Hello Big D. I always follow your videos here in Brazil. I remember Alma Gates used Precision Power in his Ford Bronco against Mark Fukuda and won a championship. In my cars I use old Rockford Fosgate and V12 Alpine. Big hug and good work !!
I read your review on Amazon for this amp, You are absolutly correct, but all OEM seemed to have gone down hill. There were times when Phoenix Gold, Soundstream, PPI were the shit. now its just sad.. But on your review, you said it was for ESL market, that had me cracking up. These Car Audio market seems to have gone down hill. BTW, i heard PPI 30has a car running a 40VDC electrical system.. That how they get those crazy rating.
Hello, Big D! Could you please test the JBL 14001? If you don't find it, you could also look for the 7001 or 24001. They are all from the same amp series. These ones seem to be worth your dyno time.
I have a Fosgate power 1000a2 from the 90s. Although it has the bass boost knob, I don't think it is a class d. Does that mean it wasn't really designed for bass? It's a 250x2 and the paperwork that came with it was somewhere at 1350 or 1650 ( unsure) bridged. The only other thing that I can remember about it is 24db Butterworth. ...?? Edit....never did figure out what the phase adjust was for. It didn't seem to change the sound much at all.

In the bicycling world, Cannondale got bought up by a global conglomerate and there was worry the brand would go to Walmart like Mongoose. But they're still a "bike shop" brand. I wish this would have happened with PPI and Soundstream...

Hey Big D, I have 3 ol' skool Orion amps, XTR 250, XTR 450 and 225 HCCA, all 3 are done in the chrome finish. I know, not that unusual...except that they all feature 'Specially Designed For Robby Brand' engraving, directly below the brand name and amp model on the central cover plate. Just wondering if you've come across these particular amps before as I can't find anything online about them. Keep up the killer content! Cheers Rob

I bought an orion hcca 15 with dual 2 ohm voice coils and a kinetik hc 2400 battery and a SounDigital 8000 1d evo. The Owner of the orion sold it because the amp was not good enough for the orion. But the Problem is when I listen to music I start smelling Voice coils after a few minutes and I'm scared that the sub will blow. Is the smell maybe of dust in the sub? Because there is very much dust in the box?
If you are wired down to 1 ohm with that 8k, that HCCA is doomed to fail. I like Orion and all but whoever told you an SD Evo 8k isn't good enough for an HCCA is clueless.

It may be glue curing. Check the sub itself to see if it's hot. If you have a clipped signal, it will run hot too. Full volume isn't always the same as maxed gains.

I'll survive. It'll still be an upgrade, power-wise.
Thanks for another great video - really appreciate the no BS attitude 👍🏻
Crazy part is that at the height of the audio spl competition era (1996 - 2001) this would have been one of the baddest amps on the market! We are spoiled now with class D. Class AB FTW!!
Failed like a Boss lmao!
Anytime Big D says he is "going to talk you through it"... it is not going to be good.
See what he did there too lol
Yes sir. I laughed when I hear Failed Like a Boss! That’s the low standard now.
Had a 1997 PPI Power Class 450 I bought used for a hundo back in 2002. It was THE BEST sounding amp I've owned (and I've owned alot of amps). Awesome crossovers, descent power and in mint condition. Kinda wish I'd have kept it.
I know I’m late to see this but it did hurt. PPI was a dream for me as a kid , did manage to get 2 10’s. But never the amp, and to see this was upsetting 😢. But thanks for doing the Dyno brother. 👍
You’re a car audio hero. Thanks for doing all these! Saves us a lot of aggravation!
👌😬👍
Same here BigD, my first amp ever was a PPI and the nostalgia is strong with the brand but it breaks my heart to see the name and reputation whored out for a pennies.
Couldn’t even finish the whole video
I just had an epiphany remembering back in the days when I try to start flying car audio and it was really expensive they get anything with power. Although we know the ripping off the consumer I think it gives these kids with low budgets something to brag about so they don't feel inadequate about their car audio😒. The manufacturers will continue to put these out as long as there's dummies willing to buy them, no pun intended 😂👍 I'm just surprised it took me this long to figure that out Thanks Big D 😊👋
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hell, that would be a perfect amp for my JL 12w3 4 Ohm
Hey. I'm new here. Just getting back into car audio after a 20 year break. I'm gonna look for some vids on that lady's artwork line of amps. That's just so neat to me.
Also, I wonder how much money you've saved the general public by making these videos, letting people know what to avoid and what are the hidden gems. Surely its in the hundreds of thousands of dollars not wasted on purchases with which people wouldn't be happy. What a great, tangible thing to do for the world.
Yup. Back in the day I had a PPI driving MTX Thunder 12” and a Rockford Fosgate Punch 150 driving a 15”
My math say 1200 watts before it 🔥
This channel is a treasure
Yeah I like watching big d on the TV when I'm relaxing winding down
Big D your videos are the reason I bought two Skar amplifiers.
Derek , remember this is the disposable era, don’t spect Much, not even from women but yes, mfrs are lien to consumers, thanks for the great work you and hifi Vega are doing for us.
It’s sad 😢
r u mgtow?
Do you have any plans on testing PPI's new Power Class (PC) line? Mostly, the PC1000.5D? Are you willing to test amps that viewers are willing to send in?
Where has Sam been? Haven't seen him post anything for a while. If you know, I'd like to know he's doin ok D.
He’s been busy. He’ll be back soon
Well that was heartbreaking. Watched the vid in my garage with two original Art series amps sitting under my tv. An A300 an an A404.
Such a fall from grace
I had an Art Series A600.2 and a the 5 channel from the PCX series. Absolutely loved them.
PPI quality less than Rockville? What??Love this channel though, BigD is the G.O.A.T. Keep it up!
BDOAT 👈😝
What up big D. Thanks for the truth 👍
Keepin it real 👌
Thanks for these videos man. Really let's the consumer know whether they are getting shit or not!
This one shocked me. I had no idea it would do that much power at 1 ohm and that efficiency 😳
700th automatic like from this guy right here! 😎👊
I bought the SoundStream TN1.1200D for $100 on Amazon. It's puts out 1280 watts @ 1ohm on the bench test.
I Still have my Orion Digital Reference 250SX. I was going sell it and buy something more modern, but after watching this now I think I’m going to keep it.
Is this a true PPI or a unauthorized copy? I have a PPI from the late 80s and a Sedona from the early 90's. Both still sound great.
I would like you to see if you could scare up a ppi Sedona amp or a ancient crutchfield for that matter. That would be a cool old school test.
Yeah had a Crutchfield PPI amp but I sold it years ago
@@wal at one point I had 3 4x50 and a 2x75 in my 1984 trans am. I loved those things. One 4x50 was bridged to run 2 bazooka 10"s. I lived those amps. I wish they still made quality a/b amps at today's prices.
You grew up! Your voice changed! I have two PPI:s ; pc225 and pc250 from the 90's!
That's why I have one of the old School amp ppi it works flawless
In the bicycling world, Cannondale got bought up by a global conglomerate and there was worry the brand would go to Walmart like Mongoose. But they're still a "bike shop" brand. I wish this would have happened with PPI and Soundstream...
spl line is supposed to be exclusive to the wholesale house distributor so dealers dont have to compete with internet price same with orion ztreet doesnt seem to have worked out in either case.
😳
Way back I had a 2350 that was rebuilt by ppi and recertified. It failed again so I sent back in, after a ling awaited wait, PPI offered me 2- DCX 1500.1 amps instead of my original. I accepted but ended up selling them brand new and bought some Zapcos. Sad to see how far they have fallen.
Sucks man
These amps make me love Rockford Fosgate amplifier tests that much more 💪
Nice review Big D. That's a nice $50 amp tho. Bahaha not nice for $199. I got my orion xtr 2500 for $250 on sale so yeah I'm good Bahaha
I still have a old school ppi chrome pc2600. Want to get it tested to see if still runs right.
I have two of those ‘art work’ amps in my garage that came in an old truck I bought that was built in the early 2000s
Cheers Rob
My Guess gave PP to much credit I spose...sahhhlap! But as usual got more than my $1 worth!! Thanks D!
I have 3 art series. Ever since Epsilon bought the name, they ain't been the same. One of the black ice did decent, and the ion use to do rated though I believe.
Sad...
Man I have a minty old school Memphis AR-HC50 you should feature. You've only done one other Memphis:( And this one is older. I believe it was some of their first stuff after changing from Fultron to memphis. Its a "cheater" too:) I would fully accept any responsibility. These things are truly bullet proof. I used to road trip the one I had back in the day for hours on end (with the gain all the way up lol) @1ohm mono in the texas heat and it never shut off a single time.
I’ve tested that amp before and have the Dyno sheet somewhere.
@@wal Ahh nice! Im sure it probably does around 600w but it would be cool to see it featured. Alot of people have never seen/heard of one. I happen to look and there is Aria branded one on ebay wich I had never heard of too.
It would be really interesting to see a couple strapped together
Try the black ice 5k next please 🧐.
Ive actually run a couple of them. Not doing 5k for sure but gotta be close to or doing the 1700 rating.
Curious.
To add... The guts of the black ice are much more substantial.
Exactly what I was thinking!! Thank God there's somebody else out there with a brain. For the exception of myself you were the first one that made that comment. The ones on the website certainly do look different don't they. My money is on the fact that this is some sort of a Chinese knockoff perhaps even a counterfeit that's what the Chinese do.😷
Well a few things. 1 Hugely disappointing, especially with the PPI name, which I, as an old school car car audio person have always associated with very good quality. 2 if I could have gotten 1000 watts for $200 in 1998 I would have been the happiest person in the world. As always great video big D
Both valid points!
The orion 5k i use has a 500amp internal fuse so I'm assuming this would need the same
Oh no... PPi going down the tubes...
Laughing at going...😝
Williston Audio Labs when I was 16 first driving PPI was the thing of dreams!!!
So sad, PPI was one of the best back in the day. If you get a chance, test an old crutchfield amp... either the original blue ones or the latter gray ones. PPI was the build house for these, but they were never really taken seriously. I'm willing to bet theyre well made.
I still have 2 blue Crutchfields, a 4X50, 2X75 and a gray 2x30. Very well made amplifiers...
I still remember the Car Audio magazine with the woman that had the 46 12" p
precision Power subwoofers and Precision Power 2350's on each pair
Alma Gates
@@wal yeah that was a RUDE Bronco she had.
Good morning... I love watching your videos.... I have an old Alpine mrd 1000 I want to get fixed, do you have any idea where I can send it to to have it repaired
What subwoofer do you think is the best DD Audio. 9900 15” are the sundown zv5 15” and the amplifier m5 DD audio or the sundown salt 8 plus what do you think about putting 4- 15” DD Audio 9900 on that salt 8 amp
i wished you could find those small 500.1 BLADE amp and test it
I have their 1/2 din parametric equalizer with the voltmeter readout. Hasn't been bad.
20 PPI executives aren't happy with you, Big D. They might have to settle for Ferraris now instead of Lamborghinis.
While I have a 12 year old Honda. They are still winning
Looks identical to my old 2kw Rockville amp, to be fair ive been running it for prob 5 years and no issues
The PPI and right here seem to be pushing all those savard subwoofers pretty well
This one flat pissed me off...
PPI is joke now???
When started the video and showed the Art. I was drooling. By the end I was 😞
I bought an orion hcca 15 with dual 2 ohm voice coils and a kinetik hc 2400 battery and a SounDigital 8000 1d evo.
@@j.savage1228 The guy who sold me the Orion hcca didn't sell me the amp.
I bought the amp in car audio store the guy with the orion had a 1500 Watt rms amp I think but I'm not sure.
@@j.savage1228 And I'm only on 20% Volume and I start smelling the coils.
It may be glue curing. Check the sub itself to see if it's hot. If you have a clipped signal, it will run hot too. Full volume isn't always the same as maxed gains.
@@piscikeeper Gains are at 1/3 the sub itself is not hot.
I touched the dustcap and It was maybe a bit warmer but not hot.
I had 1100 w PPI back in '99 I believe that was right before they sold off the company it was a good amp
That’s why I went with rockford Fosgate 2500-bdcp and a rockford Fosgate 600-4. Cost me a arm and a leg but I know it’s quality. 👍
This should be against the law, thanks for what you do big d
What headunit are you using for the dyno tests? have you tried different headunits side by side with the same amp to see if measured watts change?
