Education is 1.6% of exports, which account for about 1/3rd of our GDP. So this cuts our national GDP by over 0.5%, not counting any secondary spending these students do while studying here.
This will cap will reduce tuition collected in Ontario by ~25%.
How is this the right direction? Why not slowly reduce and then tie int'l student #'s to inflation or natural growth? This is just a knee-jerk reaction to the polls, and possibly the worst Liberal policy yet.

These "schools" became way too addicted to the money that international students bring completely at the expense of the community at large. While you have these schools stating that this is too drastic. Some would argue that this is still not drastic enough.
I would think that the best way to implement this system is to take the number of domestic students attending the institutions and then divide the allotment of how many international students they are allowed by what percentage they make up of the total student population per province.

International students bring cash to Canada for Canadians working at these colleges and universities. The money then circulates to all businesses in Canada. This money also subsidizes the fees of the Canadian students. So, let's increase taxes and pay for the Canadian students ourselves.

Are domestic students addicted to the money too? They've been paying subsidized tuition for a long time. Half of Ontario tuition comes from the 15-20% who are int'l students.
Now our students can go even deeper in debt. But some would argue not deep enough.

Shame on the colleges and individuals profiting of the mass suffering of Canadians and foreign students alike.
Unbelievable these institutions. In the first place they have made it so average Canadians can't afford to get educated, they exploit foreign money with bad programs and walk away with the profits. Secondly, the damage they have caused with this won't be truly felt for many years. You can't just explode a population with another culture and expect everything to be fine. These people coming in are punjabi and will act and vote in a way Canadians simply will never do with our culture. This is why Jagmeet is in power and punjabi have a massive voice in Canada, propping up the horrible government to 'fix health care' which obviously has not been achieved in any way shape or form, in 15 years punjabi will rule over Ontario as well, pushing for khalistan

@Metalblaze124 I totally agree that they did this to solve their funding problems. But, it was not their responsibility to manager the municipal population, or housing supply. More students means more jobs for the teachers, support staff, librarians, custodians and the other contractors who support the colleges and their function, maybe a new campus that creates jobs for construction workers. This is how the benefits trickle to the tax payers and Canadians. I wonder if the provinces will have to now fund some colleges even more than before and that means tax payers are on the hook. Also, if the tuition fees are raised to meet the shortfall in funding, the domestic students will pay more. There are side effects of this policy.

From experience it was a much better option living in a dorm room than living off campus. Off campus you have to consider substantially higher rent, commuting time. not able to be as involved in extra curricular activities/events. And lots of students can’t attend college unless they have a dorm option. Live 2 plus hours away from any college or the prestigious one. I'm willing to bet faculties are also being challenged to deliver consistent, quality education while compensating for diverse learning requirements.
