A good backstory is like the anchor of a ship. Something to keep your character grounded in the rough times, something to be drugged up and exposed, and sometimes something that needs to be laid bare and untouched for a while to allow your character to go places.

He then escaped and relearned to talk common and even evolved to speak telepathically, now he just wants to live peacefully, doing magic tricks for children, playing chess and joking about himself

My turn: Abyss Froststar, later renamed and titled Abyss "Greyback" Froststar - Orc friend, is a mighty 6'6" white Tiefling barbarian hailing from the frozen north. Throughout his early life, living and working around his village, he learned that humankind did not treat his so kindly do to their infernal heritage, and grew to dislike them as a whole. Then when his father allowed him to start working as a convoy escort he gave him this advice, "Mistrusting those that treat you poorly is fair, but always remember that those that are willing to part with their coin are always tolerable." Finally the day came when Abyss felt the urge to venture out from home without the call of coin as his guide, and so he readied a pack and said his goodbye's before stepping out into the wide world to see what it provided. 10 years later Abyss would emerge into society with his new name and title, now wielding a mighty orcish made waraxe (a parting gift from his friend and clan brother Orlic Greymane clan chief). And this is where his campaign would begin if we could ever schedule a starting date.
Older editions of D&D had playable Fairies and Pixies through books like Savage Species (from 3rd edition). Dnd has always been a free form game allowing players to homebrew whatever they want though, assuming you know how the format for that edition.

There's a bunch of species that don't actually exist in the books but have been "fanfic'd" into existence on the internet. For example, i played a merfolk once, and since they aren't in the book i had to look up stats and traits that others had come up with so i could craft my character.
That's a beautiful backstory and I got so absorbed I actually said "oh no..." out loud when Robin didn't come back....I do hope he was merely captured instead of killed and that Plumeria can find him again.

Ran a game where the party encountered a group of fairies who harassed the party trying to find one of their kidnaped fairy sister. The group eventually made a deal with the cadre of fairies to rescue their lost sister. Made for an interesting side quest.

So from her perspective, she thinks that she didn't fleshed out her OC and the world around her all that much, but for the rest of us she pretty much did the pilot of an anime in less than 20 minutes, that's impressive.
I actually like making characters. If anything is still unclear, I could perhaps assist. There are a lot of confusing aspects, especially for someone who hasn't made a character before.

I'm making a fairy character too. Her name is Sundew and she is based on Sundews in terms of coloring. I also imagine she has a little bubble that looks like a sundew glob on her forehead. She was a warlock who basically had a magic queen bee as a patron. I saw a thing saying fairies were born from natural occurrences so she was born from a Sundew eating a bee. Also, she takes care of bees. At one point, she found a flower favored by a verdant prince and gave it to her bees and when they used the pollen and stuff to make some honey and royal jelly, it gave the queen bee much greater power. This angered the verdant prince, so she was exiled along with her bees. She's going to be fun. I'm using her as a DMPC to help some story stuff and because I like to play with them more than tell the story.
Your fairy lore is so much better than the official DnD fairy origins they came up with. I'd use yours in a DnD session over the official one in a heartbeat.
Well that's actually an interesting backstory if you ask me, setting off on a journey to collect the pieces of their past _(whoever your character is)_ meets different people and goes to places they may or may not have been to before, what caused their amnesia? Was it some terrible post incident trauma? Stolen by an unknown entity? Or perhaps someone rid them of their memory to protect them? *An adventure awaits...*
@@_null9512 Indeed. An unforeseeable future is quite a journey while a mysterious past is quite the curiosity, so why not land in-between and walk along a path unknown yet familiar? Who would you meet along the road, would they be friends or foe of past or future? Maybe an enemy of the past but now a friend in the present? Perhaps, once your trusted friend now your sworn enemy? Would you revel in a sight you both knew and knew not? Will the shrouded past ever resurface into the present and henceforth the future? Should the past even be dug up into the present or is it better buried and forgotten? Which "you" should you keep? Would you keep them separate or would they become one? Many question lay before you and many more beyond. How it is answered and whether it was right or wrong, only time and the "you" in the future can tell.
After a playing took amnesiac as a negative trait. However he also took a trait that would make him betray the team. So I made him a sleeper agent for a mega-Corp. oh also this game ain’t dnd it’s called shadowrun and it’s neat.
PS: You can now play an actual fairy in DnD, officially! It's Unearthed Arcana and I think you currently can only access it for free in DnD Beyond, but it's coming out officially with a sourcebook that's (I'm pretty sure) Fey-themed!!

my character was a Felis (a cute cat little guy) named Kitty. (I know, original.) He was a nice, happy little guy, and would convince people to go help him with something. His race is Chaotic Evil. He tricked people into following him where he could kill them with a magic spell quickly and take their stuff. (come to think of it he was kinda like Flowey from Undertale)

Older editions of D&D had playable Fairies and Pixies through books like Savage Species (from 3rd edition). Dnd has always been a free form game allowing players to homebrew whatever they want though, assuming you know how the format for that edition.

There's a bunch of species that don't actually exist in the books but have been "fanfic'd" into existence on the internet. For example, i played a merfolk once, and since they aren't in the book i had to look up stats and traits that others had come up with so i could craft my character.
if you wanna play that race, because you REALLY wanna play that race, I'd allow it. If you want to min max, play something else.

Ran a game where the party encountered a group of fairies who harassed the party trying to find one of their kidnaped fairy sister. The group eventually made a deal with the cadre of fairies to rescue their lost sister. Made for an interesting side quest.

To make a character, all you need is the players handbook and a character sheet that you can easily print out

My conclusion: This character has at minimum flirted with every single elf that has crossed paths with her.
I'm making a fairy character too.
Her name is Sundew and she is based on Sundews in terms of coloring. I also imagine she has a little bubble that looks like a sundew glob on her forehead. She was a warlock who basically had a magic queen bee as a patron. I saw a thing saying fairies were born from natural occurrences so she was born from a Sundew eating a bee. Also, she takes care of bees. At one point, she found a flower favored by a verdant prince and gave it to her bees and when they used the pollen and stuff to make some honey and royal jelly, it gave the queen bee much greater power. This angered the verdant prince, so she was exiled along with her bees.
She's going to be fun. I'm using her as a DMPC to help some story stuff and because I like to play with them more than tell the story.

Well that's actually an interesting backstory if you ask me, setting off on a journey to collect the pieces of their past _(whoever your character is)_ meets different people and goes to places they may or may not have been to before, what caused their amnesia? Was it some terrible post incident trauma? Stolen by an unknown entity? Or perhaps someone rid them of their memory to protect them?
*An adventure awaits...*
@@_null9512 Indeed. An unforeseeable future is quite a journey while a mysterious past is quite the curiosity, so why not land in-between and walk along a path unknown yet familiar? Who would you meet along the road, would they be friends or foe of past or future? Maybe an enemy of the past but now a friend in the present? Perhaps, once your trusted friend now your sworn enemy? Would you revel in a sight you both knew and knew not? Will the shrouded past ever resurface into the present and henceforth the future? Should the past even be dug up into the present or is it better buried and forgotten? Which "you" should you keep? Would you keep them separate or would they become one? Many question lay before you and many more beyond. How it is answered and whether it was right or wrong, only time and the "you" in the future can tell.

my character was a Felis (a cute cat little guy) named Kitty. (I know, original.) He was a nice, happy little guy, and would convince people to go help him with something.
His race is Chaotic Evil. He tricked people into following him where he could kill them with a magic spell quickly and take their stuff.
