With the rise of Performance Max, many marketers have completely forgotten how to optimize their Merchant Centre feed and their Google Shopping Campaigns.
What many people don’t realize is that most of the sales in Performance Max, are actually coming from Google Shopping.
Learning how to optimize your feed and how to maximize Shopping sales, is vital to succeeding with Google ads. There also seems to be a rise in the use of Standard Shopping Campaigns due to a whole range of Pmax issues I’ve covered in other videos.
    Body Key Points:
There are 3 categories for Shopping Optimization
    1. The Merchant Centre Feed
    2. Campaign Level Optimizations
    3. Store Level Optimizations
This video will focus on the first, later videos will discuss the others.

Thanks so much for covering this! It's the most fiddly and frustrating part of using the Google sales channel by far, in fact I suspect it's what puts a lot of people off. I find it hard sometimes to understand why Google insists on specific metadata for certain products - makes no sense! And as for finding the right category, sometimes it's easy - like for a necklace - but sometimes there just doesn't seem to be a suitable one, like for metal art signs for instance. Lots of head-scratching. And as for the shipping policies, it's impossible to find one that suits what mine actually is. That said, I have had organic sales from free listings so I guess it's worth it!

The other thing Google does sometimes is randomly add a colour to the end of my product title, taken from my variant listing - resulting in my getting errors for titles that are too long!! I mean - wtf!!

Yeh they are adding a lot more random stuff in these days

You need to use shipping labels then. Use a custom feed to make it. Normally the easiest way if it doesn’t suit
