    Very accurate review. The Double Cask and the Sherry Cask are head to head depending on individual's preference, both are strong on Sherry. The nose of the Sherry Cask is much stronger than the Double but the palate of the Double may be superior. The distant third is the Fine Oak (or Triple Cask) which contains sulphur. I was shocked by how good the Double was as I thought nothing could beat 12 years of Oloroso in European Oak. Oh and Elijah Craig is really nice too.

    The double cask is my first Macallan (and my first premium scotch, I'm a novice), I gotta say I love it. It's very smooth. Every time I drink a glass I pick up a new note.

    • @WhiskyInThe6
      @WhiskyInThe6  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s definitely smooth. Perhaps too light for my liking.

      @@WhiskyInThe6 that's good to hear for me. My palettes not developed enough to try out the more flavorful stuff so I think I won't be disappointed for when I do :)

    Great battle! I saw your El Dorado 15 review, would love a review of the 12- nobody I know drinks the 15. Would also love for you to try Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva rum! It's a little sweeter but very on par with El Dorado and arguably smoother.

    W6, although I've never had the 12 yr fine oak and its been over 10 years since I've had the 12 yr sherry oak, I would probably agree with your assessment. I recently bought and finished the 12 DC and that was very good for $60... It was better than the Mac Ed 2
    when price is figured in. Great review

      Keith Petersen thanks buddy. I really enjoy the DC. Great stuff. I recommend giving the Sherry oak a shot though. It's really good as well. Bigger nose on it.

    Will the ECBP be making it to BC and Vancouver Island? I don't care if it costs $200 after hearing Bart singing about it... I'd like to save myself two ferry crossings and a round trip to Total Wine in Seattle...

    Nice Review Rob.. I just picked up the Mac 12 Sherry 43% from Total Wine for.... $46.99. I couldn't believe the price. It goes for $55-$75 at other stores in my area (Orange County, California). As long as the price stays under $50, its a good deal I feel. The Mac 12 DC I had a sample of, and I really enjoyed it. Sweeter and The finish was a little nuttier, but shorter. Could be do to the 40% ABV it had. I wouldn't mind picking up the DC, but it is about $55. The Glendronach 12 which i have, and is excellent, goes for around $57. I'm going to keep stocking up on the Mac 12 Sherry 43% so long as it stays under $50. I'm guessing there is just a ton of stock here in the States. Even Walgreens has it lol. I'm just amazed at the price difference VS other areas/countries. TWE sells it for $78 and it's 40% one. When i got to the register I was waiting for a higher price, thinking it was miss marked haha. Nope. $46.99. Hell of a deal. Cheers.

      Brandon Duckworth that's an incredible deal. I need to load up on Mac 12 the next time I'm in the US. We get the Double Cask here but at a lower abv.

      haha yea man, heck mise well move to the States, no LCBO and can ship from TWE/MOM. Altho, it is pretty crazy in Cali lately lol. I'm hoping Macallan comes out with 15/18/21/25 yr Double Cask. I emailed them asking, no reply yet. I think they will though, i mean the 12 DC is selling so well.

    I'm a big fan of the 12 Sherry. The Double Cask reminds of Balvenie 12 Double Wood a lot. I don't think the 12 Fine Oak was ever released in the US market, or if it was, it's now discontinued there. I haven't seen a single bottle anywhere online (except in the UK).

    • @WhiskyInThe6

      In my opinion the Macallan 12 is the best 12 year old sherried whisky on the market. Ive seen it as low as $45 USD, which is great value. I wonder why we don't see the Fine Oak 12 in the US now.

      Jeremy H not sure. Should have had my brother pick me one up. It was at the same time that he got me the Sherry oak. I wasn't there personally but he took pictures of what was available.

    I see that 500 ml bottle of Dillon's Rye in the back, shame they released it at 43% when the last release was cask strength. $40 for a 1/2 bottle of young rye versus $40 for a Lot 40. Let me know if it is worth the purchase.

    Mac 12 double cask is not for me. The ginger and citrus 🍊 is over baring and leaves you with a short and dry finish.

  • @SuperMisterbond
    @SuperMisterbond 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Rob, few years ago i read that the 12 YO Sherry is discontinued, but they are still all over Europe, Asia and now America as well?
    So the news was fake? Was it just to get people to buy them?

    • @WhiskyInThe6
      @WhiskyInThe6  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think what happened was that there was a shortage. It never fully stopped being produced. It was pulled from many ordering lists around the world to ensure that there was enough stock for the Asian and American markets.

    Thanks Rob for the great review. I really enjoy your honest straightforward reviews. I just purchased and tasted now in 1/2020 the MaCallan Edition No. 5 and was very disappointed by the lackluster flavor and off putting alcohol burn of a very young whisky. I'm hoping it will open up to a better profile after the neckpour is gone and some oxidation occurs.At $140 I have to say I was very disappointed and can buy much better whiskeys at that price point. Have you tried this one yet and what was your impression?
