It's rather sad, because this game reflects the current problem with our society on the whole planet, the problem with young people, with lies, with business practices, greed, ruthless calculation and psychology of businessmen. I have a few friends who are addicted to opening those (FIFA) packs, it's sad to see them spend their hard earned money on this nonsense. I have never heard from them that the packs would give them anything good.

But I think it was about 40 minutes in when I was distracted by my kittens and I saw some footage and for a couple moments I thought it was from a decade old predecessor judging from the graphics before I realised it was Madden 2022.

The studios that run these games are absolutely predatory and greedy, but hundreds of thousands of people still play-because it’s the only access to a Star Wars game. Once you become the sole developer of a game that has as large a notoriety as Star Wars, you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Tried to play both a regular franchise and a fantasy draft with my friend in Madden 23. I got kicked 7 or 8 times and the game wiped our progress in the fantasy draft 3 times. We JUST bought this game yesterday…
To be honest, the PS2 Madden games were the best Maddens ever. I fondly remember playing Madden 08 and having a lot of fun against historic all-time great teams like the 80s 49ers and 70s Steelers, as well as the special gimmick teams like the 99 overrall practice dummy team. Madden 08, which came out in 2007, had more features and game modes and was a better overall experience. Historic teams, fantasy mode, create a team, 99 overall special teams (there were 3-4 of them and they all had a unique gimmick like the practice dummy team), etc. Can they just do a remaster of Madden 08 with modern graphics and change literally nothing else about it?
As a "veteran" Battlefield player, some of my friends always sorta liked that EA destroyed the sports genre and not the FPS one but sad to say they've decided to kill Battlefield as well. Every franchise they touch gets turned into a lazy cash cow. I can only pray that Respawn Entertainment smartens the fuck up and gets out from under their grasp.
I went to game development school and they never change they don't think outside of the box just keep the same formula and the so called new game developers today have gotten sloppy and probably will not last long in the industry

@TH-cam Account EA can publish a decent game every now and again. Games like Fallen Order, Titanfall, the NFS games. The issue is, EAs scummy nature just really shines through with their sports titles, which also happen to be their most profitable.

The NFL really needs to pull the license at this point and put it up for different developers to have a crack at. It's beyond embarrassing what EA are doing with the license.
What really needs to happen, is someone needs to make a football game that just doesn't use the NFL licensing. Just make up fake teams, and focus all their money and time on the actual gameplay. Same thing needs to happen with Basketball and soccer as well. If someone else would just make a game good enough to get popular, then maybe the major leagues would consider splitting the licence at that point.

However, as 2ksports quickly found out if you don't have the pro licensing, people won't buy it. It's sad really because at this point APF 2K8 is still 1000x better than current madden games and this is a game from 2007.

I used to play Madden 06 and 08 back on the PS2. They were so much fun back then all the minigames you could play. The new ones don’t look anywhere near as fun.
There was so much cool shit in the PS2 version of 08, back when most publishers still gave a shit about the products they were putting out. I could go back and play it now and have a good time even though I kinda lost intrest in football.
I don't even watch football really, but I still come back for this yearly tradition, because this game is a bad influence for EA, and Gaming in General

After all these decades, with the budget and profits that EA has and how much the IRL sport of football doesnt change much in terms of fundamentals, Madden games should be filled with content by now. Near-photorealistic graphics, weather affects, crowds, character models, referees. Licensed music half time shows. Accurate and buttery smooth animations, UI, nearly no bugs. Interactive crowds. In-depth character creator. Many modes, more sandbox type stuff. But no, we live in the darkest timeline where, thanks to the monopoly and rampant corporate monetization schemes in the industry, players get the bare minimum: roster updates and repackaged features. No innovations, stagnation, filled with monetization. The same bugs and graphics. Yearly mediocrity.
Weird tangent, but it relates to the training and schedule stuff. Joe and friends, I recall one of my only fully played sports game experiences in my life very fondly. With a combination of great direction, controls, and gameplay that honestly felt fair and enjoyable through its entirety : Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2. And yes, I realize it’s not an official league related affair. But I feel it captured what a sports game should be on a basic level. Even the training sessions were games you played. And how well you did affected how quickly you leveled, and your increase in level would affect the difficulty of the mini game going forward. Was it repetitive? Yes. But I can say sports games as a whole have that description on lock. They made level grinding fun and not feel like a slow and painful death. I can still hear the trainer “low high low high low low” “your turn, you try” “stop! Here I go” omg the cheesiness and I loved it.
dude the Fight Night franchise was AWESOME! but it wasnt profitable enough for the greedy assholes at EA so they did away with it. It had tons of awesome mini games for training and such.
I really expected nothing more from Madden and nothing less from AJS to straight-up *spike* this game into the ground like the deflated football that it is every year. These reviews will never get old, and respect for you guys to keep up this tradition.

And the real kicker of it all is that there are still people falling for EA's trap and are happy to spend even more money for less quality over and over every year like it's a secret American tradition because football is such a popular sport in this country. Then NFL game is just going to be the same as EA because theres nothing you can do to innovate. Especially when football (both US and EU) has been the same game for longer than we've been born. You cant make new maps becase it has to be a rectangle only. You cant give players skills because football players fit cookie cutter roles and anyone trying to do two roles at once is gonna be broken or a shitty red mage for lack of better word. Its just the nature of sports games because you cannot do anything else but replicate the sport.

Yeah some of it was about things not changing but the majority was about things that were taken out that almost everyone enjoyed or things that EA has already implemented but renamed to make it look new. It's about how they have been lying to the consumers for years now & when they are called out for it they & all the MUT fanboys get butthurt. And speaking of MUT that's all Madden is to EA now & everyone knows it. Hell even EA knows it they just act like it isn't. A very large majority of fans have wanted them to refocus on franchise & make it more like it USED to be with team creation & so on, but this doesn't make EA millions of dollars every year through "crisp" pack openings. So people aren't angry because the lack of innovation, they're angry because things were removed that were in the older Maddens that quite basically almost everyone enjoyed. The state of sports games today is maddening and depressing. I grew up mostly in the 2000s so I was spoiled with NBA Street, NBA Ballers, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, MVP Baseball 05, Madden 04/05, ESPN 2k5, ESPN MLB, Blitz, NFL Street, Backyard Football. Basically great choices for basketball, baseball, american football, football, golf, etc etc. Even great NCAA games. Great choices for extreme sports like Tony Hawk, SSX, Dave Mirra BMX, Skate series, ATV Offrad Fury. It sucks these days. 2K/EA have ruined it all.
I havent played a Madden game since they were on the SNES, but I watch every single one of these reviews because you can hear the passion in Joe's voice, how much he truly cares about the franchise, only to be disappointed year after year.
I heard that this is just a problem across all sports games. It’s been going on for a long time because of these exclusive contracts EA kept getting and they lost all competition. With that loss of competition a lack of motivation to do anything beyond bare minimum to avoid lawsuits for false advertising took hold as well.
It's gotten so bad that they're even starting to ruin the F1 games, some of the best sports games on the market, low and behold because EA bought Codemasters.

Mostly yes this is across all sports games. But ill give 2K some credit as they produce a product that's much more engaging, entertaining, graphical fidelity is much better and they focus on details like crowds/fans and the immersion of on and off field things. That being said the last couple have really been lackluster and non innovative as well and they are starting to become complacent like EA. But EA also makes NBA basketball games. Most people don't know that because 2K is so much better of a product that NBA live is unheard of. So running on that alone you could see how competitors are a good thing in every industry and how much better we could be getting if Roger Goodell wasn't a 2 bit fucktard who cares only about his wealth and not any of the people that bring it to him. Fuck Goodells bitch ass for not only monopolizing making football games. But for doing so then giving EA the fucking rights over and over and over 😒. It's rather sad, because this game reflects the current problem with our society on the whole planet, the problem with young people, with lies, with business practices, greed, ruthless calculation and psychology of businessmen. I have a few friends who are addicted to opening those (FIFA) packs, it's sad to see them spend their hard earned money on this nonsense. I have never heard from them that the packs would give them anything good.

But I think it was about 40 minutes in when I was distracted by my kittens and I saw some footage and for a couple moments I thought it was from a decade old predecessor judging from the graphics before I realised it was Madden 2022.

The studios that run these games are absolutely predatory and greedy, but hundreds of thousands of people still play-because it’s the only access to a Star Wars game. Once you become the sole developer of a game that has as large a notoriety as Star Wars, you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Tried to play both a regular franchise and a fantasy draft with my friend in Madden 23. I got kicked 7 or 8 times and the game wiped our progress in the fantasy draft 3 times. We JUST bought this game yesterday…

To be honest, the PS2 Madden games were the best Maddens ever. I fondly remember playing Madden 08 and having a lot of fun against historic all-time great teams like the 80s 49ers and 70s Steelers, as well as the special gimmick teams like the 99 overrall practice dummy team. Madden 08, which came out in 2007, had more features and game modes and was a better overall experience. Historic teams, fantasy mode, create a team, 99 overall special teams (there were 3-4 of them and they all had a unique gimmick like the practice dummy team), etc. Can they just do a remaster of Madden 08 with modern graphics and change literally nothing else about it?

As a "veteran" Battlefield player, some of my friends always sorta liked that EA destroyed the sports genre and not the FPS one but sad to say they've decided to kill Battlefield as well. Every franchise they touch gets turned into a lazy cash cow. I can only pray that Respawn Entertainment smartens the fuck up and gets out from under their grasp.
I went to game development school and they never change they don't think outside of the box just keep the same formula and the so called new game developers today have gotten sloppy and probably will not last long in the industry

What really needs to happen, is someone needs to make a football game that just doesn't use the NFL licensing. Just make up fake teams, and focus all their money and time on the actual gameplay. Same thing needs to happen with Basketball and soccer as well. If someone else would just make a game good enough to get popular, then maybe the major leagues would consider splitting the licence at that point.

However, as 2ksports quickly found out if you don't have the pro licensing, people won't buy it. I used to play Madden 06 and 08 back on the PS2. They were so much fun back then all the minigames you could play. The new ones don’t look anywhere near as fun.
There was so much cool shit in the PS2 version of 08, back when most publishers still gave a shit about the products they were putting out. I could go back and play it now and have a good time even though I kinda lost intrest in football.

Made me smile when Joe said grab some food and drink and enjoy. That is exactly how I like to enjoy this show, so entertaining every time, they never miss!
After all these decades, with the budget and profits that EA has and how much the IRL sport of football doesnt change much in terms of fundamentals, Madden games should be filled with content by now. Near-photorealistic graphics, weather affects, crowds, character models, referees. Licensed music half time shows. Accurate and buttery smooth animations, UI, nearly no bugs. Interactive crowds. In-depth character creator. Many modes, more sandbox type stuff. But no, we live in the darkest timeline where, thanks to the monopoly and rampant corporate monetization schemes in the industry, players get the bare minimum: roster updates and repackaged features. No innovations, stagnation, filled with monetization. The same bugs and graphics. Yearly mediocrity.

Mediocrity is being kind to describe Madden (and this goes for FIFA as well yet somehow they're innovating slightly more there than Madden).

Weird tangent, but it relates to the training and schedule stuff. Joe and friends, I recall one of my only fully played sports game experiences in my life very fondly. With a combination of great direction, controls, and gameplay that honestly felt fair and enjoyable through its entirety : Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2. And yes, I realize it’s not an official league related affair. But I feel it captured what a sports game should be on a basic level. Even the training sessions were games you played. And how well you did affected how quickly you leveled, and your increase in level would affect the difficulty of the mini game going forward. Was it repetitive? Yes. But I can say sports games as a whole have that description on lock. They made level grinding fun and not feel like a slow and painful death. I can still hear the trainer “low high low high low low” “your turn, you try” “stop! Here I go” omg the cheesiness and I loved it.
dude the Fight Night franchise was AWESOME! but it wasnt profitable enough for the greedy assholes at EA so they did away with it. It had tons of awesome mini games for training and such.
I can't lie, I've been waiting for this rant. A 3 out of 10. Sounds like a step in the right direction to me.

I really expected nothing more from Madden and nothing less from AJS to straight-up *spike* this game into the ground like the deflated football that it is every year. These reviews will never get old, and respect for you guys to keep up this tradition.

@@solosolo8610 It really boggles my mind that this perfect storm of being the only "authentic" football simulation with no competition, can continue to thrive off of using the same engine with the same old textures and putting so little effort into as to reuse the same old assets from previous games and call them "new" on top of being filled with more technical issues and performance bugs every single year. So much for being the most polished Madden in a long time. And the real kicker of it all is that there are still people falling for EA's trap and are happy to spend even more money for less quality over and over every year like it's a secret American tradition because football is such a popular sport in this country. It's ridiculous.

Then NFL game is just going to be the same as EA because theres nothing you can do to innovate. Especially when football (both US and EU) has been the same game for longer than we've been born. You cant make new maps becase it has to be a rectangle only. You cant give players skills because football players fit cookie cutter roles and anyone trying to do two roles at once is gonna be broken or a shitty red mage for lack of better word. Its just the nature of sports games because you cannot do anything else but replicate the sport.

Yeah some of it was about things not changing but the majority was about things that were taken out that almost everyone enjoyed or things that EA has already implemented but renamed to make it look new. It's about how they have been lying to the consumers for years now & when they are called out for it they & all the MUT fanboys get butthurt. And speaking of MUT that's all Madden is to EA now & everyone knows it. Hell even EA knows it they just act like it isn't.
A very large majority of fans have wanted them to refocus on franchise & make it more like it USED to be with team creation & so on, but this doesn't make EA millions of dollars every year through "crisp" pack openings. So people aren't angry because the lack of innovation, they're angry because things were removed that were in the older Maddens that quite basically almost everyone enjoyed. If MUT, the microtransaction of Madden, isn't the main focus of EA then why do they mainly partner with MUT streamers/youtubers?

2k can't come out with its game fast enough. EA just signed it's exclusive deal again but 2k is allowed to make a arcade style game. I hope they blur tf out of those lines
The fact that the game has an audience Rating of 1.7 and was top seller in august shows how little hope is left for sports games

As a pretty hardcore football fan, it's just so frustrating and depressing. I want to love this franchise so much like I used to.
The state of sports games today is maddening and depressing. I grew up mostly in the 2000s so I was spoiled with NBA Street, NBA Ballers, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, MVP Baseball 05, Madden 04/05, ESPN 2k5, ESPN MLB, Blitz, NFL Street, Backyard Football. Basically great choices for basketball, baseball, american football, football, golf, etc etc. Even great NCAA games. Great choices for extreme sports like Tony Hawk, SSX, Dave Mirra BMX, Skate series, ATV Offrad Fury.
It sucks these days. 2K/EA have ruined it all.
I havent played a Madden game since they were on the SNES, but I watch every single one of these reviews because you can hear the passion in Joe's voice, how much he truly cares about the franchise, only to be disappointed year after year.
Honestly they haven't been good since the PS2 days when they had competition to deal with. So your not missing much.
Even though the madden series brings down Joes life expectancy we appreciate the sacrifice for damn good entertainment

I heard that this is just a problem across all sports games. It’s been going on for a long time because of these exclusive contracts EA kept getting and they lost all competition. With that loss of competition a lack of motivation to do anything beyond bare minimum to avoid lawsuits for false advertising took hold as well.
Well that plus player packs…Anybody ok w buying player packs is ok w getting completely fucked in the ass..
It's gotten so bad that they're even starting to ruin the F1 games, some of the best sports games on the market, low and behold because EA bought Codemasters.

Mostly yes this is across all sports games. But ill give 2K some credit as they produce a product that's much more engaging, entertaining, graphical fidelity is much better and they focus on details like crowds/fans and the immersion of on and off field things. That being said the last couple have really been lackluster and non innovative as well and they are starting to become complacent like EA.
But EA also makes NBA basketball games. Most people don't know that because 2K is so much better of a product that NBA live is unheard of. So running on that alone you could see how competitors are a good thing in every industry and how much better we could be getting if Roger Goodell wasn't a 2 bit fucktard who cares only about his wealth and not any of the people that bring it to him.
Fuck Goodells bitch ass for not only monopolizing making football games. But for doing so then giving EA the fucking rights over and over and over 😒. Goodell doesn't give a fuck about Madden or the quality of the game as long as he's getting his billions for the license it will continue with a big 🖕 to every football gamer.
I have never played these games for any significant amount of time but, watching him tear it apart has become a yearly tradition now
