I don't know why but even the image quality looks so much better when I compare it to my s9 plus. Definitely a phone worth it's money
I bought one and am loving it. I can't believe Oppo can produce such a great phone for under $500. It runs beautifully, the fingerprint sensor works flawlessly and fast and the face unlock is amazing... almost instant. The Helio P90 almost made me think twice about getting it but it is a super chip, it runs better than my old V30+ with the S835. I really can't fault it (especially for the price). I don't do any gaming so having a super powerful GPU isn't important to me but regardless, the P90 is more than adequate. As for the camera... WOW! for under $500 the camera in this is amazing. I honestly believe the pics are better than any other phone I've owned and I have had a pixel XL and a mi Mix 3. The pics are so clear and sharp they almost look surreal :D Overall I am uber impressed. Oppo have a big seller here I think.

Just picked up a Reno Z from JB HiFi for $475 and it's a fabulous phone for the money! IMHO it is better value than the identically priced Samsung A50 with double the onboard memory and an extra 2GB of RAM as well as very decent sounding stereo speakers. The only area where the A 50 beats it is that its memory is expendable using a micro SD card. Oh by the way, awesome review!
Got this phone 2 days ago, and I'm impressed. Previous phone was an iPhone 7 Plus, and before that was pixel. I switch my phones every 2 years alternating between Android and iOS. I tend to also stick to the higher end phones. But this phone, man, for $499, it's pretty good.
Great review I bought this brand new £169 on this review perhaps the best phone I have ever had punches well above it's weight.. Just updated to Android 10
Hey, Nice one...it need a tiny week to manage with Color OS. On Color OS 5.1, true, it is possible to change launcher...it's a bit different than on Google's Android, but it's a more logical way, don't you think so : Load your third party launcher, Have a look on Settings-App Management-Defaut App Management-Home screen, then choose your launcher...it's probably the same on ColorOS6.0...I'm using an Oppo A3 since september 2018, I'm on 05 july 2019 security patch too. (Sorry for my English...)
As an older lady I am not into games at all. But a little disappointed in the front facing camera over exposing like it does. But that on its own has not turned me off by any means the only selfies I do is about once a year or two to update my profile photo for facebook and what not. Long last I found a reviewer that I can understand and does not talk 100 mile an hour. Ill subscribe. Great review for me as I can't justify 7, 8 900 upwards dollars for a phone that I use use all of the fang dangles but want a nice phone. and good enough for me.
Hi little bitty, appreciate you subscribing and taking the time out to comment. Hopefully oppo release an update for the front cam. Thanks for watching the video.
Thanks mate. Nice concise review covering all the important things. Love your style. Keep it up. Moving on from my old and much loved Galaxy S5 and I reckon you've sold me.
I got a used Reno Z at $280 AUD fantastic phone for how much these sell for new now for those that are " gaming " on their phones it's quite good with the 8 GB ram great display too there's plenty of other cheaper phones with 4GB ram and reasonable amount of memory for the lower budgets the Reno Z I think is the best value for the money honestly I can't believe these sell at $399 AUD new now
I sold my OPPO Reno and regretted it shortly after. I then got the Reno Z instead and have to say, I even like this better, sturdier, even better battery life and better sound thanks to stereo speakers. At 350 Euro this is a steal, although it just comes with 4 GB RAM here in Europe.
@@conorphoto I have been using OPPO handsets for many years now, and I agree they have come a very long way especially in terms of software and also things like NFC ☺️
My friend had the Oppo Reno Z and I noticed that when they viewed Instagram stories they were very choppy and basically had a low frame rate. I wanted the phone though because it's pretty awesome and the camera is great, and I assumed that they had a fault with their phone. But I literally recieved my brand new Oppo Reno Z today and viewing Instagram stories is still choppy as hell. I put it next to my Samsung A70 and watched both screens as I viewed the same stories and the A70 was so much better. Everything else on the Oppo is fine to be honest and if you're not as fussed about viewing Instagram stories like me then it's great.
Hi Rebecca thanks for watching. Is your settings in the Instagram app set to Data saver. Or if the phone itself is in data saver mode it could restrict the video quality.
@@curlylokx7044 ok go to your profile then at the top right of your screen there is 3 lines, tap on the 3 lines then you will see settings at the bottom of your screen, tap settings. Then choose "account " from the list. Then choose "cellular data use" then toggle off "data saver". Hope this works for you 👍👍👍
I switch from my huawei mate 20 pro to the oppop reno z and I'm Surprise how good the reno z can be at that price point. Overall it is a very good phone.

Hey I had to return my Reno z after a few days in Aus due to an issue that once I left the house and it changed from wifi to 4g it wouldn’t connect to data on the 4g network I’d have to reboot it daily to connect to 4g also if it was connected to android auto in the car when listening to downloaded podcasts (not streaming)and using WAZE mapping the phone would stutter throughout the podcast if I closed waze it worked ok let me know if anyone else has these issues Jb hi fi swapped it out for a new one haven’t tested it yet Great review
Hi mate I haven't experienced these issues. I read your comment this morning and have spent a total of 4 hours driving today so a fair amount of experimenting. Hopefully your replacement is a good one. Thanks for watching my video. 😀😀😀
@@summerwind1974 I received a new one and put the Sim in the number 2 tray the 4g worked properly when I left the house when disconnected from wifi But I still get the issue with Android auto if I use Waze or Google maps I'm listening to podcasts it's stutters and it's like a loading issue but the podcast is downloaded to the phone it only happens when I hit the city area I live in the country and works fine but I drive long distance daily and when I reach the city it happens I have to close the map screen off and it stops
Hey great review. I hope you still love the phone 8 months in. Looking at getting this for the hubby. Do you know if it's definitely dual SIM? If so have you used it dual SIM and is it easy going between the 2? Thanks!
My primary complaint is the fascist permissions of use policy that the user has to sign/agree to in order to use the device. I have never experienced having to agree to such things on previous technologies. I only bought one of these because the stores no longer stock HTC phones. They have real Gorilla Glass®. I have only had the Oppo Reno Z for a week and the screen is already scratched. My HTC One X9 that I bought two and a half years ago has no screen damage.
@@cyril1077 Actually that does appear to be the case. My HTC, never had screen protection film and still not scratched after nearly 3 years daily use. I'm not extra careful with it.
excellent review mate. your review has just made my next purchase a little harder. i was looking at getting a samsung a50 and now not so sure. what would you recommend? have you used an a50 before and how good does it stack up to the reno z
Hi George, thanks for stopping by the channel. I would say it will come down to personal preference. The Oppo has better specs but specs aren't everything. They are very similar. Good luck with that one. 👍👍👍
I checked this phone out in JB Hifi today and was very impressed with the display and the camera seemed fast. I'm really tempted to buy one of these or a Xiaomi Mi 9T. Are you thinking about reviewing a Mi 9T?
Hi mate, I thought about the MI 9T but not there yet. If you want the Oppo it's up for grabs on Gumtree. Great price with a receipt. Thanks for watching bro.
I got the UK model - 4gb ram. Lovely phone but with MAJOR MAJOR flaws - colour OS is buggy/laggy. The reception on this phone is poor - poor 4g/lte speeds, and the phone constantly loses signal/reception. I was without network for 2 hours yesterday and 3 hours today. Ridiculous. 4g speeds were awful. I wouldnt expect this from a phone in this day and age - I'm in London, and I have NEVER experienced such poor signal/reception before. I will have to unfortunately return it for this reason ;( Everything else on the reno z is great - but it's such a shame
@@bobbyyy776 It's a shame that I had to return it. I generally really liked it. I wish manufacturers would have one model, as opposed to making regional variants. The UK model for some reason, only comes with 4gb Ram as opposed to 8. I'm pretty sure they must have altered/restricted some antenna bands/frequencies too for the UK model.
I just got mine yesterday, I actually bought it outright in-store at Optus for $360, so I saved myself $100. Coming from an Xperia XZ Premium, now the bezels on that phone look ugly. My first Oppo phone was the Oppo A73 last year shortly after I watched your unboxing and review videos and I'm super glad that they've stopped making everything like iOS and more like Android.
@@Jlhwu I live in Tassie so I bought it at my local Optus store in Launceston, but in theory it should be available in most of their other stores across the country.

Hi Georgina, thanks for watching. i did cover the zoom lens and nightime shots in my review. Zoom lens works ok if on a tripod, night time shots are good enough.
Really looking for a shootout between Reno 10x and Reno z. Camera comparison, quality of signal reception, quality of wifi sensitivity to be covered in detail
Hey Seedubya, thought I'd come back here to leave another comment. So the past 2 months have been quite the hassle with this phone... After a few weeks of purchasing the phone, it started having some issues with the volume buttons where they'd only respond half of the time, mostly with the volume down button. I took it back to the store I bought it from and, after another couple weeks of hassle, had it replaced. So all good now, right? Nope. Literally 2 and a half weeks after getting the replacement phone, it started having the exact same issue. This was just over the weekend to be exact. Clearly there's something up with the quality control with these phones and was wondering if you've experienced this issue with yours? I'm currently trying to get mine refunded as I'd rather not get a third replacement.
Hi Jack. That sucks man. I would be feeling exactly the same if it was me. I have had my $1500 note 9 repaired 3 times and it left me feeling pretty ripped off. I would say if getting a refund and buying a different phone makes you feel better then do it. I sold my Reno z fairly quickly so I could purchase another phone to review. Good luck with that man.
@@conorphoto I went into the store yesterday to first enquire about the refund but couldn't get it done straight away, which is a pain. My plan was to get a refund and go buy another phone right afterwards. Even though I didn't get that refund, I did still buy another phone. Besides the slightly smaller battery, it's been performing really well and works perfectly. I liked the Reno Z, I really did. It's a nice phone and all, but having 2 of them go through the exact same issue at around the same age has me concerned about quality control.
This is the most useful review vid for the Reno Z yet. I do lots of phone calls, what's the call quality like - is it clear for the other side, is the Reno Z loud enough when you hold it next to your head (not using speaker, just normal mode)? Guessing that dolby atmos probably doesn't mean anything for voice calls right.
Just wondering what the headphone audio quality is like on this phone? I've had the vivo y17 with a MediaTek P35 and audio sounds amazing on that. Trying to find out how it compares.
Great review. Read the comments and people saying it's pretty much like an iphone xr. Does this mean you have to type like an iPhone or does it have swipe type like my S7?
Hi mate. Just watching this video from Italy. First of all I want to send you hugs, because of the disaster ia happening in you wonderful country 😔 really sad! Thank you for the review. I've got honor 9 Lite, but it's almost die. So I'm looking for a new smartphone. And I'm interested in this one. Do you thin it's good for camera and do you think it's good for updates from Android? Has it private or secondary space? Thank mate! Hugs from Italy
Hi Massy, thanks so much for your kind words. The camera has a tonne of features, you wont be disappointed here but the storage is 128g non expandable. but with 128g and the cloud you should be ok. Thanks again for your kind words while Australia burns.
The one complaint is can't turn it off or restart the pone, also my volume is starting to have to be tune up more the the first 2wks of have this phone when i watch my shows one more thing its like my speak type doesn't always type what im saying i do speak slower than normal. But i do love it i paid 479 when it first came out at good guys.
$439 at JBs.. the thing I hate about reviews on miss tier phones is the thing about build quality and stuff like that. It's a cheaper phone that works very well. I also be a real camera for photos. good no bullshit review.. I may subscribe.. Z is pronounced as zed.. not zee. I hate Americanisms

Hi man, sorry for my late reply. Its a good option for sure. Oppo are killin it in the smart phone world. Im currently using the Reno 5G as my daily phone.
I have a question when I turn off my phone and want to use my finger to unlock it, why does it take 2 attempts to unlock it with your finger? Is there a way to disable it?
@@conorphoto I actually got used to it after a while. I have one more question 😆 the phone has 8GB of ram but it doesn't feel like it do you know anyway to make it faster? And could you make a video about it too?
@@axroo5068 Hi mate, I don't have the device any longer. You can do a couple of things to make it feel faster. 1 install a custom launcher- I use action launcher or nova launcher. The 2nd thing you can do is go to settings - system - developer options then scroll to window animation scale turn it to .5 x then transition animation scale and change it to .5 x then do the same to animator duration scale. This will make it feel a bit snappier. 👍👍👍
Hi mate, great review from a local. Can i ask your opinion? I have a Samsung galaxy S8 and I recently changed to a galaxy A70 but found there were a lot of issues with their camera quality, multi-touch issues and ghost touching. I since returned it and i'm looking at something else. I do play a fair bit of PUBG. What is my best value for money buy? Would you recommend this over a pocophone F1 or Pixel3a XL?
Hi mate I dont have a pixel 3a, however that would be my suggestion. Camera, security updates, pure android. I think it's a safe option. The OPPO Reno Z is a good choice but not quite pixel level. But it's 200 bucks cheaper so tough choice.
Hey great review, was tossing up between this and the Moto G7, pretty much used to the stock android experience, not sure about that apple look.. Do you know if there will be rom updates for this phone..cheers
Hi Tamina, depends on what software version you have. Go to settings and search for screen recorder. If your phone has it it will show up. Thanks for watching.

Great news Cleo. Enjoy the device. 😀😀😀
Awesome review keep it up as always
Thanks matey, I appreciate the encouragement. 👍👍👍👍
ThNks awesome video surprised not many people have made a review on this phone
Thanks for watching my video I really appreciate it.
I am really impressed with this device.
I just want to make sure.. does this one have sd card slot?
@@kenzoquiambao hi Kenzo, the one I purchased does not have an SD card slot. Thanks for watching my video 👍👍👍
@@conorphoto so there's a version that has an sd card slot? I bought mine and it also doesn't have one. Btw, thanks for replying
Hi Mate, thanks for letting us know, i sold the A73 a while back so want certain. Thank you for sharing this info with us.
Excellent review! I've been toying with getting this in the UK over the Samsung A50, definitely my next phone!
Thanks for the positive comment Lee. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video. 😀
Bob, I really appreciate the feedback. It's the reason I do these vids. 👍👍👍
I got a used Reno Z at $280 AUD
fantastic phone for how much these sell for new now
for those that are " gaming " on their phones it's quite good with the 8 GB ram
great display too
there's plenty of other cheaper phones with 4GB ram and reasonable amount of memory for the lower budgets
the Reno Z I think is the best value for the money
honestly I can't believe these sell at $399 AUD new now
I sold my OPPO Reno and regretted it shortly after. I then got the Reno Z instead and have to say, I even like this better, sturdier, even better battery life and better sound thanks to stereo speakers. At 350 Euro this is a steal, although it just comes with 4 GB RAM here in Europe.
Hi Funmap thanks for watching the video. It's the brand to watch I think. 👍👍
@@conorphoto I have been using OPPO handsets for many years now, and I agree they have come a very long way especially in terms of software and also things like NFC ☺️
Just picked mine up today at Officeworks for $449

I just turned data saver off in Instagram on my galaxy note 9 and it was terrible.
How do you turn off data saver?
@@curlylokx7044 ok go to your profile then at the top right of your screen there is 3 lines, tap on the 3 lines then you will see settings at the bottom of your screen, tap settings. Then choose "account " from the list. Then choose "cellular data use" then toggle off "data saver". Hope this works for you 👍👍👍
I picked this phone yesterday. Happy with it but was surprised it doesn't have a native email client. No problem since you can download one.
Thanks for your review, I just bought one today and I'm very impressed, it's a big step up from my 2.5 year old LG G6, only NZ$399

@@abimeteoro There is one the camera has a different. Other then that I didn't find anything different with it. My Huawei mate 20 Pro died so I switch to the oppo reno z

I am having exactly the same problem!!!
@@lazyburro oh no I'm sorry to hear that. I'll try switching the SIM and see how that goes 👍

These have come down in price nicely as well. Not quite ready to update but if I did it would be this phone.
I know I’m a bit late to comment and I’m sorry to ask a question now. But what are your thoughts on the keyboard. Is it easy to type?

I am thinking of buying a oppo Reno z but dose it have Face ID/UNLOCK
Yep it does, its fast as well.
And arse id unlock 🤣
My primary complaint is the fascist permissions of use policy that the user has to sign/agree to in order to use the device. I have never experienced having to agree to such things on previous technologies.
I only bought one of these because the stores no longer stock HTC phones. They have real Gorilla Glass®. I have only had the Oppo Reno Z for a week and the screen is already scratched. My HTC One X9 that I bought two and a half years ago has no screen damage.
you sure it's not the screen protection which is scratched ? when I bought mine yesterday a screen protection was already on it
and I agree with the permission thing but I think it will be normalized in a fzw month I already have that kind of permissions on my computer
I'd probably go a Oppo or Mi 9T. I'm really impressed with the Oppo though and I'm considering buying one too
I checked this phone out in JB Hifi today and was very impressed with the display and the camera seemed fast.
I will have to unfortunately return it for this reason ;(
Everything else on the reno z is great - but it's such a shame
Good feedback. Thanks Zephr 👍
Australian model has no such issues I think it's certified to be used here as sold in shops here
@@bobbyyy776 It's a shame that I had to return it. I generally really liked it. I wish manufacturers would have one model, as opposed to making regional variants. The UK model for some reason, only comes with 4gb Ram as opposed to 8. I'm pretty sure they must have altered/restricted some antenna bands/frequencies too for the UK model.
@@zephreissa5912 that's sucks
I just got mine yesterday, I actually bought it outright in-store at Optus for $360, so I saved myself $100. Coming from an Xperia XZ Premium, now the bezels on that phone look ugly. My first Oppo phone was the Oppo A73 last year shortly after I watched your unboxing and review videos and I'm super glad that they've stopped making everything like iOS and more like Android.

Can this Smart Phone use an external microphone from its head phone jack or else where?
Hi SaVant, i havent had it for a while but from memory yes it does have a headphone port. This would be the only place you could add a mic.
It's the perfect phone if you don't like hardcore games .

just got it today in Melbourne for 379$ Great phone
Awesome man. Enjoy, and That's a great price. 😀🥳🥳🥳
Got it last month and LOVING it. It's better than any phone I got. Better than iPhone, Galaxy and Huawei

Thinking I might pull the trigger on this phone, but then I've also seen the realme XT - have you had a play with the XT at all?
Hi David, I haven't reviewed the realme yet. It looks pretty good. I can definitely recommend the OPPO though. It's pretty neat.
I have a question when I turn off my phone and want to use my finger to unlock it, why does it take 2 attempts to unlock it with your finger? Is there a way to disable it?
Hi Rebel, not sure mate i dont have my unit anymore. For me once i was used to it it was really quick. Is it in the settings somewhere?
