Wow...love this. Our family gatherings always utilized this beautiful worship chorus before the meal. The patriarchal “Uncle Clayton” had a beautiful bass voice that anchored the harmonizing in a way that still stirs my emotions. I miss him. Beautiful job you guys...I love the spirit(Spirit) of family represented in your singing.
A good bass voice will secure a Christian hymn like nothing else. I always feel that it represents Gods magnificent sovereignty and his powerful loving kindness…
A perfect song for Thanksgiving. We sang the doxology at the end of every church service when I was growing up. I never thought about it being sung any other time or place.
We used to sing this at my wife’s family gatherings. I miss those days... now most of the family aren’t even living for Christ ( including my wife’s parents and most aunts and uncles ) this makes me so nostalgic for more Godly times. Lest my comment sound judgemental… I too have struggled greatly to remain in Christ through the years… I was persecuted heavily at my work for living out my faith and I was fired because of it… I didn’t know how I would provide for my family and I was very afraid. I literally BEGGED my wife’s parents and our church leadership to pray over us in this time of crises; but I was laughed at. The love for Jesus is not even present in most “ believers “ anymore.
My wife and I have one baby boy, and this is the family we seek to create.

Just came across this. I know it is in a Methodist Hymnal because I grew up in a methodist church and we sang it every Sunday.
