Snoop and the Dogg Pound kicked the New York buildings down before Westside Connect even came out. So why Cube on here talking like he lead the movement? It was a great album but them niggaz was late to the party!
As a Bklyn dude, and an early NWA fan. Buying and hearing "AmeriKKK's Most Wanted" for the first time... Blew my fucking mind !! Still in my top 10 greatest Hip Hop albums!!
This was an excellent quality show with great content -would love to reach out about hosting members from the Murakush Society to discuss the issue of 'Moor nationality among the denationalized so-called 'black's' in N. America and it's healing effects to offset many of the injustices facing the people today. Shalom/Salaams
Hey man, Cube is highly underrated IMO. I consider him the greatest rapper alive. Lyrical skills, longevity and cultural impact. He was Tupac before Tupac
Podcasters can take notes from Talib....he knows how to hold a conversation without talking over his guests.....pretty fuckin rare in the podcasting game....kudos Talib
Death Certificate was one of the coldest all-around pieces of art ever put out in hip-hop. The work is genius and should be studied at a university level.
Dawn Brooks I concur!! I know you feel me when I say “the work is genius”is so correct but also an understatement.Death Certificate changed my perspective on many different issues plaguing many of our(African descent)communities in America.Every track is dope lyrically with music to ride to(no skips-EVEN INTERLUDES ARE DOPE!!).Although I’m fortunate to have one of the many original CDs’ bought almost three decades ago,the experience of listening, enjoying and receiving the vibrations as well as evolving mentally, all happening simultaneously is priceless!🔥💯💪🏾🙏🏾
Yes, but I kinda remember the incident differently than cube. As per King-Sun, he played Cube a song with the Wicked hook. Months later Cube comes out with his song. Same thing with Cypress Hill. They played a song with their hook, then Cube comes out with a song with similar hook. Fortunately his skin in the game outweighs these two blemishes on an otherwise brilliant career.
@@nashonbenjamin9563 three, he changed his flow after hearing volume 10, a crafty underground mc with no mass appeal, who had a pretty unique style but was not very well known. So ice cube took his style and ran with it
Nashon Benjamin But CH done came back with a dis track and Cube had his too. One of my best dis track tbh. Both parties acknowledged what happened and squashed it later on.
This interview revealed a number of gems. The one that struck me most is when Cube spoke on his past beef with Common. I never understood it until this interview. I also recall Common referencing the beef in his bars in one of my favorite tracks by The Roots "Act Too (Love of My Life)." Cube still has the venom he had in my childhood but he also has that full grown game on full display. Many blessings to all who represent the culture in such a beautiful light!
This episode is so wonderful, I drew a tear or two with the discussion of true forgiveness. Two Black Men coming to a common ground and it’s all love. For the culture!! For Black people specifically ❤️🖤💚
Brings back memories of how it was in the late 80s early 90s. I saw and lived Cali culture in 89 coming from NYC. You really had to leave out of NY to see and appreciate different styles of music like me. That East vs West bs had me pissed. Cube had love for the East way back then cuz he went to NY to make his first solo album with the Bomb Squad, Hank Shocklee, (Public Enemy) Strong Island New York!
People I'd love to see on the show: MC Hammer, MC Serch (Yes I did that on purpose lmao!), Mos Def, Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip, Aceyalone, DJ Quik, Questlove, Will.I.Am, Kwame, Phonte, Queen Latifah, Marley Marl, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Killer Mike, David Banner, RZA, Lil Jon, Akon, E-40, Lord Finesse, Missy Elliott, Ja Rule, King T, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean, Mike Bivins, Spike Lee, Jermaine Dupri, Dru-Ha (Duck Down), Pharrell, The-Dream, Zo!, Janelle Monae, Childish Gambino, J. Ice Cube's nuanced views on the Police force was really refreshing to hear. Casting off all police as bad people or evil is counter productive to getting any sort of mutual respect. I also really liked his point about cop's expecting civilians to snitch on each other while not doing the same when one of their own fucks up. Predator was my first CD. Ice Cube is a legend!
Thanks to Talib and Uproxx for doing this. I can't get enough of these podcasts. I'm a mid 30s average white guy just watching some of my favorite musicians talk about their life, culture, education and history. It all makes me appreciate their hard work and their art because it's something I can't personally ever relate to. Inspiring and motivating.
Two of my top 5 rappers in one spot! Nice! When are you guys going to do a song together? Kweli's deep introspective look combined with Cube's storytelling would make for a classic banger.
Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I always admired and stayed in tuned with ice cube. One of my favorite lyricist who didn't hold his tongue about true and real topics centered around African american culture as a whole. Keep doing your thing, talib and the crew. Yo talib, what's up with a Dave Chappelle interview.
