I love my Alma Mater - Notre Dame. I had dreamed of going there in early childhood and applied in HS. I graduated in 1991. I am one of the rare ND Alumni to have stormed the field with the student band when ND won its last championship in January of 1989. I posted earlier about skepticism for another ND championship this year. Honestly, when we won in 1988-1989, there was no doubt at all. There was no lame early season defeat to a team like NIU. I was there at ND when Michigan missed a field goal with time running out to lose 19-17. When West Virginia lost to ND, they said it sometimes felt like there were 16 ND players on the field because they were that much better. By contrast, this season I feel like they could make it to the semi-finals. But the championship is a bit of a stretch - the odds are low. But in the next 2-3 years I feel we could win it all again. To me, this 2024 season has just been a strong buildup year like 1987-1988 when we had mostly good wins but some hard losses.
Late to the show, but enjoyed it all the more because I know I have a couple more before I am caught up! Great show, and Pete is one of the greatest- you guys together was top notch! Thanks for it! Go Irish!
Every team has injuries, so don't misunderstand ... this is just my musings: IF ND still had Morrison, Traore, and Botelho healthy, I'd definitely feel like they were on par with any team in the playoff. My hope is that Moore continues to play at a high level, that Gray's struggles against USC were a one-off, and that Bryant can take a real leap forward in terms of being an edge pass-rusher ... or, that KVA surprisingly returns and helps fill that pass-rush void. That is my biggest concern on D for ND: the pass rush. They have a good interior presence that can generate a pass rush from the DTs that many teams can't, but that doesn't completely replace the edge rushers. It's tragic to me that Morrison and Traore were lost. If ND doesn't win it all ... I'll likely always think "what could have been."
I have more confidence with this Notre Dame team than the 2012 team, to go all the way and win the National Championship! The only thing that worries me is the kicking game, if it comes down to a field goal. GO IRISH☘️

Friday mail bag do you think this is the top of a cycle for ND football? I don't believe so due to the number of returning players in the development of a homegrown quarterback. Mike Denbrock will be in year 2 and I expect improvements on the offensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, the defense will have some big holes to fill and we'll have to see how they do in the portal. Go Irish!
Getting a pass rush is key if they can’t get to the QB they’ll get picked apart just like in the SC game. They also need to be able to throw it consistently without the turnovers. If they figure those two things out they’ll be hard to beat.
Good to see Pete covering Notre Dame football. I remember him racking up tennis grand slams and now to see him become an analyst of Irish football should warm our hearts. Roll Irish 2024 National Champions 🏆 AGAIN!!

We better be prepared for teams stacking the box more then what teams have been doing against us I think teams should play there safeties up with the linebackers forcing us to pass
No doubt. Every team facing ND in the playoff will try to take the run game away and force ND to beat them with the pass. How well Leonard passes, and how well Denbrock schemes, might be determinative in all of ND's playoff games (assuming they get more than one). I was encouraged as the season went on by Leonard's passing, and very encouraged by the developing RPO game. Don't remember much of that early, but it seemed to be more of a staple as the season wore on. With an athlete like Leonard at QB, the RPO can be a real weapon.
Expected mid high 20s maybe 20 mph wind snow flurries. Leonard is from Alabama. Guarantee IU has safeties up, but if the wind is a factor then Rourke will be affected too. I'm expecting a lower scoring game. IU can be pretty methodical running it too
Indiana has the number 1 rushing defense in the country allowing 70.8 yds per game. Against B1G teams only (Power Four) it balloons all the way up to 72 yards per game. The most they allowed in any game was 116. Over their last four games (Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue) the Hoosiers allowed a total of 161 yards on the ground, 40.25 yards per game. The last four power 4 opponents the Irish have faced finished the season ranked as follows against the run. Ga Tech 30th, USC 54th, Virginia, 60th, Fla State 109th. Not exactly the Steel Curtain. Texas A&M finished ranked 48th, Louisville 43rd, and Stanford 39th, and Purdue 120th. Notre Dame will not be running the ball all over the yard in this game. This is a bad matchup for the Irish.
Love my Irish but with an inconsistent passing game and their 1st round draft pick corner done for the year, I cant see them beating Oregon, OSU or Texas. They may get by Georgia because of the injury to Carson Beck.
Hey, you take on those challenges as you go. I agree that the loss of Morrison (and the loss of Botelho and Traore) are huge losses for ND. I will say that, surprisingly, Leonard Moore has filled in without really missing a beat. He's been amazing. Assuming Gray bounces back from a tough game against USC, I think they are okay at CB -- though depth is a real concern. With BMo out and Mickey having left the team ... I can't feel great about any CB coming in if Moore or Gray go down or need a break. I like ND over Indiana, though I respect Indiana more than some ND fans do. I think they have a good coach and play good ball. It'll be a fight on 12/20. If ND gets past Indiana, I actually feel pretty good about a game against UGA. Obviously, UGA has an embarrassment of riches in terms of talent. But they haven't been the juggernaut we've come to expect in recent years. And losing their starting QB makes them more vulnerable. Honestly, if forced to make a prediction about ND v Georgia, I'd honestly give Georgia the edge. But I definitely think ND could take them down. Maybe it is a "over 10 games, Georgia wins 6 and ND wins 4" scenario. If ND gets there, hopefully it is one of the 4 for ND. Should be exciting regardless.
First, it's only about Indiana. One game at a time. In the same spirit, ND would only have to play either OSU, Oregon or Texas. Just one of them. On any given day ND can beat anyone this year.
re ND schedule I believe Miami was on our schedule and they cancelled and we substituted Army. Who expected FSU would go from just missing the CFP in 2023 to this years disaster. So ND had planned a very tough schedule when arranged.
Doesn't hold water though when I bring it up for Indiana. Mich Washington played for the Natty last year. Nebraska 5-1 and Maryland 3-1 coming into Indiana game. UCLA Sparty usually good for 7-8 wins. Everybody fell off so what can you do?
The Most Dynamic Player in ND History is Obviously "The Rocket", Then IMHO Jeff Samardzija is #2. The Sharks catch radius was absolutely ridiculous, his speed was elite for his size and he had knack for getting the TD and making that big play. Then TBH Jeremyah Love, he is such a Dynamic (it's really hard to call a lot of our great RBs that word), but anytime he touches the ball he has a chance to House it and that's why I say as far as Dynamos he is Top 3. Also TBH Jadarian Price is just as electric, he is Super Shifty and has Excellent Top End speed. The only real difference between the 2 is Love has Elite Top End Speed and Acceleration. But Price could and would start for any other Power 4 School IMHO. If our Offense gives a chance to keep us in the game, Love gives us the chance to win it. These are just my opinions, but there is a reason why all these other schools were salivating over Love and literally throwing him a bag as a recruit. He is a rare breed that possesses Elite Speed, Elite Agility and Elite Abilities, not to mention the Dude is son humble and laid back.
