I've been following these latest Icelandic eruptions for the last couple of years and the only thing I gather from all of this is that it doesn't matter who you are whether you're a volcanologist or a geologist you have no idea what's going on any better than Roman or myself. We cannot predict what is going on inside 🌎

    • @Boop__Doop
      @Boop__Doop 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

it erupts pretty consistently between 20-40 days (usually closer to 20) and it seems to be generaly moving in the direction of grindavik

actually the experts there, do have an idea of what's going on....

Back in the 90s I used to think that way.
Until I realised the mathematical framework for predicting these events (eruptions) together with a set of tools from geology sides allow for a fairly reliable predictive work. We can decrease the degree of uncertainty by a lot.
The only thing we can't always predict is how deteriorated or compromised the soil and surrounding materials are, so these wall collapses can be surprising.
But it's not a mystery. We just have to pay attention and have in place the proper framework.

Haven't been following very closely it seems because the predictive track record of the Icelandic scientists is pretty good

I just wanted to leave a quick note to thank you. I have been fascinated by volcanism since I was a small child and so I was obviously compelled to follow this latest sequence of eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula from the very start. I obsessively check the statistics and streams every day. Every now and then I am surprised to discover a new YT channel providing a superb new perspective on the activity - and now you have really made my day! Thank You!! Subbed and added to my daily information search list. Best Wishes, Susi. XX

These eruptions are swallowing a bunch of what were once, decent sized hills, definitely changing the landscape. People being there, especially at night, i’m sure the security patrols are on alert, but they can’t watch the whole area. Stressful - and the holidays are coming which brings even more stress. Be careful on your hike, i know you have a drone, but maybe it’s too windy.

Thank you, Roman. That cone reminds me of 2021. I was trying to watch the stream from Afar TV last night, but the camera was shaking so much from wind, it was impossible. From what I could see, the cone was full, spilling lava all the time with occasional geysers.
May God bless you, too, especially out there in the freezing wind. Stay out of danger. 🇺🇲🧙🏼‍♂️

looking at the GPS data, the graph does not show a complete emptying out of the lava storage below, compared to the last eruption....it's GPS graph has leveled out over the past several days....maybe more lava is flowing into the upper chamber than we've seen previously, which also seems to be supplying a steady stream to the surface....I'm not an expert, just trying to make sense of the data available...what do you think?

Just the idea of rock being in a melted state is bizarre! Looks beautiful though. I grew up with three volcanoes in the distance outside my bedroom window (in the distance) and periodically two of them would erupt. (Mt Ruapehu & Mt Nguaruhoe). It's always odd to me to meet people from countries with no volcanoes, no earthquakes, and no tsunamis.

Thanks for the updates, Roman. I don’t check daily, but definitely appreciate all your efforts to pull all the current information for us.
What are the chances of the magma spreading beneath the entire area and everything becoming active, losing Blue Lagoon & Powerplant, Grindavik?

Started earlier than the other eruptions
And seems to be more active
Look at the historical records from about 1100 I think to have an idea how much magma is going to come from this eruption over the next 100 years
