Cardboard Tube Houses

I love a challenge . . . and these little houses are a great way of experimenting with what I call ‘pure making’ . . . can you create a house using every part of the tube, leaving no waste? I’ve made 6 different versions here, all made intuitively, without designing them first or using photo reference, just trying different ideas, experimenting, and basically enjoying the process. All you need is a cardboard tube, a pencil, a pair of scissors, some PVA glue, and a little bit of tape to hold things together. I’ve also used some scrap corrugated card to add a bit of texture in some places. You could obviously paint these, or adapt the designs to create different styles of architecture. Maybe you could make examples from different cultures or periods in history.
