If they were just a bit more renegade-minded they would be the surface warfare equivalent to the magnificent screwballs of Dutch Holland's 808th. Their weapons are the most resilient in the Corps, essentially designed as solid 20,000-ton blocks of carbon-composite armor with the most twisted interpretation of "off-road" build-outs imaginable. When matched with Colonel Moody's air-ground company and Argent's paladin mechs, it's no-prisoners warfare led by one of the most hard-nosed marine officers alive.
Shane, I cannot tell you how happy I am that I found your stories. I am 70 years old and newly retired; I look forward for your audiobook about the strike battleship engineers. Thank you, Tom.
Shane, a quick question. What are battle screens on a ship? Are they like energy shields? Or are they a physical piece of metal in a shield shape that is deployed around a ship on extendable arms, like armour to absorb impacts? Just for my mental imaging while listening along. Love the stories mate, love the small details 👌🏾
Battle screens are traditional energy shields. They're generated on the outer surface of the drive field. Heavy ships also have a combination of ablative and powered armor to guard against physical impacts by kinetics and missile warheads. You'll enjoy Dreadnought Ascendant, when Yili and Hunter invent a directional shield for USS Republic. Glad you're enjoying the stories!
@ShaneLochlannBlack mate I've binged the first 3 books of Starships at War, absolutely love your writing style. Ok, thank you for clarifying. Now, the brain can conjure up the correct images for the mental movie as I follow along 😁

What cliff hanger! Fast-paced combat is described by a mind picture that has absolute clarity. Great work, thanks.
