This is very helpful. I have practically the same sort of key for my Seat. (Skoda, Seat, ... It is all Volkswagen, anyway). Now I know what I can expect and how to safely exchange the battery. Thank you, sir!
My "Magic" Key battery for my car is the most uncommon size ever! CR2032... The only place I could find one that didn't cost the earth was the small old watch shop type place... Cheers Toyota!
If it was actually a CR2032 then it's a really common lithium cell. Even Poundland has four alongside two CR2025 and two CR2016 cells in their multipack..
Hi Clive! I tried everything I could. Nothing working. I am ready to buy a fob key if I will be sure that this is the solution. Thank You Very Much for all your help.
Hey @bigclivedotcom, Thanks for video. I am watching your videos for quite a while now... I am looking to extend the range of the key. Is it possible to be done with for example putting 2x CR2016 instead of one CR2032? And what are the consequences of raising the voltage to key parts? Is it possible that high voltage damadge sensitive electronics inside the key? Or maybe it is not so sensitive at all? Thanks in advance...
Did you have to "sync" your key back to the car so it'll open the doors remotely again using one key in the ignition and one key in the driver's door? Looks like the same type of key my old SEAT Leon had, unfortunately the driver's door lock had seized!
Every 1-2 weeks, sometime often, my key is not working. After just opening the key and replace the same battery, statring to work again. Make me crazy to do this all the the time. Any idea what can be the problem?
Oh, yes. I changed the battery. I cleaned the contacts. I have exactly the same keys with you. I spent hours reading about this and nothing. Is not working even manually. I mean, when I try to open the car by putting the key in the door, the car is opening, but in the same time the front windows. OK, not very nice, I can live with that, but when I try to lock the car in the same way is not possible.
Ionel Tony Ciobanu It might be a problem with the cars control system. In the same situation I would either disconnect one terminal from the battery, leave it for a minute or two, and then reconnect it, or find the fuse for the control system and remove it for a few minutes. That should at least reset the controller. After that it might mean buying a new keyfob on ebay and programming the car to accept it, using the many guides online.
bigclivedotcom you are so right, once i took my motorcycle and a ford car key in to copy, the guy looked at the ford key and said to me a four digit number, which is the cutting guide for the key and can be cut purely from that and the motorcycle key he cut from memory at the same time, a bit scary! of course we dont know which skoda fabia is yours clive, so your pretty safe anyway!
jusb1066 On ebay you can send a photo of a key and they'll cut one for you and send it to the address you've supplied. Which is probably the one the key opens the door of.
back in the old days we were told any key cutter wouldnt cut a key from a clay mold, now its as simple as taking your phone out? scary, yes, i will remember never to get a house key cut and sent to my home address , turns out theres "an app for that"
I had the same key but with a lightly different contact on my 2002 Seat Leon but i replaced it with a newer style key because i was fed of it digging into my leg. this is the one i have. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180750139714?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT also if your headlight switch is the same you might want to go for this auto light module, it works a treat and gives you auto lights and will also switch them on at night when you unlock the car. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271321328633?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Hey,Clive! you are great! My was glued, didn't want to use too much force until I saw how you did.
Great!
Thanks so much. Very clear, no faffing - you're a natural!
Followed this and took my 14 year old Leon mk1 key aparta Dan cleaned it out and it’s now working like new without needing a new battery.
Bought a Mark 1 Fabia with these keys and within a week the battery for the key died! Thanks!
Many thanks, was stuck without your video.
Thanks for this video.
Very helpful took less than 2 minutes after watching the tutorial.
Good vid and very well presented
SImple and full of practical tips :) thanks!

How strange! Tried Asda, Tesco and all those places. Need to open my eyes more then it seems...
Very helpful. Thanks!! It´s the same for seat and vw
Very useful. Thanks!

You may damage the keyfob circuitry with a higher voltage.
I thought so. Thank you for your response.
the positive side is facing down from the camera perspective

No, it kept its sync. Likewise when I changed the cell in the Transit van it kept its sync too.
Well that confirms what I already knew, SEATs are crap!
MegaWayneD if you had put wd40, this wouldn't happen
Hello
I have a fabia 2003 and i need to have the oem number of this key .any help please ?
My key doesn't work, and i think because there is no green paper information disk in it. Do you know if i can replace this?
Use a good quality cell, make sure it's in its contacts properly and that they mate with the PCB. Also make sure there's no water induced corrosion.
Every 1-2 weeks, sometime often, my key is not working. After just opening the key and replace the same battery, statring to work again.
Make me crazy to do this all the the time.

Ionel Tony Ciobanu have you tried a new battery and made sure the contacts are clean and pressing against the battery properly?

clever how you put tape over the teeth
It was heatshrink. It's too easy to copy keys from a picture.

I know some key cutter guys in the car business that can look at a key and then cut a replacement. They have the codes in memory.
How do I pair the remote to the car again?
That depends on the car. There are probably instructions online. Mine worked directly after the battery change.
Do you know how to sync the car key with the car?
Not sure with the Skoda. With the Ford van there was a sequence of ignition key operations for programming a new fob.
Why on earth are you awake at 4am too?!
I'm nocturnal.
bigclivedotcom As am I, good sir. As am I...
