  • This calculus video tutorial explains how to use the disk method and the washer method to calculate the volume of a solid when the region enclosed by the curves are rotated around the x axis, y axis, and non axis or another line parallel to the x or y axis. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems for you to work on. It shows you how to set up and evaluate the definite integral. Techniques include expanding a binomial expression and basic integration rules.

    Hello can you please answer this question. How do you do washer method when you don’t know the graph of the equations, or they’re complicated to draw? Thank you

    • @AliBarisa
      @AliBarisa 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually, you don't have to draw if you are dealing with one equation such that f(x) rotated about the x-axis Or f(y) rotated about the y-axis. In each of these situations, the volume is V=π(R^2)h and can be obtained by taking the antiderivative/integration of π(R^2) since h becomes dx when R(x) and h becomes dy when R(y).
      V=antiderivative of π(R)^2dx or πR^2dy, whichever is applicable.
      For example, y=4x+3, then R(x)=4x+3.
      So, V=antiderivative of π[4x+3]^2 dx
      And example 2, x=2y^2-3 then R(y)=2^2-3.
      V= antiderivative of π(2y^2-3)^2 dy

    correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the washer method the one that involves two functions on the graph (ex: y = 2x, y = 5x + 1)? If so, I didn't notice the washer method in this video, only the disc method.

    • @ulasdevrim7492
      @ulasdevrim7492 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are right but they are basically the same thing anyway. As you said, the washer method involves two functions and you apply the disc method twice and substract the little one fromm the bigger one.

    The title is misleading. There was no explanation for the washer method. I understand you are trying to get your bag with patreon, but man... at least include examples with the washer method or when the axis of rotation is not the x/y axis.

      No, Washer is with big radius and little radius.
      B
      Pi |((R(x))^2 - (r(y))^2)dx
      A
      Same for Y axis.

      I saw someone saying the washer is only used when you rotate with a bottom line that's curved and not straight like x/y axiis. Like rotating the area between two functions
