Retsuko had better chemistry with Tadano than she did with Haida, heck, even Haida had better chemistry with Tadano and that made me ship them more than Retsuko and Haida.
It's not that rare for people to decide that certain characters are better meant than other pairs that meant to be a pair by the creators. Though Aggretsuko for me tend to have a streak with this kind of thing, you think they decide to this stuff just it actually bring more people in. Though Tadano being Tadano, I'm kinda scared cause of how much of an ideal guy he is to date, willing to try something new and reasonable as well.

Why stick with a guy that doesn’t want to make official and long term. Most people in relationships want their end goal to be in marriage. Tadano gets points for a lot of things, but for relationship to work you gotta compromise on the things you and your partner want.

Sure, either of them could have conceded but Retsuko is giving up a far better relationship with someone that will let her do and be whatever she wants as long as he doesn't have to sign some paper. They could have a ceremony and do all of the little extra ring giving whatever stuff without having it be in paper. She cares more about the paper than she does the actual meat of the relationship. Why stick with a girl that's so deeply entrenched in a symbolic notion that she was taught that she can't actually see past it to care about you?

I know everyone is praising Tadano, but honestly I do love that Retsuko did not compromise on her expectations. I find that women in some media are usually expected to yield to the man's wants and needs, and to see Retsuko do the opposite even if it hurt was refreshing. Sometimes, no matter how perfect a relationship seems, if both of your wants and needs don't complement each other it's just not for you. And that's okay. :)
I know that Tadano is a good guy and all but can we talk about the fact that he bought the Internet cafe Haida was living in? Considering Haida’s situation at the time, imagine how many homeless people were kicked out.
I would belv Tadano gave them homes, because I feel like Haida would have said something. If Tadano didn't know and bought it, kinda looks worse on Haida for not telling him about the homeless living there. On the surface an internet cafe would seem the same as buying private karaoke rooms or an arcade. You can blame him for not researching the effects of closing the cafe, but if i was Tadano I would be kinda upset at Haida for not saying anything. Also Haida told Tadano about the cafe in the first place, which there would be no reason to do unless he told him about being homeless. Because like no shit Tadano loves manga he's a nerd. but Haida seems to be a bit surprised by it. If anything its really insensitive that Tadano would bring Haida back there, but also in character in my opinion. The whole thing feels very contrived to begin with...
The writers destroyed Haidas character, and I feel like this is something out of character for Tadano. I think they needed a plot device to include tadano in Retsukos campaign from afar so they did that, but I really feel like buying the internet Cafe isn't something his character would actually do!!

tadano was a walking green flag in my opinion. I feel like the creators would've had them two sit and talk about the future other than have her sing her heart out. something more realistic. but same, I want to find someone like him someone whos handsome and rich lol but someone whos supportive of whatever I have my mind in, and stays by me even if I asked to be left alone. take our time together and wait for something big.
Everyone talking about how Haida wasn't the right pick and Tadano was, but you guys seem to miss the point. Tadano was introduced to show that just because someone is great, and healthy, and a good choice for a relationship, doesn't mean that they're a good choice for you. Retsuko wants to get married. She wants that traditional relationship, and Tadano Does not. There's nothing wrong with that sort of relationship breaking off. Eventually it would have been an issue. It's a good lesson to learn.
Thats how life can be sometimes though. The same could have be said for Haida all the way back in the first season when he was getting shot down left and right and then later on when there was a nice girl who was interested in him, but it just didn't work cause he still had feelings for someone else. Tadano is the other spectrum where you still love and care about your ex a bit after the breakup. Its especially common if its not a super messy breakup either. Im just glad he isn't a massive stalker and just wants to support Retsuko because he cares about her. But yeah real life wise the time it takes for someone to get over their crush/ex can range from a short time to a long time depending on the circumstances and person.

I don’t think most of the people in this comment section understand what marriage really is about. Yes it the symbolic union of people, forever bonded through love blah blah blah blah. But that silly piece of paper everyone is saying is useless actually has a lot of importance, legally. And I’m not just talking about sharing assets or money even though it is apart of it a bit. Im talk about taking care of each other. What if something happens to your partner and they are no longer here. You would be without and grieving. What if he died and they had children. She would literally not access to any of that money to take care of their children. What if she dies and they have kids her family can literally take full custody of the children and keep him from them. Another thing is he wanted her to be financially dependent on him. That is a recipe for disaster if that relationship doesn’t work out. Just think if she quits her job and has no support other than him and that relationship falls apart. She is again without and in a very scary place with no support, no job, and no money. Money isn’t everything but in this society it’s how we survive.

Nothing is guaranteed. Pamela Anderson married a dude in his 70s and when he died and left everything to her, the dudes family sued her for it and won. Love also isn't eternal. Girls can cheat just as often as guys do. A marriage is something you pray works out or worse case divorce with paid alimony cause women deserve money for nothing.
Not to mention in case of am accident or any illness that requires hospitalization and make decisions the partner can't because of their condition, legally only a spouse or direct family can, a bf or gf have no say what so ever. Imagine there's a car crash or something and you're there with your significant other and they need someone to make a decision to save their life, if you're married you can make it, if not... you are just wasting space there and they're gonna call a parent or sibling who may or not not even be in the city and will have to wait for them to sign the papers
Retsuko isn’t stupid, she left him because they have different life perspectives. Even though Tadano is charming, clever, kind, rich…he’s a little egoist, and he’s a free spirit. It’s not what Retsuko wants for her. Not everyone enjoys a life full of adventures. Some people want to seattle down, build a family and live normal lives, there’s nothing wrong with that! Retsuko was very mature when she decided to end up this relationship, unlike some people here who are saying they’d never have given up on Tadano just because he’s cool and rich. This relationship would lead to suffering for both of them in the future. One of them would have to abandon their essence to satisfy the other part, because they are just too different. But one thing I can’t deny…Tadano and Haida have chemistry 😏
I still don't forget he took away the "residence" of so many people just because of a vagary, and I know the "residents" were in that risk all of the time, but knowing how kind Tadano is, it really blowed me all away that he didn't think on the people who used that place as house.
Good lord the comments here just make me realize two things. 1. They don't understand the why they were never meant to be 2. They don't understand Japanese culture. Just to keep it simple, their life desires were so far apart and regardless of what either did, neither wanted to compromise. Retsuko wants to be married, have kids and live that life of commitment. Tadano is fine with being together with someone, but not to the point of marriage and ESPECIALLY not having kids. Both because it's not what he wants and his lifestyle would not work for it. Forcing one or the other to change that for the others sake would not work, cause then said person would be leading a life not of their own choice. As for the culture of Japan, being married is seen as an important thing. Especially when it comes to marrying into a good family/bloodline/etc. It's why parents will arrange meetings or even marriages to ensure this. And despite it being old fashion, it still equates to around 30% of actual marriages. Being together with someone without being married is seen as "wrong". Look at Ton, he got married. Not for per say "It was what he wanted" but more "it was what he needed". Cause deep down her knew getting married would benefit him and his life for the better. (Even if he does has moments of wondering why he deals with it) It's why the idea was made clear to Retsuko. Is being with Tadano what she wants and if it is, will it benefit her and her life for the better? Or is she only doing what Tadano wants, leading a life that isn't hers?
Tadano is an awesome guy. I personally don't want kids so this man would be perfect for me. Marriage is overrated and just a way to show off how much money you have which, by today's standards, nobody does. Anyone who gets married usually divorces from a few months to even just a year afterwards anyway from all the debt they formed from splurging for one day.
Can't generalize everyone. Remember there are a lot of married couples who have lived their lives together n still do. Marriage may not work for everyone but doesn't mean it's not valuable to those who want it n are serious about it.

This shallow view of marriage is exactly why so many people get divorces nowadays. People are only looking at it from the material side of it (how much does this person make? Are they hot? Can we afford that big glamorous wedding?) Instead of what marriage really is. A promise that you’ll always be by that person’s side and that you’ll go through life together as a unit. My parents got married at a park and each still have simple metal bands as their wedding rings. They’re gonna be coming up on their 36th anniversary this summer and I’ve never seen a couple so in love with each other still despite going through shit that would’ve wrecked other couples.

Iirc Tadano said he didn’t want kids. And while I can’t say anything about Japan’s laws, in the US spousal rights are a thing. If Tadano got hurt Retsuko wouldn’t be able to be by his side to help and vice-versa. If one of them got into legal trouble the other might be forced into talking. If Tadano prematurely died without writing a will Retsuko wouldn’t get any of his money to help raise the kids. Etc, etc. There’s a lot more to marriage than “just signing a piece of paper.”

Nothing is guaranteed. Pamela Anderson married a dude in his 70s and when he died and left everything to her, the dudes family sued her for it and won. Love also isn't eternal. Girls can cheat just as often as guys do. A marriage is something you pray works out or worse case divorce with paid alimony cause women deserve money for nothing.
Not to mention in case of am accident or any illness that requires hospitalization and make decisions the partner can't because of their condition, legally only a spouse or direct family can, a bf or gf have no say what so ever. Imagine there's a car crash or something and you're there with your significant other and they need someone to make a decision to save their life, if you're married you can make it, if not... you are just wasting space there and they're gonna call a parent or sibling who may or not not even be in the city and will have to wait for them to sign the papers

Retsuko isn’t stupid, she left him because they have different life perspectives. Even though Tadano is charming, clever, kind, rich…he’s a little egoist, and he’s a free spirit. It’s not what Retsuko wants for her. Not everyone enjoys a life full of adventures. Some people want to seattle down, build a family and live normal lives, there’s nothing wrong with that! Retsuko was very mature when she decided to end up this relationship, unlike some people here who are saying they’d never have given up on Tadano just because he’s cool and rich.
This relationship would lead to suffering for both of them in the future. One of them would have to abandon their essence to satisfy the other part, because they are just too different.

Good lord the comments here just make me realize two things.
1. They don't understand the why they were never meant to be
2. They don't understand Japanese culture.
Just to keep it simple, their life desires were so far apart and regardless of what either did, neither wanted to compromise. Retsuko wants to be married, have kids and live that life of commitment. Tadano is fine with being together with someone, but not to the point of marriage and ESPECIALLY not having kids. Both because it's not what he wants and his lifestyle would not work for it. Forcing one or the other to change that for the others sake would not work, cause then said person would be leading a life not of their own choice.
As for the culture of Japan, being married is seen as an important thing. Especially when it comes to marrying into a good family/bloodline/etc. It's why parents will arrange meetings or even marriages to ensure this. And despite it being old fashion, it still equates to around 30% of actual marriages. Being together with someone without being married is seen as "wrong".
Look at Ton, he got married. Not for per say "It was what he wanted" but more "it was what he needed". Cause deep down her knew getting married would benefit him and his life for the better. (Even if he does has moments of wondering why he deals with it) It's why the idea was made clear to Retsuko. Is being with Tadano what she wants and if it is, will it benefit her and her life for the better? Or is she only doing what Tadano wants, leading a life that isn't hers?

Tadano is an awesome guy. I personally don't want kids so this man would be perfect for me. Marriage is overrated and just a way to show off how much money you have which, by today's standards, nobody does. Anyone who gets married usually divorces from a few months to even just a year afterwards anyway from all the debt they formed from splurging for one day.
Can't generalize everyone. Remember there are a lot of married couples who have lived their lives together n still do. Marriage may not work for everyone but doesn't mean it's not valuable to those who want it n are serious about it.

This shallow view of marriage is exactly why so many people get divorces nowadays. People are only looking at it from the material side of it (how much does this person make? Are they hot? Can we afford that big glamorous wedding?) Instead of what marriage really is. A promise that you’ll always be by that person’s side and that you’ll go through life together as a unit.
My parents got married at a park and each still have simple metal bands as their wedding rings. They’re gonna be coming up on their 36th anniversary this summer and I’ve never seen a couple so in love with each other still despite going through shit that would’ve wrecked other couples.

And while I can’t say anything about Japan’s laws, in the US spousal rights are a thing. If Tadano got hurt Retsuko wouldn’t be able to be by his side to help and vice-versa. If one of them got into legal trouble the other might be forced into talking. If Tadano prematurely died without writing a will Retsuko wouldn’t get any of his money to help raise the kids. Etc, etc. There’s a lot more to marriage than “just signing a piece of paper.”
