal lenses? try Scarlazzina Exemplary Genie (do a google search ) ? It is a good one off product for finding the secret for natural eyesight improvement minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my close friend Aubrey at very last got astronomical success with it.
This was great, thanks, I've been looking for "do specsavers still do buy one get one free?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Rayemiron Uncommunicative Release - (do a search on google ) ? It is a smashing exclusive product for discovering how to improve your eyesight naturally minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my friend got excellent success with it.
Well Done, plain language video. I will be looking at getting these type of lenses. I just a week ago had cataract surgery in both eyes, not a the same time. Now I use plain reading glasses. Thanks
I just returned my progressive glasses and returned to the line bifocal. The progressives were a disaster. The clear field for reading was very narrow and not very high so I was constantly having to move my head to stay in focus. A pain the a**. The progressive lens was shaped like and hourglass and wasn't very large in the near or intermediate range. Not good at all.
The optometrist I recently went to urged me to get “computer lenses” because I am on a computer all day for work. They didn’t give me any literature about it and didn’t explain that it would really be like a multi-focal lens. All they told me is it would slightly magnify things on the bottom. I couldn’t even concentrate the first day I wore these and it gave me a bad headache because everything was blurry or distorted outside the normal vision area (basically the center, I had to look straight at something to see it clearly). I took it back and told them about my problem with them; they said it was because they put a 3x magnification on them. Now I have 1x magnification and I still notice it doesn’t do what they said it would - I don’t see magnification of anything and I tried moving papers around to get the best view. All it does is distort things. What is the issue? Is it my prescription? Is it just me? Or is this a total rip off on people where they say it’s one thing but it’s just to get your money? They will not refund the difference between these “computer lenses” and normal single vision lenses if I insist in getting it replaced.. I am trying to work with it but they just don’t seem to do what they claimed! Any help would be appreciated
dude you just need different glasses for pc. basically if you still able to see close in your distance glasses all you need is one glasses full correction for distance and second paire with 0.5 or 0.75 reduction in sphere for pc. those trash computer lenses are good only if you use small screen or tablet if you have normal size monitor it's trash lenses. those progressive trash is good only when you outside or driving car, but for Pc you need separate glasses with single vision lense calculated for pc distance.
By the progressive lens for me reading area is the best and intermediate for distance both are poor mainly intermediate area is Blur mainly in this glasses left and right area to be blah why as to be blurred
Civil Er. Pushpendra Singh I found getting a progressive pair tailored for the office environment very helpful. I now have wider field of view for the computer screen which is an issue with the all range progressive lenses. This has reduced fatigue and head movement considerably. Please talk with your optician about such a pair.
I have a question that I bet everybody does but no one seems to ask and no expert seems to explain: why are the "distortion zones" left in there ?? Why not make the computer zone wider instead of that little swath ?
It is a common question that is often asked. If you were to think of a Ven Diagram, where 2 circles are overlapped to show a common/mixed area. The area where the two merge is noticeably smaller than the circles themselves. Now picture that one of those circles represents the patients distance vision, and the other their reading vision. The geometry of how progressive lenses are laid out is not too far from this picture. The back surface of the lens has the patients distance power cut into upper third of the lens in a circular pattern. The reading power is molded onto the lower third front surface of the lens in a circular pattern. And what we are left with in the middle of the two circles, is a smaller yet effective intermediate (computer) power.
Allbbrz Hi, the reason being is your prescription from distance to intermediate to reading is different which in effect makes the edges of the lenses distorted
Yes, I understand that but, truly, I cannot live with those blurred areas... I think that should go the way of the dodo :-) ... well, certainly there are people who can use them but not a lot of us...
Nope... I think you are not talking about the "lobe" areas that don't focus on anything (lower sections)... I had these glasses for one week, could not live with them... and they keep being hailed as a panacea... and that makes me mad... well, I am not looking into them anymore. Now I am mad because I cannot find a place that will make Executive bifocals for my own frame without whining about something... looks like I'll be off to making my own as a pet project lol !
@@modaciouslav4792 honestly no. I didn’t see a big difference. I went a month ago and choose to stay with regular prescription. I do use transition glasses. For 2 for 350. At americas best.

cant understand why they are made this way with the blurry parts at each side! Why not just polish the lines away in the first diagram where the 3 powers are in bands the full width of the lens?
The first rendition at 0:28 is not how prescription progressives are ground, so that is an outright misrepresentation and the author knows it. They are made as depicted at 0:58 with that ridiculous corridor and the two optical aberrations in the lower corners. If you talk to opticians, they will tell you that progressive glasses can only be made that way, which is false. You can buy off-the-shelf progressives that are like the first diagram - I have them and LOVE them. I cannot adjust to prescriptions. As far as I know, only Foster Grant still has them available, for around $35. Another company called "ICU" used to sell them but apparently they don't anymore. Check out Foster Grant online. (Note - I like the styles and robustness of the ICU much better but can't get them now). Edit - part of the reason is one giant company essentially controls the entire eyeglass industry. All those brands? All the same company.
My thoughts exactly after I returned the first pair and told them it was blurry they basically ignored it or denied that it was supposed to be that way. They acted like I am the problem and they reduced the magnification to 1x and it still doesn’t magnify anything but distorts it!
@@Bloomsong1020 In my experience with opticians - and this should be obvious - I realized that they are not health care providers in any sense of the term. They are retailers selling a product, not very different than if they were selling a pair of shoes, and not much concerned with customers' comfort.
@@rla1000 A retail 'eyewear specialist' may have little to no experience, this is true. If you want better information and better results, be sure you are speaking with a licensed dispensing optician (LDO). They generally spend a minimum of 2 years or 3000 hours pre-registered apprenticeship under a DO (doctor of optometry). They 'may' have passed the ABO (American Board of Optometry) exam and be qualified to call themselves a 'certified' optician, but one is not licensed by the state until the time and educational requirements are met, and the (2) practical exams have been passed (Opticianry and contact lenses). This varies state to state. Just ask if they are licensed, or at least how much experience they have. Otherwise you may be dealing someone that started two weeks ago :-(
I assume you have already had them check where that the optical centers of the lenses are in-line with your pupils, that the prescription is correct, and lens tilt is suitable. With your prescription, your lenses remain a -5.00 through the vertical-center of the lens, from top-center to bottom-center. However, the -1.00 cylinder is added to the left and right sides of the lens, along the horizontal. This is to correct for the astigmatism (not perfectly spherical) of your cornea. So if you keep your head straight ahead, but direct your gaze either right or left, the power essentially changes from -5.00 to -6.00. Annoying, but probably not bad enough to reshape your cornea with a laser (lasik). A hi-index lens will be thinnest and may help. Bending your frame at the bridge to create more curve on the front (face-form) may help. Spreading the nose-pads a bit to move the lenses slightly closer to the face may help. If your DO can ease off the cylinder slightly, that may help, but would need to be discussed with your DO. Try bending the frame front slightly first.....
I find that you can't see much with the glasses. Find that the outside edges are all blury the middle section is all blurry. I seem to only see what I would call in the blank area above and below a capital H so really not very useful. If wear to drive can't see the speedometer. And if move head to see it can't see the gages on either side. Even in the reading area only see the top or bottom of my phone. Not the whole thing. If I turn the phone sideways the sides are blurry. I have trouble with going up the steps miss the step and going down have missed the bottom step as I can't see it. Also I find even walking forward the majority of the view is blurry expect for the top small center part. Will be going back to change out the glasses.
i have keratoconus and i cant see over 10 metres using normal glasses. does anyone know if distant glasses will help me see further than regular glasses. (i can only see out of 1 eye) pls someone help
Your little diagram at 0:38 is completely misleading. There ARE off-the-shelf (at drug stores, big box stores, etc.) reading glasses that have a progression as diagrammed at 0:38 (Foster Grant, ICU, others), but prescription progressives have that skinny "corridor" between two blurry areas and cause dizziness that is shown at 0:58.
I am experiencing vertigo and dizziness with balance issues when walking since getting these new progressive eye glasses a couple weeks ago. I had progressives prior to this an had same issue but not so often. I really hate them. I think I should get a pair of glasses for distance and a separate pair for reading and laptop.
So, the reason these are being pushed instead of the much easier to deal with trifocals, because of lines on the lenses. Vane much? I'll take trifocals every time.
So basically u get a tiny little area on ur glasses to see ur phone or a book so in other words don’t move ur head or just DONT MOVE AT ALL otherwise u will be looking thru the ‘distorted’ part of the lens?? This is nonsense no wonder my glasses feel like they don’t do shit

i bought a pair and cost me 1000 bucks here in canada but just terrible glasses,im a artist and distorts my linework/also Nikons website is terrible they should do a better job as its so confusing when selecting the proper lenses/perhaps they should use a virtual reality headset to show the customer what it's like with different lenses when selecting progressives therefore one can see which type works best as i mentioned this to my optometrist.IT's funny most the lenses and glasses are made in china and yet they charge us prices like they were made in america what a ripoff also i can see why so many people cannot see well when driving wearing these its like looking out of a goldfish bowl /so i guess one should have 3 glass strings round there neck ,one for reading ,one for distance and one for computers what a marketing scheme.ps i have supported the eye companys since i was twelve and now 53 havent they made enough, not happy and will get them to change for the other type as there's a a t window so called sweet spot which is like a plow horse with blinder how the heck is one supposed to work with this crap ,also plastic lenses are not as clear as glass and that is why high end cameras use glass ground optics and the only reason they use plastic is it cost them 20 bucks to make the glasses and frames.Biggest marketing crap in the world market guess its like the emperor has clothes.
100% correct made...having the same problem with my new Lenscrafter's $1000/- glasses...old ones from Hakim NO problems...wearing progressive ones for more than 20 years!!!
I might aswell just stay blind and be able to see up close my glasses were a rip off of £316 they can't fix my nearsightedness because the glasses are for distance, but i spend 60% of my time on my phone which I can't see so they're just useless to me
You get a refraction from a (DO)- Doctor of Optometry, who has spent at least 8 years of college and optical school for that title, so yes, you are their 'patient'.
Otherwise you may be dealing someone that started two weeks ago :-(
I have had a new pair of eyeglass with new power of -5.00 cylindrical -1.00 axis 90°...but I have a blur vision in the sides of the glasses...
me too
I assume you have already had them check where that the optical centers of the lenses are in-line with your pupils, that the prescription is correct, and lens tilt is suitable.
Am waiting for mine and now I don't know what to do 🙆♂
As I take mine off to be able to “see” cell phone screen! 🤦♀️
The reading area is blurry , I need to read clear not blurred
Yeah... same here... i can't image how this thing was pushed down customer's throats that put up with this horrible design.
Greg Towle when you received your glasses did you get them adjusted. Your probably looking through the intermediate.
Ask me anything....
Lovely brand ambassador & video. I love ronit roy.
Can you drive with these glasses?
With risk.
I can’t wear mine they make me feel sea sick. I gave up and went back to monofocal
Alternatively, just use a plus lens for close work.
i have keratoconus and i cant see over 10 metres using normal glasses. does anyone know if distant glasses will help me see further than regular glasses. (i can only see out of 1 eye) pls someone help
Have you already been to an opthalmologist that specializes in keratoconus? Contact lense(s) may provide better correction than spectacles.
Very informative, thank you
I understand noted po.
I got a pair not worth a damn my Walgreens 1.25 readers are way better.
Thanks
I ve got some problems for the user of prog
I did not get anything when I got my glasses. I can see better without them
Your little diagram at 0:38 is completely misleading.
What frames can I have with progressive glasses?
I just got a pair and was told the bigger frames is better for progressive glasses
What does R - 2.00 -0.75 160.0 mean please?
Refraction is -2 Diopters
Astigmatism: (Cylinder)
Is -0.75 at 160 Degrees.
My first pair and these are weird but better than nothing.
So, the reason these are being pushed instead of the much easier to deal with trifocals, because of lines on the lenses.
Vane much? I'll take trifocals every time.
Please make video in Hindi so as to I understood all about to progressive lens that which of the best for me
Progressive glasses always gave me HEADACHES.
No more for me.
OMG what a mess, you can not beat the first day job, your own natural eyesight , I'm at the reading glasses stage and I hope it don't get any worse.

i bought a pair and cost me 1000 bucks here in canada but just terrible glasses,im a artist and distorts my linework/also Nikons website is terrible they should do a better job as its so confusing when selecting the proper lenses/perhaps they should use a virtual reality headset to show the customer what it's like with different lenses when selecting progressives therefore one can see which type works best as i mentioned this to my optometrist.IT's funny most the lenses and glasses are made in china and yet they charge us prices like they were made in america what a ripoff also i can see why so many people cannot see well when driving wearing these its like looking out of a goldfish bowl /so i guess one should have 3 glass strings round there neck ,one for reading ,one for distance and one for computers what a marketing scheme.ps i have supported the eye companys since i was twelve and now 53 havent they made enough, not happy and will get them to change for the other type as there's a a t window so called sweet spot which is like a plow horse with blinder how the heck is one supposed to work with this crap ,also plastic lenses are not as clear as glass and that is why high end cameras use glass ground optics and the only reason they use plastic is it cost them 20 bucks to make the glasses and frames.Biggest marketing crap in the world market guess its like the emperor has clothes.
exactly I dumped almost 1k with insurance on mine trans lens sunglass rayban frame etc I hate them -- taking them back-- total scam !!!
I took my pair back as it made me dizzy, headache w/ nausea. All I know is they must be making a lot of money off of these! Never again!
100% correct made...having the same problem with my new Lenscrafter's $1000/- glasses...old ones from Hakim NO problems...wearing progressive ones for more than 20 years!!!
So true! I think he's a marketing scheme as well and I don't really feel like my eyes has improved I feel like I'm working too hard to see
Stop buying glasses over the counter. Go get a prescription from your doctor. Smh
ergonomically
My husband MARWA Foysol July 16th 24 anything down the street and your family to see how you are doing the same one as 🏡🎂♥️♥️♥️♥️
I might aswell just stay blind and be able to see up close my glasses were a rip off of £316 they can't fix my nearsightedness because the glasses are for distance, but i spend 60% of my time on my phone which I can't see so they're just useless to me
I don’t like my progressive glasses 👓 they suck
progressive lenses in my opinion are bullshit-- you have to look through 3 stages of the glasses I HATE THEM !!
So, a glasses wearer is 'a patient'? I suffer from eyesight.
You get a refraction from a (DO)- Doctor of Optometry, who has spent at least 8 years of college and optical school for that title, so yes, you are their 'patient'. An Opthalmologist (MD) , has a different avenue of studies, and additionally a hospital internship, and earns the title of full medical doctor (MD). The eyes are the most complicated organ in the body.
Sending mine back this week.Horrible.
My MARWA call
Why this progressive glasses a made in different partly view.. Less view. More n wide view. Its sud be full view.. These eye glass manufacturer n opticians are confusing the peoples and charging as per view
they are lousy
we're to buy.essilor
you're to buy essilor?
Ranny Lim
a person got hit by a car, the driver was using progressive glasses.
then another person crossing the street got hit by a big bike, the person crossing the street was using progressive lense, all she remembered was she looked to her left then to her right--but she she wasn't fast enough because she said things got blurry sides to sides, the bike magically appeared from nowhere...
balitang visdak you didn’t mention persons who tumble down stairs because they’re blurry (and opticians warn you of this).
My progressives have an enormous amount of distortion. This video doesn't explain that. leaving one to assume there shouldn't be. and frankly, I'm still not sure WHY there is to begin with.
Wish I knew before buying them.
I feel like my eyes has gotten worse with progressive glasses
Lovely brand ambassador & video. I love ronit roy.
