  • In Monterey County, California, the Cal Flats solar facility generates enough solar energy to renewably power 100,000 homes a year. Excess energy from Arevon's 280 MW solar panel system is stored in a 240 MWh Megapack, one of the largest battery installations in the U.S.

@@hrissan To replace a 1-gigawatt (GW) nuclear power plant with Tesla Megapack batteries, we need to consider two factors: energy storage capacity (measured in megawatt-hours, MWh) and power output capacity (measured in megawatts, MW).
Assuming the nuclear power plant operates at a capacity factor of about 90%, it would produce:
      1 GW * 0.9 * 24 hours = 21,600 MWh of energy per day.
A single Tesla Megapack has a capacity of 3 MWh. To store this amount of energy, you would need:
      21,600 MWh / 3 MWh = 7,200 Megapacks.
However, this only addresses the energy storage aspect. To deliver the same 1 GW of power, you would also need the Megapacks to have sufficient power output capacity.
Each Tesla Megapack can output 1.5 MW. So, to achieve a 1 GW power output, you would need:
1,000 MW / 1.5 MW = 666.67 ≈ 667 Megapacks. or 9 months of the total production of the Laythrop faciity
In conclusion, you would need 7,200 Tesla Megapacks for energy storage and 667 Megapacks for power output. The larger number (7,200) determines the total number of Megapacks needed to replace a 1 GW nuclear power plant. However, this is a simplified analysis that doesn't account for factors like the efficiency of energy conversion, the need for redundancy, or the fact that energy storage systems are not meant to replace baseload power generation sources like nuclear power plants.
But to answer your question $14.4 Billion a lot of money but: A nuclear power plant being built in Georgia is now projected to cost its owners more than $30 billion.
A financial report from one of the owners on Friday clearly pushed the cost of Plant Vogtle near Augusta past that milestone, bringing its total cost to $30.34 billion
That amount doesn’t count the $3.68 billion that original contractor Westinghouse paid to the owners after going bankrupt, which would bring total spending to more than $34 billion.
And no radiation to deal with

Now, we only need like 500x more? I know, that sounds sarcastic, but, it was a whopping 1,500x "more" (really) just 3 years ago (battery day mention).
So, at this rate of exponential growth, most the world should be battery powered and solar/wind charged within 10 to 15 years 🌞

We just need to clear the existing backed up 2,000+gwhs renewable energy interconnection ques actually and presto 80-90% renewable powered grid with quite a bit of battery storage. Nuclear can fill in the rest with some gas as a last resort. 👍🏻

@@4literv6 at somepoint the gas has to go and in my oppion nuclear is too expensive and here atleast we bassicly just need the batterys 5gwh and we be golden and we got no nuclear at the momement so thats a thing closeing nuclear is insane to me and but building new onces makes little senes to me as well due to the high cost and the long installation time plus the amount of space a nuclear plant truely uses are a bit much

@@pingvingaming idk imo nuclear has always been demonized and likely by the fossil fuel industry. Per gwh generated it is the safest most reliable form of modern energy generation, and molten salt or modular reactors have a lot of promise.
Also to consider? Here in the U.S. about 60 operating nuke plants continually provide 20%+of all our power needs. It takes over 3,600+other power generation plant locations to get the rest. 🙂

@@4literv6 can't argue about the safety thats settled. In the US it may be a good idea the infrastructure or at least a foundation is there to expand on but i see it
but for a country there have no natural resource in the form of metal or uranium it just dosnt make a lot of sens invensting in a technology that probbly most likely would never pay itself off due to the insanely cost of building it when wind and solar is getthing cheaper and more efficent every month it seems like plus in my case at least we already at 70% renewable with wind only soo adding nuclear to the mix at htis point is pointless nuclear makes sense somewhere but not everywhere same goes for wind and solar

Also assuming the acreage is accurate. 2,900 acres of solar real estate even if those 100,000 homes were only sitting on a half Acre (sub division homes) that's using 2,900 acres to power 50,000 acres worth of property. Which is pretty efficient land usage wise.
However I still believe Elon and the Tesla Solar team should explore developing solar out on the ocean. But that has challenges of its own I'm sure but still free acreage out there as far as keeping long term civilization land needs in mind.
