- Mariah's irrepressible eccentricity once again took a starring role, behaving in a passive-agressive attitude towards Nicki Minaj and basically showing the problematic she has in trying to get along with other female artists. She then asked a guy with a stutter (in a segment that played my emotions like a harp), "Tell me about the way you speak - is that someone thing you're working on, or...?", and told a young woman "I know what it's like to sing through tears." She reported that Mariah is "the 62nd most popular name," and you know she takes all credit for that....

Nina R I totally agree with you. I love Mariah, but she was out of line here. Sometimes people need to think before they speak. I felt bad for the kid. People who stutter already feel worthless, insecure, and fearful of how others perceive them based on their inability to speak properly. There is no cure for stuttering, but there are techniques they can learn to help overcome some of the anxiety and fear, thus allowing the individual to speak in a way people can understand. I don't think Mariah was trying to be mean, but she could have used her brain, allowed the kid to sing first, then ask questions, instead, she went straight for the guns making his speech the focal point of the audition. People like this kid are actually less tolerant of themselves. I wish I could have heard him sing. Only hope he was able to remain calm and secure enough to perform well.

It's not appropriate and incredibly immature. I'm sure he felt ridiculous and bad afterwards. I certainly would. This horrible moment of Miss Carey is either a result of tasteless joking or unthought and bad/hurtful articulation. People trying to justify this particular moment are just hardcore fans. Giving her a pass won't do it for rational thinking and unbiased people. Everybody does mistakes. Let's hope she learned from it.

Jade Moreno she was asking a question about whether it’s something he’s working on... that’s not insulting. It’s curiosity. It’s wanting to be aware about something she’s not aware of. She wants to know if he’s “working on it” as in if it’s something that can improve and if he’s doing some things to improve it if it is possible to improve. If he’s working on it mentally, that he’s secure, knowing that he’s certain he’s motivated enough to continue and keep on going despite that impediment. It’s not at all insulting unless you think asking a question is insulting.

Smoked Apple it’s literally her job to ask about the contestant before the audition... it gives background information about the contestant to the judges so they understand the contestant and give a fair reference point from which they can judge him upon. there was no rude intention to what she said to him; it was rather a more interrogative question to learn about him.
