It's 2023! I heard this for the first time on a dub compilation. I didn't know who it was. All I knew is that this was the sound, the rhythm, the beat, the groove, the vibe, message that I been craving. 1980 was the eve a new era. Social upheaval, the powers that be working behind the scenes to create discord. The Reagan era about to unleash a war on drugs. By '85 Crack was sold in open air markets on the streets of every city in the America's.
The music, on the island an and the mainland was no longer about love and revolution. It was about gangsta worship, violence misogyny and money and bling. Not wealth, just conspicuous consumption.
All of the sudden it was easier to find Crack and an uzi than a bag of weed.
The music industry was promoting gangsta rap and reggae that glorified and perpetuated discord. The Blaxploitation wave went from Superfly to more dangerous programming of a new wave of exploitation and oppression.
This song by Mickey Dread was a powerful force. The kind that the powers that be had to derail by any means necessary.
I'm old school. But when I heard this for the first time in 2023 it blew me away! This was powerful and resonates even more almost 50 years later.

Micky dread is definitely, with Prince Far I, one of my favorite DJs. This is certainly due to the excellent accompaniment of Roots radics and their powerful music. So much time has passed, and it's still good. Thank you for sharing this, I have it on an original k7 that I can not use, for lack of drive!

Earl Sixteen deserves a mention for the vocal as well. One of the first vinyls I ever bought. Still sounds fresh in 2021.
