I have in my pouch everyday all day the 180mm. I’m an electrician and it’s small enough to not weigh it down BUT the jaws are large enough to use on 3/4-1” conduit all day!
Once you get knipex it's hard not to wanna grab them everytime you need pliers. You can always count on them to grab and hold whatever your working on. Thanks for the video!
I have a 150 cobra and pliers wrench that I use for edc. I get the extra size and leverage of a larger tool while still being small enough to be pocketable.
Thank you, you helped. I carry a 125 in my leather belt organizer as an edc. But when in the shop i often wish it was a tad bigger. The 150 looks like it will do fine, one on the way. Thank you.
The 180 pliers wrench is the single most used tool in my toolbag. I also pocket carried the 150 pliers wrench and cobra for a while, but stopped working as a plumber before they could take the spot of the most used tools
As a German tool aficionado, it's much cheaper here to buy Knipexes, than in the US. Among professionals, there hardly is another brand. (I'm just a dedicated amateur). Either you buy no-name, or Knipex. The 150mm have always been my favorites. It's a class of it'd own. Of course, everyone knows and has a 250 mm or so, perhaps a bit smaller (180mm) or bigger (300mm). But that's for the big stuff. A 150mm Cobra beats every combination pliers (or Lineman's) by far, as far as the real grip is concerned, and it's so much handier! For 90% of all tasks, I prefer that size. The smaller ones are rather toys than tools, the bigger ones sure are stronger, but how often do you really need that strength? And it's pocketable, too!

The 180s are my go to for almost everything in my home tool box. But in my go bag, I keep a 250 because sometimes you just need the size. I also have a 300 in my truck but I've honestly never used them.
The 150 has a shorter head and jaws, with very small flat jaw part, making it unique and best suited for turning stuff in tight spaces and surrounded by other things, there is minimal jaw protrusion and the risk of catching or damaging something is very small.
I have all the sizes of cobra pliers except the biggest one. The 400 mm version is enough for me. I have the 250mm, in regular and the quickset version. But I agree with you, the 180 mm one is my favorite, it is permanently with me. I can do 80 % of my work with this one.
Yes, I have 8801250 the Alligator, and I must say, it's a overkill most of the times. It most usefull day to day feature is to really tightly squeeze, and bend soft metals
I've been using the 8" maximum pliers and just recently they broke, lasted a good 4 months im a maintenance tech so they were useful especially paired with my leather 300. Decide I wanted to try knipex the video definitely helped me choose the 7 1/4 definitely smaller smaller so easier for doing tap lines and smaller copper plumbing jobs under sinks and what not. Looking forward to getting some use out of them
Was watching this because I am deciding to stick with the 250 as my quick grab general purpose, then get 2 180 alligators for dual wield one handed use, and like you said in another video, they will be better for dirty jobs so good to have on hand. The 250 cobra is just indisputible as the king of this class
10in is good for general work, having a couple around is super handy. They failed me on unthreading my hot water tanks old gas pipe, had to use the snap on pwz pliers, thank goodness for those. Got the 12in for a future work, much more robust and thicker than the 10.
Even the 125mm is surprisingly useful in my opinion. It’s a tad small to handle but the reduced weight really makes up for that and it’s got more than enough range. I definitely use my 125mm much more often than the 250mm
Depends by the job. My first knipex was Cobra 300, a real Pump Plier, and i still have it. I think is the best plier for plumbers, speaking about jaw size, easy weight and torque generated with handels. Later i got Cobra 250 and 125 (for cable glands tideing) and paralel jaw pliers with 300 and 250 long sizes. Last ones especially for electrician tasks.
Yeah, I also thinking about grabing 180 cobra and 250 cobra with thiner jaws before the energy crisys fully hits German industry and prices skyrocket. And some more other German and Swiss tools
which one would be closer to the soze of my Channelock 420? lost my carry channel locks and I'm looking to replace them with knipex. I really liked the size of my 420s
I have two of the 180s and none of the 150s. There's a comment about the 150 having a smaller head, which does seem useful. At this point, I don't see the need with 125s always in play.
going to have to see what ones I have. I got the 3 pack. they were labelled the small medium and large. I know the biggest one our tool store has is the xxl I think thats the one you have featured there. Really like these tools. next for me is the raptor grip
"...next for me is the raptor grip" Those Raptors look cool... I bought a pair 2 or 3 years ago and have yet to find a use for them. Might I suggest waiting till you actually see & play with a pair before before deciding? They require a good bit of clearance around bolt heads or nuts for use...
@@rwbishop I use my small ones for pulling finish nails out of trim when we are doing trim carpentry. And various other things, more often than actually turning fastners. wondering if the raptors would do a better job
@@DylansDIYWorkshop Had to go look... Raptor jaws don't meet at the ends like most pliers, making them almost useless for pulling nails etc. Raptors appear to be custom tailored towards hexagon bolt heads & nuts. I bet there's TH-cam videos of them in use. Good Luck!
@@DylansDIYWorkshop More... I think for pulling finish nails & similar jobs, I'd reach for the 03 01 180, or 03 01 200 'Combination Pliers'. I've had a pair of the 180's for a good while that I use sometimes safety wiring... they're kind of a cross between small lineman's & duckbills with cutter... and reasonably priced!
Lost my 5" ones... as a journeyman plumber Who works on more so larger pipes, I will say those five inch cobras were used more than anything else in my tool bag.
Someone know why the 150 have a different stamp on the lower handle from the rest of the models? All the other models hava a "made in germany" stamped.

I've got an efficient YT workflow, and any additional computer-side work might derail my daily video schedule. I work full time, and travel quite a bit, so my simple approach to the channel is what keeps it alive. As you've seen many creators start fast and burn out. Simplicity is the key unless YT is your job. Stay safe.

Got mt first set yesterday. Started with the 180s, very happy with them. Going to grab some 5s for my pocket everyday and some 10s for pulling out freeze plugs at work. And then some twin grips just cause they sound handy.

I fully agree, the 180mm, in both Cobra & Alligator, is by far the most _overall_ useful size.

I got the 250 cobras and adjustable wrench. Found them a bit big for one job I needed them so bought the 150's of both and they are sweet

You make a good point. I'll be getting those two next. The only ones I don't own. The 150s could probably still be carried in the pocket.

180 is also best length for belt carry in a leather pouch.

For me this is a „crude“ tool. So i don‘t want a small one. When. I grab this then I‘m really yanking on something.

The brand is German, so it is pronounced K-ni-pex. A lot of us in North America just pronounce them nipex. Either way a great pliers brand.
