hi Dustin, I have been watching your reviews and I really appreciate your comments and insights about the zeiss lenses. I have this lens with me like a baby lens, on canon 5D m2. The only concern is the lens front cap. Do you have any idea for a better replacement? Regards

The ordering backlog was so severe on the Sigma Art that I had canceled my order and had an outstanding offer to buy this lens instead. The next day I got word that the Sigma was in stock, in limited quantity, at one store in NY and they overnighted the lens to me. So, purchasing the Zeiss never materialized, perhaps down the road. 50mm is my favorite focal length and I have shot of a lot of brands (Mamiya, Nikon, Canon, Leica, Voigtlander, etc..) But the Sigma outshines them all by a fair margin. I fined tuned my the second it arrived. Focusing has been spot on and consistent ever since. Still, the Zeiss 135mm APO may very well end up in my bag soon. cheers.
Thanks for the great video. This Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/50mm is more unique than the Zeiss Planar T* 1,4/50mm. May I ask which would you recommend more between the two?
Hi! I have just receive this lens. Like a Makro Planar 100/2 which I have, this lens is incredible too. But I have noticed that turning the focus ring is a little harder than in the 100mm version. Rotating the ring becomes a little harder by entering the macro area (at approximately 180 to 300 degrees rotation). Is your experience the same? My lens is almost new and unused, but I’m a little worried. Thank you!
How does it compare to the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 for street photography? Is it easy to focus? People mention that the f/2.0 is more difficult to focus for object distance 1-5m.
+Dustin Abbott What worry is the focus throw for object distance 1-5m is too short, which I cannot have a precise focus. Do you think I have to worry about that?

What's your budget? The Makro has a much better build and the 1:2 magnification. The Rokinon has nice optics but is more of a budget lens by comparison. Both will produce nice results, but they are different

I have some classic AF-D and Ai-S Nikkor 50mm lenses that I enjoy using for their color rendition but I was mainly looking into the Rokinon for the way it renders the "smooth background" look at 1.4. I've never held a rokinon in my hands and the internet warns us of sample variations. Is the build quality this much bad?
Yannick Khong No, the build quality is actually just fine. Few lenses are built as nicely as Zeiss lenses, but the build on the Rokinon wouldn't be much different than most new Nikon and Canon lenses.

i've had many lenses but this one is still in my mind...better than any other 50mm, 85mm or 35mm i have tried.

I have no immediate plans to review that lens as it isn't new anymore and is optically pretty much the same as the Classic Distagon 21mm

I would go for the MP lens, myself, particularly if you don't have another macro lens. It's just more versatile.

I did find the focus a little stiff. Zeiss says that this was by design to help hold focus positions, but the newer Milvus version is smoother.

Leo Sze It has a REALLY long focus throw. It produces awesome images, but you need some time to get things focused.

It has enough focus throw for accurate focus at 1-5 meters. That isn't an issue.Leo Sze

It's a nice video lens. Just know that if you do an extreme macro to infinity focus throw it may take a while.
