Daniel Barenboim has produced a modern straight strung grand. A noticeable difference in bass string resonance as compared to regular grands.
I enjoy the conversation. I simply love piano. :)
24:05 "You don't just put a grand piano in your house." Ahahaha. Out of context, no you definitely don't. We need dough for that. Dollar bills.
This was very interesting and very educational. I thought it was all about string length. Now I know.
Mason CC was 9'4" of thundering glory!
Does
Sorry I wasn't finished. What I ment to say is does Mason & Hamlin still make the CC?🎹🎶
@@MERCEDES-BENZS600GUARD_V12 Yes they do. They are super expensive though and I think the best concert grand in the world currently is the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX. Both share carbon fiber action technology however the Kawai company has been doing composite actions since 2006 and Mason is just now getting started. THere is also the pre aged soundboard of the Kawai
For some reason, I felt like the Baldwin had some tuning or voicing inconsistencies in the mid-range. Could just be my speakers, but I expected a much more pleasant tone there. I will say Kawai packs quite a bit into a small space there, but I wouldn't expect the same resonance at that size, so typically it wouldn't be a fair comparison.
baldwins do tend to be brighter which to my ear sounds a bit harsh - they dont have my favorite sound. the recording room is also not great for acoustics - hard walls and glass everywhere. the baldwin has such a big sound that im sure there is also more reflection into the microphone that the kawai doesnt suffer from quite as much.
Whatever grand = doesn't fit in my living room
No such thing as a piano that is too big. So a 9 foot Steinway or even larger. Mason Hamlin are just fine anywhere. Lol.
