    Also, with taking line off, save old spools and attach them to a dowel rod with electric tape buildup. Then use the spool to pull off the line. Goes much faster, and it's easier to cut the line. (You are cutting the line right?)
    or to reuse, go spool to spool and reverse the line so you can use it completely.

  • @rider660r
    @rider660r 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    An empty soda/water bottle and a screw through the cap is faster than that steel rod...an you don't have to fight to remove it....and it's not as much of a waste when you just toss the whole thing out...
    Skip the tape BS,buy some Liquid Tape from Harbour Freight or some hardware store and "paint" the center of the spool.It's simple on a caster/conventional reel...all you do is crank the handle to spin the spool and touch the brush against the spool..
    It never needs replaced,never gets gooey from heat,and will never slip..moisture also doesn't get under it..
    Quicker and simpler way to remove a backlash ( and your method does not always work...maybe 70% of the time) is pull lightly till the main line creates a U or V (don't kink mono/fluro),grab that U or V and pull it out a couple inches then pull the main again.Works on both braid and mono/fluro...all I use is braid anymore and after 30+ years using casters I don't get backlashes but once a blue moon...even on my 151's casting 1/32 add 1/16oz jigs/baits.
    In 40+ yrs never needed safety pins to organize my hooks...LOL
    You don't need to carry 50 of ea size with you....as rocky as it is here I only pack maybe 10 of ea at any time.Rest are stored in the vehicle or fishing room/shop.
    Less you pack the less your stuff weighs if you need to hike a ways to your fishing spot...even from parking area to dock and boat..
    And when you need to hump 5-6 rods (or more depending),baits,jigs/lures,tackle bag,seat,drinks,maybe a snack,light?,rod holders 1/2 to 1 mile....you'll want as little as you can get by with and that little bit can add up to what seems like a lot 1 mile later...lol

    Those are awesome! For #7 I would be concerned with moisture building up on the spool and not being able to evaporate. On that particular reel that is what that pin on the spool is for. But many reels do not have that pin.

    • @FishingAdventuresHB
      @FishingAdventuresHB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that’s a valid point especially if you had braid on the spool as water could seep all the way through. But with mono it might not. I will run it like that for the season and next season when I re spool I’ll check if it effected it at all.

    Just hook the hook to the bar on the baitcaster, or the leg of the guide.

    • @rider660r
      @rider660r 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been hooking it on the levelwind bar of my casters for 30 some years
      Through the guide or the foot on the spinners that doesn't have a hook loop and it's never hurt a guide.
      But I also don't crank it down till the rod bends like a lot of dolts think they have to...lol
      I have had more damage done to my rods,guides,and reels laying them on the ground,bed of a pickup,in a pile on a boat,or against a stone/concrete wall and haven't done it in 20+ yrs.

    2:30 I think you tie to the pin

    • @FishingAdventuresHB
      @FishingAdventuresHB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope at 2:26 you can see where the knot is tied to the side of the spool and not tied to that pin. Try it for yourself and you’ll see the difference that little bit of insulation tape makes to create grip on the spool and prevent the braid from slipping.

    • @FishingAdventuresHB
      @FishingAdventuresHB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately this real I used had that pin so maybe wasn’t the best for the demonstration but most reels don’t have it. I didn’t tie to the pin as I had insulation tape wrapped over it and tied a Uni knot to the left of the spool. Only a few winds and it wasn’t slipping anymore.

    • @peggismith5089
      @peggismith5089 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you tie to the pin, there won't be any slipping of the line. Also, when tie to the pin make a small loop in the line that will slip off the pin in case a big fish spools your reel. that way you won't loose the entire rod and reel, just the line. that is way the companies put that pin in the spool. • @rider660r
      @rider660r 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So is that pin or some have holes through the spool....
      "Painting" the center of the spool with Liquid Tape is the 100% best way.
      All my reels,spinner and caster/conv reels have liquid tape on them.
      Never needs replaced,never slips,never gets gooey,and doesn't hold moisture under it.

    • @danratsnapnames

    10: you just need a 1" strip. No need to insulate the whole roll
    #9 it's tapered... might slide up, but still have exposed hook(s)
    #8 I cut off about 20 ft of line then tie it to a smaller reel and respool it because the line inside is still new.
    #7 that little (BUILT IN) pin stops the line from slipping.
    #6... Seriously? Heatshrink?
    #5 Good idea but the first part was just stupid.. NO ONE WOULD EVER DO THAT!
    #4: I put a tiny square of napkin & a drop of cooking oil in each compartment (Anise oil is better)
    #3 Finally a good one. Only necessary for smaller hooks. I use a large snap swivel.
    #2 Stupid demo... You're supposed to tighten the drag down, then thumb the reel (THANKS TO BILL DANCE FOR THAT ONE 40+ YEARS AGO!)
    #1 Stupid (period)
